- "Unlocking the Secrets of the Brain: How the Substantia Nigra Influences Behavior and Hoarding Patterns"
.
The brain center responsible for perceiving novelty is called the substantia nigra, which responds to new stimuli with dopamine neurons, influencing behavior through the reward system. Stimulation of this center can encourage further exploration in anticipation of rewards.
Human aversion to unfair treatment is demonstrated through studies like the Ultimatum Game, where unfair offers lead to rejection. Research on hoarding behavior often focuses on conditions like compulsive hoarding, but a study by researchers at the University of Iowa examined individuals with brain lesions who displayed severe hoarding behavior after their lesions occurred.
These individuals accumulated objects of little value in a way that interfered with daily functioning. Brain lesion patients who hoarded excessively did not differ in age or intellectual abilities compared to non-hoarding patients, but they showed damage in the middle prefrontal cortex, associated with executive functions and autobiographical memory recall.
