at 4.41 to the right looking at the video a large section collapsed last summer, it must have been 25 meters long by 4 meters wide, the surface had fallen about 5ft, there was another hole behind you about 3 - 400 meters away.
The fella in the denim shirt used to appear with Fred too, walked around that area quite a lot inspecting the beck with an aspiration to kayak down it soon
We're abouts on winter hill is this? Also Dave I've been trying to get hold of you for months. I'm very interested in the mines of winter hill area we go every Sunday 3 of us trying to uncover something and the only thing we have come close to is a 15m belly pit mine which we went down but was closed off. Trying our hardest though :(
suddy07 Only just seen ur message .... sorry! You can always contact me at ....... dave@daveweb.co.uk ...... but I'm well out of date nowadays with what's going on around Winter Hill. I assume you've read my book "Winter Hill Scrapbook"!
Hi Suddy, As a kid c55 years ago, myself and some mates would go the baths in Horwich on the bus but spend the return fare on sweets. We would play in the old quarry off Georges lane. On Wallsuches road there is a small row of cottages. On the right just after the cottages there is an entrance to the mines, or was, it was overgrown then but it was possible to access the mines quite easily. We spent hours in those old mines. At the time we discovered some old tins, candle lamps and what we thought were old fuses from dynamite. We would travel deep down, eventually we used a ball of wool to trace our steps. There is another entrance to the mine on the narrow road to the mast, just on the left, I can still picture it. It was hidden behind gorse bushes but there is a small path to it, just before the Manx plane crash memorial from memory. I went on to do pot holing in my spare time when I was in the army. I was stationed in Chester and used to go to Fell Beck, Gaping Gill, Lancaster hole, oh joy, what great times.
Here in back end of 2024. Nice video gents
