This was the season that introduced me to this franchise. And Because of it, it is my favorite season. Especially for the elemental thing. Red gets fire, blue gets ice or water or something in between, green gets either wood or wind, yellow usually getting thunder or earth. And pink element is allways diferent from franchise to franchise. The enjoyable villains, the catchy theme song, the explosive attacks, everything! And seeing you review with that sassy tounge of your is just the icying on the cake.

I've been waiting for this review. Smile was my introduction to Precure and also has my second favorite Precure, Cure Beauty. Joker is also one of my favorite villains in the franchise. He kind of reminds me of Hisoka from Hunter X Hunter with how creepy he is, especially around the Precure. I'm probably going to rewatch Smile while waiting for the next part of the review.
Ah yes, the season that got me into the Pretty Cure franchise and my fav. by far.I love this season and I was thrilled to see you review it. I love how you pointed out that the sweet but ditzy Miyuki shares the same VA with the blood-thirsty and crazy Toga Himoko from MHA and you are pretty much spot on.. Smile is easily the most simplistic among majority of the PC franchise but it’s the most charming and dare I say memorable among the franchise. I re-watch some of the episodes in this season more than any other. I was surprised to hear Candy ended up being a Scrappy on TV Tropes despite receiving growth and development that fairies seldom having and you will eventually cover in this review. Granted, she’s no Harry or Pop but at least she’s relevant and did something unlike Pekorin.

Ah....Smile. Smile. Smile. Smile. My favorite season by far. This season is how I got introduced to Precure in general; it simply has the fun, wonder and thrill that other seasons lacked. Always silly and melodramatic. But this season knows when to get serious and dark! That is why Smile will always have a special in my heart, not only that, but is also the most memorable season for me. The Decors will get more useful time-in-time, Candy will be more likeable and important in time, it will be somewhat creepy. Smile Precure had lots of filler episodes, the ending was rushed and character development also somewhat lacked. Those are actually only minor things I can easily handle! But let's not forget this season has tons of characters (including the villains, the Royal Queen, Pop and Pierrot), so I can slightly understand why the development in characters was lacking. The catchy and beautiful music, the wonderful art and animation. *sigh* Smile will always and always be my favorite, if not the most memorable Precure season!
Oh Miyuki...shes the type of girl that no matter what she does, especially the stupid ones, u cant help but to love her more~ its those things that i like~ not "enraging" stupid (...Mirai...Ichika especially...), but lovable stupid. You forgot in the Yellow Cure line that not ALL of them are the extremely moe or shy types. Remember Sunshine, Rosetta and Twinkle? Those girls arent in those class. For the Blue Cure line, what about Aoi? Like, shes not on the comedian side or the smart side either. That’s why I just adore Miyuki. Her innocence has no bounds and I just love the fact that she isn’t afraid to be herself, outright admitting her love for reading and fairytales. You expect someone like that being an easy target to pick on. She, along with Nozomi, Haruka, and Hana, are my fav. Pink Cures and favorite Cures in general.

Funny thing is, Homare isn’t the first Yellow Cure that Harry’s been shipped with. His Human VA also worked with Yayoi/Peace’s VA in the the anime Kotoura-San as the two main leads, Kotoura and Manabe.
Harry does actually remind me a bit of Manabe (minus the perverted tendencies). They both try to come of as very suave and mysterious, but they’re actually really dorky and eccentric. Still, they’re both genuinely caring and supportive of their friends and know when something should be taken seriously.

With the exception of Deadpool-chu (Detective Pikachu) all Pikachu, be it in games (since X/Y) or anime all Pikachu is voiced by Ikue Otani. Even Deadpool-chu isn't that safe, as in the movie while we hear Ryan Reynolds' voice since we are taking Tim's perspective, but for everyone other than Tim it is still Ikue Otani's voice.

