    Why hunt coyotes?
As 4th generation ranchers and farmers, hunting coyotes is not just a hobby or a pastime for O'Neill Ops. They have a duty to protect the cattle that they raise for food. For them, predator hunting is not merely a sport, but a way of life.
Coyotes are presently the most abundant livestock predators in western North America, causing the majority of sheep, goat, and cattle losses. For example, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, coyotes were responsible for 60.5% of the 224,000 sheep deaths attributed to predation in 2004.The total number of sheep deaths in 2004 comprised 2.22% of the total sheep and lamb population in the United States, which, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service USDA report, totaled 4.66 million and 7.80 million heads respectively as of July 1, 2005. Because coyote populations are typically many times greater and more widely distributed than those of wolves, coyotes cause more overall predation losses. The United States government agents routinely shoot, poison, trap, and kill about 90,000 coyotes each year to protect livestock.
Coyotes typically bite the throat just behind the jaw and below the ear when attacking adult sheep or goats, with death commonly resulting from suffocation. Blood loss is usually a secondary cause of death. Calves and heavily fleeced sheep are killed by attacking the flanks or hindquarters, causing shock and blood loss. When attacking smaller prey, such as young lambs, the kill is made by biting the skull and spinal regions, causing massive tissue and bone damage. Small or young prey may be completely carried off, leaving only blood as evidence of a kill.
In the absence of hunting pressure practiced by rural people, urban coyotes are losing their fear of humans, which is further worsened by people intentionally or unintentionally feeding coyotes. In such situations, some coyotes have begun to act aggressively toward humans, chasing joggers and bicyclists, confronting people walking their dogs, and stalking small children. Non-rabid coyotes in these areas sometimes target small children, mostly under the age of 10, though some adults have been bitten.

You can see racoon, opossums and armadillos out to 400, hogs and deer clearly identified to 1000 yards, and cows at 1.5 miles. Mice and rats out to 200 but they look like white or black hot blobs, you can identify them at around 30 yards or so depending on their size. I have watched raccoons at 200 plus yards climbing in trees. Owls and other birds nesting, and squirrel nests give of a slight heat signature but you gotta be paying attention to resolve them. The outline setting is unique in that it easily identifies shapes at longer distances for recognition between deer and hogs. It is truly an amazing scope. If you are looking at entering the market it is a big pill to swallow but trust me save up and get the 12 micron core it does what a lot of others wont.

They also use long range infrared lights. that are invisible to the naked eye but it light up the the field like day out to a couple hundred yards. Something that I did notice about this video, is the placement of your shot on a coyote as opposed to a hog. You appear to go for the shot in line with the shoulder joint on a coyote, whereas with a hog you try to get a neck shot each time. Is this because of the difference in the muscle build of each type, and that that coyote is a much lighter beast? Just curious.

Think better: if man did not spread to other places, a super population would happen in the areas where humans live, until they reach a point where they will have to expand to other lands, and also, cities only exist because people spread,if not,we would have to live in the woods, surviving every day.

    • @keayrhyasen3071

@@jozebutinar44 since wolves have been hunted out, coyotes only have a couple of predators other than man... bears and mountain lions.
coyotes will exhaust their local food source and be forced to move on to the next. when they do that, they bring the bears and mountain lions with them.
it's all fine and dandy until the coyotes start hunting small children when they've run out of their 'normal' prey.
but go ahead and stand up for the rights of a vicious animal. just pray it's not lurking in your back yard, waiting for your cat, or dog, or child.
