  • There's still a lot to do yet but you can see the park at the front, the RCS cutouts, and the white panels that will be put across the whole ship.
    We now have windows cut into decks B and C, and the engines will be built at some point. :)
    She's looking beautiful!

    Good to see! I had thought the ship could use some additional texture and details 🙂
    Make it look more like a spaceship and less like a space Frisbee...

      This is actually quite old. The ship is very different now :)

    Is this the final design of the ship? I think it would probably be a good idea to have another ship design. Generally people want to fly around in a cool looking ship. I think it would probably give the game a bit more attraction and attention. Altho I do like what im hearing about how it will work. Just personally would not want to fly around in a white plate.
    Keep up the good work!

    Looks like a Miranda-class Starship minus the roll-bar and the warp nacelles.

      We've created lots since the last playtest but couldn't find the time to get any good videos out. You can find all of our smaller updates on Twitter or Discord though :)

      We plan to bring the demo out by Mid June on Steam :) If you would like access to the development builds, our backers via Patreon/Ko-Fi/Paypal have permanent access. You can find these on our website www.starshipsimulator.co.uk

    I much prefer the original Magellan design. It looked better. I understand, but it looked so much freaking better.

    Is this a design for… system-test purposes? Will there be other ship designs available?

    Interestingly, it seems like you made the choice to have the ship themed around the Kelvin timeline ships from Star Trek, instead of the more "Prime" ship you had earlier.
    Even though I didn't like it at first, this redesign is spectacular. Oh and one more thing! Say 'Hi' to your legal team for me, I have no idea how this isn't crossing some copyright boundary, LOL!

      Thanks, she's definitely not finished yet, but in terms of the general silhouette we're happy with the shape. Still to come are the engine pods at the rear, and a lot more hull detailing. The design of the Magellan Class is actually inspired by multiple sources, for example the Jupiter 2, and to a lesser extent the Millennium Falcon. There have been many circular ships in sci-fi, both before and after Trek made use of the design.
      Other than the Bridge being on top (as it is with the Metaluna Saucer which long predates Trek), there's actually nothing on the ship, or in the game as a whole which is visually similar to Trek. Our ships don't have warp nacelles, secondary hulls or deflector dishes, which would need to be included for it to be considered a "Trek ship". In fact, everything on our ships is based on real world science, not sci-fi, so you won't find warp cores, transporters or replicators either. The interior design language is actually inspired by famous architects such as Zaha Hadid.
      Starship Simulator and Trek both deal with the idea of humanity exploring the stars and seeking out new life, but we each approach that idea in our own unique way. We're using real science, real technology, and real human organisations. Everything in our game has its roots in the real world :)

    Looking good so far. Is that her final shape or will more be added like nacelles for example?

    • @DanGovier
      @DanGovier ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There will be two engine pods moulded to the rear of the ship, which will thicken the rear section and extend it back slightly. The windows at the front will also be a different shape, and there will be a lot more visible hardware. The dish on top needs modelling properly, and that will spin. The ship will be a typically NASA style black and white predominantly, although she'll also have some form of paint job that players will be able to customise.

    • @R3C0i11
      @R3C0i11 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanGovier Not sure I like the idea of the engines tbh but I'll reserve judgement until she finished. really like the 3 upper decks tho, offering up a nice viewing angel for the crew that aren't on the bridge. The front large window is unique, I assume it's for some sort of arboretum garden? either way looks really good. Big improvement on the older ship so far. tho I do kind a miss the spoiler😁, I always thought that would be a long rang sensor array or something.

    • @DanGovier
      @DanGovier ปีที่แล้ว

      @@R3C0i11 Yep, the arboretum is right at the front, although we're referring to it as "The Park" because it's more of an earthlike recreational space than a true arboretum. The upper floor of the medical complex actually overlooks the park, giving injured crewmembers a more tranquil view to aid in their recovery.
      I was also quite fond of the spoiler, but it really made the ship look too much like a Miranda class. We want her to look unique, and circular hull aside, in no way directly resembling any ships from the Trek franchise. We're want to establish our own design language for starships :)

    • @sandwiched

      @@DanGovier Form follows function! I've always been a fan of first establishing the core features and their shapes and whatnot, and then having those dimensional requirements as restrictions for the final shape.

      I’m definitely glad to hear the rear of the ship will be extended a bit and engines added…the entire reason I was excited to see the ship was with the spoiler, as it looked close to a Star Trek cruiser but still had its own signature…I love the ships from the original movies as they looked believable, almost like you could imagine the Navy in the 23rd center. Just please god don’t make the engines anything like the new JJ Abrams enterprise with the big goofy bubble engines. I’m really praying you’ll be able to strike a balance between being a believable trek type ship but still make it your own.
