I can’t tell you how much happiness you bring when a new video of yours drops. I’m going to attempt a rifle hand guard on a 1922 Brazilian rifle with your videos as a guide. Thanks man
They were strengthened to withstand the Swedish service load. The original service load is the benchmark. I load mine to 2000fps, & of course, the old girl isn't fire much. I have had no problems.
A great video. I am surprised at how much you could change the shape of the cartridge without it deforming completely. I would think that once you have fired the cartridges a couple of times they will shape even better to your rifle so that blow by will be reduced
@@rakumprojects Well, I'm going to be honest enough to admit that I didn't fire my Husqvarna Rolling Block enough to seriously stress the 8x56MS brass to find out, so you could be justified with that concern. Each piece I used went two or so firings without issue but I was working with a relatively small sample size.
Good video. Bertram Brass in Australia still make 8 x58RD cases, expensive though. As you've said, annealing is vital before forming. 45-90 is good for length, the rims need to be reduced in diameter a little, same as 45-70 .45 basic brass is ideal. I have also re-sized and then fireformed 8 x 56R Hungarian cases from PPU, they are a little short, but they work well enough. You're advice on not using the data from Cartridges of the World is absolutely correct, they are far too 'hot', as is your advice on the load for the Swedish Rolling block, which is much softer than for the Krag.
Some say they shadow ban reloading and some gun videos by not posting them in search/main and sometimes not even showing them in subscribers feed. No idea if it's true or it's just typical bugs in YT
Using blackpowder 45-70 brass would solve the blow-by issues as the walls of the brass are ever so slightly thinner. Haven't looked for it in a few years so i dont know if they're even made anymore. I dont see why not but you know the China pandemic hit and all.
Rakum, are you based in the USA? If you need assistance machining parts id be interested in partnering up with you for content. Ps you make want a 6 jaw or collet chuck for turning cases so you are less likely to crush them.
I'm in the US. I just bought a milling machine so I hope to expand my capacities soon. How do collet chucks work with rimmed or tapered cases? I've been meaning to buy a set of ER32 collets.
@@rakumprojects you can bore a 5c emergency collet to hold each case or make a diy reamer fairly easily. But it would have to be a spiral one to work with the gaps from each leaf.
45-90 brass works quite well. Use a LEE shell holder as the process will destroy multiple RCBS holders. Ask me how I know? You can adjust the rim dia in a drill press w/file. No need to pussy foot around with multiple strokes - do it in one pass. I did a hundert and din't lose a case. Use Tempilaq indicator to tell you when to take the torch off of the brass, then drop it IMMEDIATELY into a pan of water. This is important.

The Swedish rollers in 8x58 are fine with modern loads. The Swedes case hardened the BP receivers to strengthen them for smokeless propellant.
They did re-harden the receiver during the conversion process, but it's still debatable if full power loads can be used with them.

You had us in one case conversion and you still made two, Love your videos!
I love this kind of content, keep up the good work mate.
You make some of the best videos btw they are so calming and well done
this is perfect, I'm very glad to see this video and it'll be a huge help when I'm able to make rounds for my rolling block
The magazine of the Krag is so cool
>he used imperial sizing wax the whole time
Really you should switch over to metric sizing wax half through to make sure it goes to 8mm properly.
You're right, he actually made 323 by 58 R cartridges!
That big of a resize would be easier if you did multiple annealing steps as well as multiple passes through the die.
Excellent piece of reloading engineering. Keep up the great work!
Whow love your plain no bullshyte commentary. Have learned woohoo much from your vids. Thanks from new zealand.
Am I having a senior moment, or did you once have a video on reloading the 8x52R Siamese (not the 8x50r)? If so I can't find it now.
I have an old one here th-cam.com/video/zaQQAYiyrbc/w-d-xo.html

I have become your newest subscriber. Stay safe and God bless.✌️🇨🇦
WoW what a great video. I need to make some 8x58 rd brass for my roller. You're a pro....
In the 1980'ties I had app. 3700 pcs. original loaded Danish 8x58R cartridges, but no gun. I sold those cartridges in one lot, for US$ 0.40/pc.
Surprised you didn't try 8x56mm Mannlicher Schoenauer brass. Used them myself for this round and they worked well enough.
I only have a couple pieces of brass. The base diameter is a bit smaller than 45-70 so I'm worried they may crack.

The Swedish rollers have case hardened receivers
This was done to accommodate the Danish loads.
I load 170gr bullets to 2000fps.
i love at the range section being able to hear the ping of someones m1 garand XD
Hey man if you have a martini Henry or ever get one could you perhaps make a Morrison tube along with some .297 Morrison short
cool great info enjoyed this learning video
Thank god for you.
I won't lie id be confused asf if i found your brass at the range expecally the 45-70
Have you tried using 8x56r?
I haven't but it's possible. I have a few pieces and the base diameter is a bit small. I'm not sure about their longevity.
@@rakumprojects would be neet if you tried 5rds and give an update
7.62x54r? Just spitballing.
Thanks for the video!
Bertram's make brass for this calibre.
I purchased from him. 😊
ANOTHER RAKUM PROJECTS VIDEO LETS GOOOO!!!
How different is 8 X 57 cases ? There is a book called cartrage conversions . The 45-70 is a low pressure gun .
8x57 Mauser is totally different. Different dimensions and no rim.
Im not sure if they changed it again but be careful. YT sucks and bans reloading vids
God forbid someone make educational content instead of abusing their kids for content. Leave it to yt to have their priorities skewed

Did you remove the expander ball from the die while you were resizing it?
I did when reforming the 300 win mag cases. It's a good habit to get into when sizing in small increments in order to not over work the brass.
@@rakumprojects But not when you were doing the 45-70?
@@alanrandall3024 I probably should have, but since it's an easier conversation it's not completely necessary.
@@rakumprojects I figured since the 8mm expander is way smaller than the 45-70 it would not really need to be removed.
I like the long neck on 8X58
could i use these cases to make 8x56r
is this 8x58rd but smokeless?

I use 303 British brass for this
For 8x58r or 30-40? 303 is dangerously undersized for 8x58r but it can be converted to 30-40 Krag.