The first time I saw Smile Precure, I was at the Ala Moana mall in Hawaii and went it some Japanese store there. They had some kids books and I found a Smile Precure coloring book there and I convinced my mom to buy it. Even though I didn't know where it was from, I still liked it a lot. *Fast forward to a few years later* I saw Glitter Force while browsing on Netflix and was like "OMG I REMEMBER THAT THIS IS OBVIOUSLY AN ENGLISH DUB" :DDD and then I liked Glitter Force. And after browsing on TH-cam, I found a video of a pretty cure all stars movie where all of the precures were dancing and that's when I found out there was more. And then I found out how much was changed in Glitter Force and was disappointed. Did I watch smile precure after? No I watched Happiness Charge Precure instead, and I liked it. And if they turn that into a Glitter Force I'm gonna be sp00ked

I’d still say that Yayoi/Cure Peace is my favorite character from Smile Precure. Why, because not only is she a representation of me, being a geek and all, but is also because she’s voiced by the same VA who voiced Ika Musume in the original English sub of Squid Girl.
Finally I get to see this one! I am not disappointed so far as hearing this was or maybe is still your favorite season is fascinating but I can see why I mean this season is in my eyes the season that is just the most fun. Not the best written but just that every episode baring that awful monzie episode is legitimately entertaining or funny as hell something that's is rare for Cure so far. Granted I do have a big problem with the season that those effect it but I will save that to see if you feel similar later. As for the review so far I am so glad you said nice things about Narita Yoshimi, as she is by far my favorite writer in this show with amazing episodes from Futari Wa all the way to Go Princess, granted it does sadden me it looks like for both A la mode and Witchy don't have her and even more so that she only has a few episodes in general left that I haven't scene. I know you are doing Doremi so far and I will say she has some of the best episodes in that show written and I think her work in Pretty Cure is actually better in many cases, weird romance episode and (horrible movies about fighting for no reason with a team with no history of fighting that way for something so childish) not withstanding and I defiantly feel that episode 16 is a great one for Reika. Kinda surprised you didn't mention her grandfather though consider he's..kinda played by a familiar actor. On that note I will say I am glad we can be on the same page with Candy. She's not my favorite fairy but I do love her partially cause Otani's performance as her is great and works well to sell her cuteness like with Usagi's actress last season for Hummy. Can't wait to see the rest of your review!! Also yes Miyuki's creepy face will haunt my nightmares even more so than that other creepy cute character her actress plays.

Smile Precure, the last Umezawa Precure series, and while not the best, it is still good in it's own right and can easily beat down some of the Precure series that came after. I do enjoy this series, but this series can be a bit filler-y, but at least the visuals are colorful and nice, much more vibrant than the later Precure series, especially the one that promotes having "Pop" colors. I am really looking forward to this review, and what's with the Pokemon ending? I am sorry but I kinda missing something here.
I'm currently watching Smile, and it's a pretty solid season. The humor's on point, the villains (especially Joker) are intriguing and fun, and the plot's great so far. There are a few things that they could've done better, but considering the circumstances, they did pretty well. Also, this video taught me that Candy shares a voice with a certain sadistic ghost girl, Sachiko. That is amazing.

Why does Cure Happy sound *a lot* like Love Live's Honoka Kousaka, especially when she says "Kira kira kagayaku?" Or do all anime girls fall into generic voice types? If so, then why does it still remind me of Honoka?
Love your videos. Cause I was thinking about watching smile as a power ranger fan I love when they do the pink, red/orange, yellow, green, blue. I guess the lack of a six ranger kind of tore me away from the series but as someone who loves go princess, I hear the season is amazing so I’ll probably have to watch

I understand the humor is what they were going for, but I'm in the camp that if you don't like Smile's humor off the bat you aren't gonna like this season. And that was it for me. However...it's been years since then and I've grown quite a bit so I'm willing to rewatch it again with this review being put out. That'll be fun.

