If I remember correctly Amy lee didnt like the album herself and considering a big part of evanescence is gone considering Ben left I think that same edge
This song has strong Christian psychological underpinnings to it, and I suspect it makes the remaining band members uncomfortable. They moved away from that explicitly religious theme once Ben left in the schism.
@@liebling8560 yep when they decided mainstream popularity was more important than good music. Their stuff hasn't been the same since. Which is fine, that's their choice, but the music did suffer for it after Origin and Fallen.

It's because when you get older, you think that these lyrics are cringe... don't get me wrong, I love fallen and I live origin, but just let us be serious for a moment.. origin is the ultimate symbol for teenage angst and no one can feel my pain cringe. It's well written and very good produced cringe, but especially from. The perspective of the writer, these lyrics are pure puberty and pain.
So if puberty and pain are the two main ingredients for these lyrics and you are thinking that they should have stayed like this 4 ever, tell me..

The reson why they changed their sound is because bem left and yeah, that's sad, but what should they do about it? But the reason why the lyrics and the style itself changed never had anything to do with commercial product design, but with getting older and moving on. The songs for fallen where written between Amy's 14 and 19 birthday.. the most of them before she went 18. You must be very young to not understand the difference between the feelings and the mindset of a person under 18 and a person over 20. The second album came when she was 25, so between some of the lyrics there wherefore than 10 years of time. It's absolutely clear that she changed. It wouldn't be normal the other way around

Love it when the bass kicks in after the "AAAaaaAAAaaaAAAaaAaaaa" and the band starts chiming in. That guitar tone is HUGE- then her amazing ethereal lyrics sets the tone and it all comes together so well. After 20 years this song still rips like I was 18 and didn't have to take a lot of ibuprofen all the time lmao

I hate that this song was never reprinted in anything they did. It was on a demo album and nothing else. Lol ironically it's my favorite song from them. I'm not saying it's their best song, just my fav cause I listened to this song in particular a lot as a kid.

I was 14 at the time, spent nights playing NFS and blasting Evanescence in my headphones, feeling like every lyric was written for and about me...damn, those were the good times!
This is the first song I ever heard of Evanescence back in 2000. My dad was playing it and at first I was like "seriously dad??" at the opening, and then I realized I spoke too soon... I was only 12 years old and hadn't found this kind of music yet at the time but it made me look more into this, thanks dad.
The only way you could've heared this song in 2000 was if you were there in Little Rock, Arkansas. That is the only place that song was heard in 2000.

I forgot about this song until somehow this played on my local radio station. I was so excited thinking they finally released this as a single but no. I am glad to reconnect with the old Evanescence songs though. Definitely needed it.
I would do anything to get another album from Evanescence in the experimental style of Origin. The whole album is a masterpiece and a combination of different genres, I love it!

I'm more then sure they have. Beleive it or not, both bands are about the same amount of popularity, it's just that evanescence is the more... I hate to use this word, but overrated out of the two. Both bands have been to major events at the same time so I would imagine they had to have met at least once

I love anything dark and gothic it reminds me of vampires, I love Amy's voice as well it gave me goosebumps.
Am I the only one who notices the Christian undertones in this song? "Arms outstretched, awaiting me, an open embrace, on a bleeding tree." Sounds an awful lot like crucifixion to me. "Run to me, and I'll comfort you. I have lived and I died for you." Put that previous line with this one, and there's only one person I can think of who would say this. When people thought Evanescence was a Christian band, songs like this are what I point to in support of that logic. I know they're not, it's pretty obvious from their more recent releases, but it's hard to deny the undertones in this song
The second verse offers relief to the suffering of the first verse. This is why I love this song.

This is a very deep song. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but it should be called 'The Sinner's Lament.' I like the religious theme of it, I think it would be good music to listen to in an old church or a graveyard.

My parents believe you can lose your salvation. But there is something ive always believed, my grandmother always believed as well, once you receive salvation you are sealed for eternity.. in that song, she asks God, " will i be denied christ?" I get confused.

Easily the best song of all time. Awesome contrast female vocals vs male vocals vs heavy instruments, irregardless of the lyrics, (which as are awesome as well.) The vocals could be about opening a jug of milk and this song would still rock.
