So many great songs came out in 1983 - Uptown Girl, Can't Shake Loose, Making Love Out of Nothing at All, Far from Over, Reggae Night & Twist of Fate are my favourites, thank you Francis for the video! 😎
Friday evening full of excitement, thanks to Francis! My favs are: No.3 - 6:18 a crazy clip, and a song just like a soundtrack to a fairytale, No.2 - 4:34, etheral and profond song of a great magnitude, taken from a hidden treasure LP ( "It'll end in tears", indeed, this is what I have experencied many a times after the last song ended....) No. 1 - 9:51, the very last thing we could expect from a progreesive band, but it is an utter 80's masterpiece; Honorable mention - 3:03, her undisputedly best post-Abba effort.....
Great Selection there from British charts 1983, sad that This Mortal Coil didn't breakthrough in the UK with singles/albums in the main chart but did in the Indie Chart! But they did have hit singles/albums in other countries like: Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, + The Netherlands!
Lots of unknown songs in here. I'm surprised Dione warwick & Luther barely scraped the chart, ok a little cheesy but not terrible and I'd forgotten all about that Rondo Veneziano video, only 2 and a half minjtes long but it was totally mesmorising.
Thank you for this insight on the charts this month 39 years ago. A shame The Lotus Eaters never had any big hits after their first single. A group with untapped potential. WTF is Divine! Quite a lot of funk / 80s soup on here. Can't complain 👍 Everyone knows 'Uptown Girl' and it's a very catchy song. Deserved it five weeks. I do like 'Kiss The Bride' which found a new life in the 'Cold Heart' mashup with Dua Lipa. I find Agnetha solo a bit hit and miss to be honest. The Air Supply and Frank Stallone hits were huge in the US. That Fat Larry's Band song is no 'Zoom'. I'm guessing at this point Karen Carpenter died. She looks frail in that video. Bonk is British slang for.....having sex lol. How did Dionne and Luther finish bottom two? Great duet. Caramba was in the Kia-Ora soft drink commercial. To choose favourites, it's 'Calling Your Name' by Marilyn as my winner in this video. It's a shame he never had a long career. I am guessing he was too out there even if Boy George was more famous (and he was a bf of his I believe?). it's a great song and shame it's not that known. Silver will go to 'Uptown Girl' with Madness, Elton, UB40 Eurthymics, Jimmy Cliff, Yes, Dionne & Luther and The Lotus Eaters making the rest up. I'll pick Elton for the bronze out of those.
C'est là où on voit que certains gros titres outre atlantique n'ont pas tellement marché en grande bretagne -- par exemple Reggae Night qui a fait un carton partout n'a atteint que #91 dans les charts britanniques.

So many songs didn't crack the Top 40! Great work as usual
Too many favourites to mention. Great music and a great time to be a teenager.
War eine schöne Zeit damals im Herbst 1983
Great video. Joe Division is a big classic. Twist of faith anorher nice hit by the unforgettable Olivia Newton Jhon

In This Mortal Coil's video the girl will awake the cenobites ! She's playing with Hellraiser's box. It's 1983 and Hellraiser was released in 1988 !

The way underrated Get Out Of London... The college station here used it as the British singles shoe theme.
Show theme...
@0:09 My favorite song!!!
3:08 the great Ricky Gervais.

Before 1978 this video would be very different, before the UK Chart was only top 50
Algum brasileiro aqui ???
Not a great month then! ....in an otherwise great year for pop.
OMG Ricky Gervais?! Good chart except for Paul soddin McCartney 🤮🤢😡
Most of these are terrible apart from the Carpenters, Agnetha and the Eurythmics. Sorry, Francis.
