Interesting find on our nature morning walk | Mamey sapote/ Mamey apple fruits & trees on the island

We always find something interesting on our early nature rising (morning) walks and this time it was a mamey apple tree in its abundance of fruits on the ground which we fulljoyed.
At a tender age growing up on the islands, we always hear the elders call this fruit mamey sapote and also mamey apple. It is also known as Tropical Apricots in other countries and they pretty much taste and has a similar texture to the apricots abroad.

I love mamey apple, but the trees are slowly dying out where I come in Jamaica. The people in my community are not crazy about the fruit, so it just falls off the trees and rot. But I think it's a delicious fruit.🇯🇲

What part of Jamaica? I never seen this fruit before. I heard that mamey sapote grows wild in st. Mary and Portland, but I never knew that mamey apple grows wild anywhere in Jamaica.

In Trinidad 🇹🇹 we call this fruit.....' mammy sepote'.
I have both varieties growing.....a reddish colour fleshand a yellowish coloured one.
Lovely fruits.

I think mamey sapote and mamey apple are two different fruits from different plants. Mamey sapote is kinda egg shaped and has only one seed, closely related to the sapodilla (Newberry).

Greetings from St. Vincent. I just bought two of these. Ate he fresh fruit for the first. Nice crunchy apricot and mango flavour. Interestingly enough years about when I was a little boy, i had it but in jam form lol my Aunt did Mamey Apply jam and it tasted good. On a side note, the flesh hard to get off lol

I saw the video title and thought it was a Jamaican channel I follow, since I've heard of this growing up. Would probably find this fruit in the hills and mountains back home. Nowhere can compete with tropical vegetation!

The texture is incredible. One of my favorite fruit as a kid. Rumor has it that you shouldn't use alcohol with it but I never found out why.

Yes I recently went to Guyana 🇬🇾 and I got 2 seeds and both sprouts..I am happy 😊. It did took about 4 week or so
