The first thing I noticed was that the wall behind the test bench was a little cleaner than usual. Anyway, always entertaining to watch; and I love the look of those lovely old grey and beige machines. I have a 7-64 hex-core computer in a beige tower (with a 120mm side fan!).

Hey Mike, You are pretty much the positive stereotype of a German Engineer - Everything You do is so neat and nice and even kinda meditative. Impressive.
I can understand the horrible upheaval a move like that creates, I actually did check up on your channel last week wondering why I did not see a new video. Hopefully it will not take too long to settle in. Thanks for sharing that news. Regards from South Africa
I have the exact same lite on dvd burner that's on the first system. That thing is bulletproof. It belonged to my stepdad who bought it for his rig in 05 ane used it for almost 10 years. I've been using it to burn audio CDs almost daily for 3 years now, et even has a direct drive tray, and a red LED for when it's burning data. Besides the rubber on the platter clamp wearing off from so much use, i never had any issue with that drive.
Great to see you back! We all hope everything is ok for you. "Check out that footprint." I was like, what's the big deal, looks like a normal size mid tower... oh... THAT footprint XD
Glad to see you back, man! I remember LGR's video after having moved into a larger space and it was nice to see how the change had made his content creation more convenient and his life less stressful. Hope that's the case for you as well. 👍
Thanks. Once I'm over the change-induced discomfort, it will be a net benefit. This garage is a little bigger and it should be possible to actually set up climate control.
Pleased to see you back Mike. Been missing the teardowns. I worked in a computer shop from the early 90's building the systems which you now take apart!
Gosh, I feel so comforted watching you and nostalgia combined. References to the Simpsons episode made me smile. So glad you're doing okay and thank you for what you do, Mike.
Hey, I remember those purple buttons. But my case the swoops down the sides were painted silver. I remember that the reset button on it was a PITA to push and liked to stick, necessitating the use of graphite, which was marginally effective.
I moved house exactly a year ago. With 250 old computers, 40 CRTs and 100 crates of accessories and spare parts. So I know your pain. I am still not fully set up here. Hang in there!
I have the exact same model DVD burner from the first computer but with a black faceplate in my parts pile. Bought it in 05 for I think my old Athlon XP 3000+ system. Tested it recently and it still works perfectly.
I still got the case on the left kicking around, except I chose to be a "gamer" and drill holes in the top to install two 80mm exhaust fans, lol. A bit silly since temperature was rarely an issue back then, and that case is already better ventilated than most. I hope you get to run across an old "Glitchmaster" power supply from back then. Those where unique. A small company took other power supplies and added HUGE stiffening caps inside. They could store enough juice to ride out an OCR.
Great video as usual. I hope you get more subscribers and views and Patreon supporters to enable you to do more of these videos. Your channel is one of the best Retro PC channels here on TH-cam!
Just want to say I love all the videos you do, even if I'm not into computers as old as some that are featured on here. It's awesome that you know so much about all of this stuff, some of it has helped me work better with the computer stuff I do! I look forward to every video you make!
Congratulations on the move (hopefully) I'm actually going through that RIGHT now and I'm DREEADING every MOMENT of it. I have a shop set up similar to yours on my electronics / pc side, plus all of my metal tools and I have a wood shop all stuffed into my 2 car garage, minus 2 cars, but.. moving now to a place with a basement and NO garage.. : (
Welcome back, hope the move went well. This video was a nostalgic look back for me, remember having to diagnose causes of computer software problems on machines similar to these for my parents back in the 00s. I have to admit I'm glad things like smartphones and tablets got rid of machines like these, they weren't the best function wise, many of them "Packard Bell tier specials" I feel. People would just buy the worst computing junk back then I feel.
Welcome back Mike! Those warranty/price stickers must have been some sort of standard one that computer shops used, as the place where I got most of my parts years ago used the exact same kind, even the font used for the price was the same.
the more i know from mike. i did not know untill now what that brown purt does! now i know its only for modem/network! and at first i was worried abt what had happened to you but then i checked patreon and noticed you have changed (or moved) your studio! so yeah :D
I had a CUSL2C back in the early 2000 (2001) and a pentium3 1000GHZ with 512 ram, wow that was something back then. I worked in a computor store and build this computers and did a lot of repair.
You’re back! Welcome back to you and your sense of humor! Granny instructions lol. Dead and boring.😂 I’ve missed your videos! Being hopelessly dependent on routine is in your DNA. You did a great job recreating your workbench. So glad to see you back in action!
Laughing my head off at the Simpsons references. We had the same case as the second one back in the day. A friend put it together. Windows 98, AMD K6-III 500MHz and SLI Voodoo2 cards. Many hours of GTA2 and Half Life were spent.
@@miketech1024 we are the same in that too then. My better half too is the same. Did you have a bad day on Friday or did you guys steer clear? Imagine they tried say it was NOT an driver causing it in their early statements. Just go to show how little knowledge the money guys have. A filter driver getting a definition update with all 0’s was the cause. Does not take a big stone to wreck a glass house when in kernel mode.
That Toshiba CD-ROM drive has more plastic than my Cyberdrive of roughly the same vintage (and that's something, since the Toshiba must have been much more expensive). Btw, I moved in the summer of 2022 and in April of this year. Still don't know where some of my things went, including a Yamaha SCSI CD-RW drive, which I'd really like to use for my dual slot 1 workstation build.
I have that exact same motherboard and CPU, makes for a great overpowered Windows 98 rig with 1 gigabyte of DDR 266, a fast spinny 80GB HDD, and yes Windows 98 will work with 80GB HDD's but it's pushing the limits of what it likes, and you have to format it elsewhere. I can't remember the GPU in it, I think it's a 64MB GeForce MX440 AGP 4x, which is fitting 'cause I think this board only has AGP 4x, but I can't remember for sure. Topping it off is a SoundBlaster Live Value (Not the crappy dell one) with OPL3. Sure it's kind of cheating and some would say pointless because I could just run an emulator, but I want a fast Windows 98 PC, not an impossibly fast one. Glad to see you're back man, we've all missed the weekly / biweekly videos.