More thoughts to talk about! -With Smile, yeah I noticed the beginning was repetitive as hell. Even Yes 5! knew to break it up a bit. Here it just feels like the same Cure is tainted->Cure wakes up->other cures are useless-->Cure defends other cures-->Cure magically becomes a cure-->Cure uses their new power to save the day. It happens 5 times in a row and it's BORING. I love some of these characters too but their introductions are some of the worst in Pretty cure. -Taking a look back at it some of the humor strikes with me and some of the humor does not. I'm more in the former category now that I'm older, but it still isn't ringing with me that well. I will say some of the emotional scenes however....don't want to spoil that, but let's just say it's really a gutpunch. -Let's talk about the cure outfits, you don't seem to mention them a lot. I like this seasons Cure outfits, but the jackets and shorts remind me wayyy too much of Yes 5 Gogo. You're telling me there wasn't any other outfit you could've made that didn't look eerily similar to a previous one? Even another future installment has better cure designs for 5-teams that all look different and unique in their own way. -Candy is infinitely better than Hummy. WAAAAYYYY better. They actually have a viable reason to be in the plot, they aren't completely useless besides being an info dump machine and most of all, they make an effort to actually help the cures. They aren't stupidly naive because the plot said so. -That being said, I know that some people are unhappy with there not being a 6th cure for the team, but considering the amount of filler in the anime, they probably wouldn't have gotten anything good regardless. Overall, can't wait for the next part!
Inkfy Yeah, the intro was PAINFULLY repetitive, but it ended up becoming one of the most memorable seasons of all. I would also like to point out that the villains had a backstory for once; unless I’m mistaken, it’s one of only two seasons to give every antagonist a backstory. Personally, I was alright with there not being a rogue Cure; a sixth one would’ve just ruined the feel of the show. Instead of adding to the story, it would take away something from it. And on that note, I would also like to mention how refreshing it was to see a season without a rogue cure. That story trope in PreCure is terribly overused and redone... As for comparing it to the Yes! seasons, I like to think of it as an upgraded version. In juxtaposition, you’ll see that Smile is superior is nearly every category, including story, writing, world building, character development, antagonist figures, and animation. The mascot(s) were also more iconic as there weren’t so many of them and in the fact that the mascot was not only appealing in appearance, but wasn’t completely useless to the team overall. Candy is perhaps the mascot that contributed the most to their Cures, and I didn’t really find her all that annoying, either (compared to Milk and Hummy, anyway...) Now, on the topic of the characters’ designs... yeah, I see where you’re coming from. But, again, I like to think of it as an upgraded version of the Yes! seasons. In my opinion, it’s not that big a deal. Lack of originality has always been a problem with the franchise, and this is the lightest offense they’ve ever made.

I can't really get mad at Smile because it was the one that got me into Precure. But it does have its clunky/cringey areas. Also, a lot of Precure villain objectives could be fulfilled by going to America. Definitely a lot of "Bad Energy" there.

The first time I saw Smile Precure, I was at the Ala Moana mall in Hawaii and went it some Japanese store there.
They had some kids books and I found a Smile Precure coloring book there and I convinced my mom to buy it.
Even though I didn't know where it was from, I still liked it a lot.
*Fast forward to a few years later*
I saw Glitter Force while browsing on Netflix and was like "OMG I REMEMBER THAT THIS IS OBVIOUSLY AN ENGLISH DUB" :DDD
and then I liked Glitter Force.
And after browsing on TH-cam, I found a video of a pretty cure all stars movie where all of the precures were dancing and that's when I found out there was more.
And then I found out how much was changed in Glitter Force and was disappointed.
Did I watch smile precure after? No I watched Happiness Charge Precure instead, and I liked it.
And if they turn that into a Glitter Force I'm gonna be sp00ked

I’d still say that Yayoi/Cure Peace is my favorite character from Smile Precure. Why, because not only is she a representation of me, being a geek and all, but is also because she’s voiced by the same VA who voiced Ika Musume in the original English sub of Squid Girl.

this season is my favorite and what introduced me to precure and this show pretty much raised me
Finally I get to see this one! I am not disappointed so far as hearing this was or maybe is still your favorite season is fascinating but I can see why I mean this season is in my eyes the season that is just the most fun. Not the best written but just that every episode baring that awful monzie episode is legitimately entertaining or funny as hell something that's is rare for Cure so far. Granted I do have a big problem with the season that those effect it but I will save that to see if you feel similar later. As for the review so far I am so glad you said nice things about Narita Yoshimi, as she is by far my favorite writer in this show with amazing episodes from Futari Wa all the way to Go Princess, granted it does sadden me it looks like for both A la mode and Witchy don't have her and even more so that she only has a few episodes in general left that I haven't scene. I know you are doing Doremi so far and I will say she has some of the best episodes in that show written and I think her work in Pretty Cure is actually better in many cases, weird romance episode and (horrible movies about fighting for no reason with a team with no history of fighting that way for something so childish) not withstanding and I defiantly feel that episode 16 is a great one for Reika. Kinda surprised you didn't mention her grandfather though consider he's..kinda played by a familiar actor. On that note I will say I am glad we can be on the same page with Candy. She's not my favorite fairy but I do love her partially cause Otani's performance as her is great and works well to sell her cuteness like with Usagi's actress last season for Hummy. Can't wait to see the rest of your review!! Also yes Miyuki's creepy face will haunt my nightmares even more so than that other creepy cute character her actress plays.

