Well done. You play emaculantly for three days until the big mistake at the end when you fold AJ, seems like and ista-jam, but I guess you were after that pay jump.

AJ was definately a shove. That was a great spot to triple up. Early position opener was a big stack so he could be opening light and the caller wasn't that strong since he didn't raise so AJ was a great spot to get some chips.

It 's probably bad but I don't think calling there was super bad if your nervous to go busto. You have a shoving hand and that's probably the correct play, but calling there if you completely wiff flop you still have 8 bigs to limp a long some more. You don't have fold equity with a 10 BB stack so shoving vs calling I see no difference except garunteeing the pot size b4 flop.

It still amazes me how over 2000 people, most of them average Joes, in a local area just have $3500 sitting around to blow on a tournament. I get hives and question my sanity when buying into $120 tourneys.

Some people value money differently too. Money isn't everything. $3500 is worth some entertainment and a chance to win a million dollars for a lot of people (even though the chance that these people come in first isn't really feasible given the structure of this tournament).

  • @davidthompson62

Great job Lex! As someone who just won a tourney, to make the final table you got to loosen up your play. When the blinds get big you got to get involved with hands and try to steal the blinds. Tourney poker is. Bout accumulating chips so you can lean on smaller stacks and make yours bigger. Get involved in more hands will benefit you in the long run because if your opponents think your a tight-ass player, you’ll get no action on your premium hands. Players who know me know I just as likely to make a big bet to steal a pot than to have it. That way when I have it, I get paid off. Do the same, it will benefit you also! Most of all, get a picture of your dog, put it in a holder and use it as a good luck charm in tourney’s…..Rouge will never do you wrong!!

I’m the infamous words of @fishpoker , Hell Freakin Yeah! Great job brother. For someone who isn’t a tournament player you do very well. The difference in the mentality between you and @Rampagepoker in reguards on what to do in tournaments is outstanding. Hey, tripling your tournament cash winnings, nothing wrong with that at all. I think I’m the hand when you had AJ off suit with the bigger stacks I would have shoved there. I think shoving was the move with the number of BB you had. But hey, folding worked out for you and you moved up one more pay scale. Once again great job!

I’ve been playing tournaments for about 9 years with my biggest score of 5600. You barely play tournies ever and go deep in a wpt main event. I thoroughly enjoyed this Vlog the most because I play mostly tournaments and suck at cash. This Vlog taught me a lot about remaining patient. I’m usually one of those opponents you talked about blasting off. Congrats!! ❤️

Way to learn the biggest lesson EVER in tournament poker....PATIENCE!! You can be aggressive in the lower levels a bit to build a stack with discipline, after that its all about playing good sound poker. Picking your spots, not letting the absolute fustration of going card dead make you try bluffs and things that put your stack at risk. Best I've done is some day two's a few years ago and making the bubble once for a ring (think it was a 400 buy-in or so) when I got taken out boat over boat....ouchie. Great vid, you have another subscriber, keep the vids coming!

AJ was a shove for 3 reasons. 1) Plenty of dead money. 2) Gives you a chance to win the tournament and 3) You’ll want to shove in the 10bb range so that if you hold you’ll have a decent stack. That 3rd concept is hard to grasp but the more you play tournaments it will become clearer. One other point Im fairly confident you did have some fold equity. Your shove looks very strong. Great job tho!!!! 👏🏻

I knew you had to have been a fellow wrestler! I've watched every one of your videos, but don't remember you mentioning that you wrestled. When I saw your first video, you immediately reminded me of my roommate from the University of Illinois in 2001(Matt Lackey) He went 38-0 that year in 165lb. He was a beast. You look and sound so much like him lol. Total compliment, the guy was awesome.

I'm half way through this vlog and you have repeatedly talked about how every decision is big and could be for your tournament life. You discuss how this varies from cash and that it creates pressure. Now...use that knowledge and apply the pressure to those non pros because that feeling is amplified for them. You keep stating the knowledge that will let you crush the game...flip the switch and stack chips! (Not financial advice) I always enjoy your content.

Glad you cashed for more than the min. You made a little under 7k profit, but you played a lot of hours. Early play with a big field means you will most likely have a lot of weaker players at your table, and you should play a little more aggressively once you have a read on them. To make a final table you are going to have to play some hands even if you think they are going to be flips, if you don't win some flips, you aren't going to run deep even if you play low variance. The AJ fold was a bad play. Yes, you don't have any fold equity, but you don't want them to fold, you want at least one call. You need to double or triple up to stay alive in the tournament. Big stacks will open and call with wider rangers. Big stack opens, two big stacks just call without either raising, probably no big pocket pairs, probably middle pairs or suited connectors. You should shove AJ. The original opener isn't going to want to play the hand multi-way and should either make a substantial raise or shove over you. The other two probably won't want to make a call with hands that weren't strong enough to raise when they just called the first bet.

You are a much better player than me but I had decent success grinding online tournaments. What I learned is you have to pick your spots when you have the chips but once you get to around 12bbs, you have to take chances in those marginal spots. Once you accumulate chips, you can open light and push around the short stacks playing conservatively. Waiting for better spots will usually just blind you out. You are better off a small dog shoving with 12bbs than being a slight favorite shoving with 7bbs. AJ could have easily been behind, but it's more likely the big stack was opening light. Even if he has something like 10s, you are getting good odds with the dead money in the pot. Regardless, you played very well for being a cash player and have a good understanding of the differences between cash and tournaments. Love the vlogs, keep grinding

I always felt psychology way easier to tell in a tourney. Smaller ranges. But now I know how you play! I’m going to rev up every pot preflop head to head with yah to get you out lol
