It's a huge, deep, rewarding game. Totally worth the learning curve to make yourself look boss around other nerds. I remember testing this. Guardian Force also ignores the Phalanx damage reduction. I've beaten a few enemy knights where, they popped Phalanx and Guardian Force at the same time, and I did damage to the other units to kill them.

I was very turned off by lack of movement and speed, but soon realized 1 or 2 guys with rampart aura 2 plus phalanx really gives you nice map control so your other units can do their thing better and more safely. Thank You kindly! Yeah, they were kinda odd, because they were the standard balanced fighter, while the Berserker was running around using higher Strength to get better defense. @@CoffeePotato Indeed. Knight in that first TO game have absolutely NO skills, spells or abilities. Just attack with your sword unless you were equipping a weapon that included a special skillor giving them a skill granted by Roderick at Hell's Gate by the almost end of the game, and except for Fudo, those skills sucked anyway. Regardless, the first version remains my favorite despite of the remakes.

    Both the shadow auras I did not find myself using them often when they're first unlocked. I think the knight has just enough mp to deploy one throughout chapters 1-4 when fully charged mp. Although I'm late to sharing my ideas for the game, I think you'll find the shadow auras more useful later on like in the CODA chapters when your knight has respectable max mp. Without collecting the blue cards in the field, one tactic you can try to demonstrate the use of shadow auras is charging your knight's mp during the opening turn. That way you can advance your knight and begin setting up defenses out in the field with the auras.
    If there is one thing that I think all of us Tactics players are guilty of, it is being cheap with mp charging 😆. Solely relying on the natural mp charge per turn or actions.

    • @CoffeePotato

      I can. But the difference is super minor next to attacking the right targets. Optimal growths may give you like 50 extra damage. By end game hitting on the right element can give 2-500 extra, breach can throw that even higher, fear, etc.

    Knights are the best tanks in the game, they are great because they can take punishment from multiple units if positioned properly.
    It is just that because of guardian force they can protect others units even better when compared with the other tanky units.
    This class is a curious cause because the weaker you are damage wise, the better the knight is.
    This class is so good that there are some builds with bodysnatch that in theory would be great, but let just say once you get more experienced with reborn, you will not need a unit that strong defensively.
    Rampart shadow is the skill that best represents the knight as a class, great when you are weak and loses value when you are stronger.
    And another positive point about the class is because of the shield you can bash units out of rampart aura to halt movement even better, while any shield unit can bash, the knight is one of the best rampart aura users in this game.

    Knights are something I personally barely run. For one, I just dislike the heavy armor open helmet look, which I know is such a shallow reason, but it's there. But the other reason is also that 90% of the time, my biggest issue holding the line is coming from range. In LUCT, enemy archers being super strong even without the whole breaching thing is the obvious reason, but even in Reborn, I find ranged enemies to be far more obnoxious, because regular knights just don't get targeted as much. I've been running Terror Knights as my area denial front line instead, in hopes that the lower defenses would actually divert attention better - and yeah, this works really well. Plus, they can block off enemies and then push through after their debuffs stick. Alternatively, I send in gryphons because they are fast, can fly to the archers instantly and ALSO draw attention to them because of their lack of armor or something.
    The other, admittedly kinda funny thing about them, is that Knight *is* usually my first choice to reclass to whenever I think my cleric could use some offensive application, but then I get so scared of getting into endlessly long undead battles by not having Exorcise (which definitely happened when I played the FFTA games as a kid so often to the point that I irrationally over-prepare against it) that I STILL don't end up running a knight.
    I still want to give knights another chance eventually, but so far, the poor guys always end up short for what I want them them to do.
    EDIT: btw, I *know* they are supposed to just lock off areas instead of actually drawing all attention to them (that will happen as a side effect anyway) but I always end up thinking "yeah, but locking away enemies doesn't matter if their much more troublesome archery club can just ignore that lock".

    • @CoffeePotato
      @CoffeePotato  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fair enough, personally I've been loving the Golem/Knight combo lately for this reason. Golems attract more arrows than knights, plus can block more LoS because tallness. If you have them push forward and just lock down corners and such, they can prevent ranged units from ever even getting involved, it feels goooood.

    • @justsomejojo
      @justsomejojo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CoffeePotato I actually tried the golem (Baldur, not sure if that makes a difference) now and yeah, this works REALLY well! I originally started running one because I got my first pumpkin and wanted a second target for Empower Golem (stacking Empower and Sanguine Assault on a cute little pumpkin is funny), but I didn't expect a wall this good! I also tried the regular knight a bit more and I actually like the class a lot more now. For one, they really do take a LOT less damage than my terror knights (the difference is way bigger than I expected), but I also became very fond of shield bashing enemies to knock them away, which I can't really do on most TK setups. The shield bashes usually deal a surprising amount of damage too, which is very strange (feels like they ignore armor at least in part or something) but very welcome.

    • @CoffeePotato
      @CoffeePotato  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@justsomejojo There was some technical breakdown of the shield thing, something like they apply their attack bonus twice or something, but they do great in a lot of situations, it's really reliable. Fun note, it looks like footing decides Knockback chance, since it seems like having Swamy or wet footing results in less chance of Knockback.

    • @justsomejojo
      @justsomejojo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very interesting. I would have thought wet and swampy or other generally unstable ground would make knockbacks easier. Going by real world logic at least.
      The fact that shields apparently get this unique damage formula is really cool. Kinda makes me want to go and do a shield only roadblock character. Bit of a shame they lost the status immunities and parries from PSP though. Made them feel like actual shields.