Waaaaah! Smile! Pretty Cure! One of the best series ever in the world! My favorite series ever!
It was even the final series before Toei decided to go with these cutcorners, like in Dokidoki, when instead of choosing Regina as the new Precure they chose Aguri! They did the same in HUGtto now!
Also, I hate that Dokidoki succeded this series in its initial timeslot and got good music instead of what Smile Pretty Cure should have! Why? Because it sucks! Toei's golden age has ended for good!

Smile Precure, the last Umezawa Precure series, and while not the best, it is still good in it's own right and can easily beat down some of the Precure series that came after. I do enjoy this series, but this series can be a bit filler-y, but at least the visuals are colorful and nice, much more vibrant than the later Precure series, especially the one that promotes having "Pop" colors.
I am really looking forward to this review, and what's with the Pokemon ending? I am sorry but I kinda missing something here.
Just a reference to Shoji Yonemura's current writing job which I'll get into next time.

I'm currently watching Smile, and it's a pretty solid season. The humor's on point, the villains (especially Joker) are intriguing and fun, and the plot's great so far. There are a few things that they could've done better, but considering the circumstances, they did pretty well.
Also, this video taught me that Candy shares a voice with a certain sadistic ghost girl, Sachiko. That is amazing.

I like Smile Precure because of the fact that they got 3 voice actresses from Pokemon Anime to voice in it.

For me, I admit I didn't like Smile when it first came out. I understand the humor is what they were going for, but I'm in the camp that if you don't like Smile's humor off the bat you aren't gonna like this season. And that was it for me.
However...it's been years since then and I've grown quite a bit so I'm willing to rewatch it again with this review being put out. That'll be fun.

More thoughts to talk about!
-With Smile, yeah I noticed the beginning was repetitive as hell. Even Yes 5! knew to break it up a bit. Here it just feels like the same Cure is tainted->Cure wakes up->other cures are useless-->Cure defends other cures-->Cure magically becomes a cure-->Cure uses their new power to save the day. It happens 5 times in a row and it's BORING. I love some of these characters too but their introductions are some of the worst in Pretty cure.
-Taking a look back at it some of the humor strikes with me and some of the humor does not. I'm more in the former category now that I'm older, but it still isn't ringing with me that well. I will say some of the emotional scenes however....don't want to spoil that, but let's just say it's really a gutpunch.
-Let's talk about the cure outfits, you don't seem to mention them a lot. I like this seasons Cure outfits, but the jackets and shorts remind me wayyy too much of Yes 5 Gogo. You're telling me there wasn't any other outfit you could've made that didn't look eerily similar to a previous one? Even another future installment has better cure designs for 5-teams that all look different and unique in their own way.
-Candy is infinitely better than Hummy. WAAAAYYYY better. They actually have a viable reason to be in the plot, they aren't completely useless besides being an info dump machine and most of all, they make an effort to actually help the cures. They aren't stupidly naive because the plot said so.
-That being said, I know that some people are unhappy with there not being a 6th cure for the team, but considering the amount of filler in the anime, they probably wouldn't have gotten anything good regardless.
Overall, can't wait for the next part!
Inkfy Yeah, the intro was PAINFULLY repetitive, but it ended up becoming one of the most memorable seasons of all. I would also like to point out that the villains had a backstory for once; unless I’m mistaken, it’s one of only two seasons to give every antagonist a backstory. Personally, I was alright with there not being a rogue Cure; a sixth one would’ve just ruined the feel of the show. Instead of adding to the story, it would take away something from it. And on that note, I would also like to mention how refreshing it was to see a season without a rogue cure. That story trope in PreCure is terribly overused and redone...
As for comparing it to the Yes! seasons, I like to think of it as an upgraded version. In juxtaposition, you’ll see that Smile is superior is nearly every category, including story, writing, world building, character development, antagonist figures, and animation. The mascot(s) were also more iconic as there weren’t so many of them and in the fact that the mascot was not only appealing in appearance, but wasn’t completely useless to the team overall. Candy is perhaps the mascot that contributed the most to their Cures, and I didn’t really find her all that annoying, either (compared to Milk and Hummy, anyway...) Now, on the topic of the characters’ designs... yeah, I see where you’re coming from. But, again, I like to think of it as an upgraded version of the Yes! seasons. In my opinion, it’s not that big a deal. Lack of originality has always been a problem with the franchise, and this is the lightest offense they’ve ever made.

I can't really get mad at Smile because it was the one that got me into Precure. But it does have its clunky/cringey areas. Also, a lot of Precure villain objectives could be fulfilled by going to America. Definitely a lot of "Bad Energy" there.
