    My strategy: I always have 3-4 long term pieces in mind, but I just don’t go shopping. I might run into something when I am on holiday or when I run around town, but I learned to only ever buy the item when it is at least a 9/10.

    Agree on not trying to buy hype things. I do love when trends die, and things I’ve wanted and waited for years go down in price.

    This is kind of a flip side of the only-buying-things-in-the-sales thing. I find myself having to be extra careful when deciding whether or not to buy something in the sales that I've had my eye on for a while. This is because of the temptation to view it as a good buy just because it has been reduced in price. I'm pretty fickle myself and am prone to losing interest in certain items that I thought I really wanted. Similarly if you've been given a gift voucher/card and feel tempted to use it straight away. I've learned the hard way that it's much better to hang on until something you really want comes along.
    As usual, great video 👍

    • @JamesLeung
      @JamesLeung  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Another great video, keep it up, Shorter length tops, pants that sit higher at the waist and a bit more fitted seems like something that I’d be interested though coming in only at 5ft6 I don’t know if that would suit me though I have an inkling it might. I also like the outfits you showed when you said that line. Might have to screenshot them for inspiration.

    100% agree with your first point. I wanted white Common Projects Achilles but settled on a pair of KOIO's (still a great shoe). Fast forward 1 year and now I own a pair of white Common Projects Achilles.

    Great vid James. I think that this behavior is part of becoming more mature - getting to know your body type, what you actually wear and consolidating your wardrobe. I’m curious about this weekday hoodie. Any particular reason why you choose a female basic over men’s basic? Cheers 🙌

    • @JamesLeung
      @JamesLeung  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Definitely agree with that! The main thing I liked was the shorter length. But also it has the double zip and it’s also heavier weight than the men’s equivalent. It’s a lovely piece!

    Oh my.... this is where I am at right now and I'm glad you made it even more clearer. However my take is Crockett & Jones been making Moccasins since I can't remember so I think it's OK to choose them over Gucci Moccasins, for an example.

    I buy based on the outfit I want to create. That makes it very easy to choose what to wear since I have the items I want for that particular look. I feel 7-10 is the maximum I need in a rotation at a time, and this way I avoid buying anything that I don't need.

    I think what I have difficulty with in terms of shopping is the change in the weather. I live in a place where it will snow half a meter and drop well below 32 degrees (0 degrees celsius) and then in the summer we'll have a couple of days where its 100 degrees (50 degrees celsius). I need 3 or 4 different jackets, two pairs of boots, some sandals, plenty of linen, and a wide variety of pants.

    • @JamesLeung
      @JamesLeung  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah to be fair if you have extreme weather changes like that you kind of need two different wardrobes!

    The sale price point that you made, is something that I still have from when I was dirt broke in my early 20s as a student. Now that I work in science and make a good living i'm still having a hard time spending money because the mentality is still there. I'll see a shirt I really like but still wait in hopes it drops in to sales lol.

    We may have the same mindset. I don't buy knockoffs and I don't buy things that are super loud (monograms and logos) like Gucci, etc. I may go loud on bold colours but no logos. And textures as long as the construction, stitching are good because they will last. If I can't afford a piece that I like, I go for vintage or Preloved items 😊

    Not only is searching too specifically going to give you less options, but let’s say if you do find something listed by it’s official name: That person understands the products value and you may get a poor deal!

    I hate how a lot of luxury brands live off of the branding. they'll slap their logo all over a piece so that people can walk around as a billboard that goes "I spent too much on this" when you can get the same quality if not better for way cheaper.
    I have a sweatshirt that's $105 that has smoked other ones i've tried for 4x the price. And it doesnt have me being a billboard either, which is how I like it. It's like Zuckerberg, he's wearing extremely premium T-shirts but a lot of people just look at it as a simple t-shirt. He's custom ordering them for $300 a pop from Brunello Cucinelli. The feel of high quality doesn't have to be advertised.
    This is the main reason I cant stand branding on clothes. At most I'll allow like a small logo on something in leather. Even gone as far as to remove patches and such that's been stitched in to clothes because I dont like it.

    • @JamesLeung
      @JamesLeung  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah it’s sad when it becomes about the logo instead of the quality of the piece!

    Hello, I am in the middle of a wardrobe shakeup after a massive weight loss but I need help. In your videos you talk about the importance of sizing and proportions. I have relatively short legs (31 inches legs, 164 cm height / 34 inches waist) and most of the advise online is to buy high waist/raise pants for shorter people, but most brands don't really sell those for men, mostly women. How do I go about buying them? Most of the women trousers with high raise come some other caveats that I am not keen on a lot of the times (baggy, flared out, tight thigh areas etc).

    • @jonanah
      @jonanah หลายเดือนก่อน

      Many vintage style reproductions of men’s jeans have a high rise for those proportions! There are a bunch of Japanese brands making incredible repros - they’re prohibitively expensive new but I’ve had no problem finding deals secondhand in my size

  • @joeysnowynoey8054
    @joeysnowynoey8054 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    For the “on sale” thing I would add to not buy stuff from stores that always have sales. I bet a lot of people have noticed that certain stores basically have sales all the time. So you get tricked into thinking you’re buying something that’s marked down a lot but it’s only a few dollars at the end of the day. I’ve kept track of these stores so I don’t go and immediately buy something because it’s “on sale” there. I want to find the real deals and stuff that’s actually marked down well.
