    Nice job! I purchased this machine several years ago, but I've never used it. Now, I've been inspired to start sewing . . . simple things like napkins, etc. . . . so your video will help me get started. I wish you would do another tutorial on beginning sewing. Thank you again for a simple explanation so I can follow along and get started. Have a lovely day!

      Hi Robyn, so glad you are inspired by my little video. I made it for a friend who lost her manual. I love to sew and actually I love to teach but I just don’t have the personality it takes for great videos. But there are so many great people making videos I do love. Currently I’m obsessed with Lauren Mormino, Siah Swag, and Jess/OklaRoots, and a few others, for their fabulous bag making videos.

      Hi thank you so much for help. I have just discovered my mother's old machine and as it was a bit stiff, decided to clean out bobbin area. Not being a mechanic I could not put it back together properly. Your video was invaluable as I was able to look at how it should sit and copy. Now it runs like a dream. If not for you it might have ended up in a landfill sight. Fiona

    I have a vintage New Home machine 2014 model. I love it! It is a workhorse and I got it at goodwill for $10. It threads left to right as well. The improvement was giving more room for the stitch selector as in my old machine, everything is so crowded. The kept true to the original design EXCEPT the bobbin is a drop in in the original! I love my machine. It has a high and low speed and not one of my modern machines can go half as fast! It can accommodate a twin needed and is my dream machine. I hadn't looked up
    The maker until recently and was so surprised I had the machine of my dreams, just by another name! Happy Sewing! Liza

    Beginner sewers:
    1.) Make sure you have at least 4"-5" of thread BEHIND your presser foot and
    2.) make sure your fabric is over the feed dogs (where the teeth of the machine move back and forth to move the fabric); otherwise, the fabric could get caught down in the feed dogs and cause a jam in your machine).
    3.)Lower the presser foot onto your fabric
    4.) Proceed the sewing process by stepping on the foot peddle.
    😊🍀Good Luck and happy sewing! -😘Jane, A happy vintage Janome owner.

    When winding bobbins I de-clutch the needle so it doesn't madly go up and down as the bobbin winds. To do that, hold the hand wheel with left hand. Grab the wheel inside the hand wheel and turn it forward.
    Don't forget to re-clutch or you'll be wondering why the machine suddenly won't sew. Ha ha!

    hi there and thank you for this video, I am having problems with the cotton snapping as soon as I start to sew - I have been sewing on Singer machines for over 40 years. Have not sewn for a long time and have this Janome machine. I just don't know why it keeps breading the top thread... it seems I am doing something wrong as it is breaking the thread 4:03 minutes into your video - you mention the linside there is a very little tension disc - this is where it is getting snagged -- Anyone able to help me, PLEASE????

    • @monisue2793
      @monisue2793  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Barbara, I don’t have this machine anymore, but tension discs are typically the same on all machines. The discs are actually 2 metal discs quite close together. Be sure to guide the thread between the discs. After threading your machine, can you pull on top thread (after the needle) for a couple of feet and see where it is getting stuck? I have had this happen to me on very old machines but it was almost always due to me not threading correctly.

    Is this machine able to sew through multiple layers?

    • @monisue2793
      @monisue2793  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a domestic sewing machine with the usual limitations. Should have no problem with quilting cotton and light batting. I don't think it has enough "horse power" to sew through vinyl or heavy canvas.

    • @monisue2793
      @monisue2793  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ameliatan0309 I think you could sew through 2 denim layers, like a skirt or pant seam. You would probably run into trouble trying to do a traditional French seam you see on the inside of jean legs. You would have trouble trying to hem with the traditional fold twice method. I always tell people to take a machine for a test drive before they purchase if possible. Try to pick a machine that does not have plastic gears inside, which is hard to do because most sewing machines manufactured after the 1950-60's have plastic gears, including this one. I know because I opened it up!

      Hi Julie, unfortunately I no longer have this machine. I produced the video for my friend Jamonica who owns the machine. Many newer machines are oiled internally when they are serviced/tune-up. You should clean out the bobbin case and oil the outside rim of the hook race periodically. I oil the hook after about 10 hours of sewing. Been doing that for 25 years with my Bernina 1230. Still runs like new!

      Elizabeth Kuhn mine was purchased in the early 80's as a birthday gift. I oil it with only quality oil in professional needle spout container so it releases just one drop per turn-over of bottle when needed. I just remove the top, and oil, then proceed by opening the needle bar area and adding one drop to those moving parts, then I gently lay her down sideways on a soft towel to reach moving parts underneath. This machine is a workhorse!! I replaced the belt myself over 2 decades ago. I use ball point needles for knits, standard needles (#11 for light weight fabric, #14 for medium-heavy, #18 for leather, etc.) This machine will purr if you keep it running right. I suggest videos on taking care of vintage machines by Brian Remingler (here on TH-cam).
