    Hey Tim! I just got into Georgia tech for class of 2024! I live in California and wanted to ask: do you think the extra out of state tuition is worth it for this school over UC San Diego? Thanks!

    • @TooTallTim
      @TooTallTim  4 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Hey - first off, congratulations that’s great news! Second, this is a loaded question, but I’ll do my best to share my thoughts. I really love Georgia Tech and would encourage anyone to attend if they can, but I think the biggest thing to consider in this situation is whether it’s financially responsible for you to take on the out of state tuition because student debt is nothing to take lightly. If that’s not an issue for you, then secondary things to consider include things like determining which school is better for the major you want to pursue, which environment is better suited to help you grow and thrive, and simply where do you really want to be. Ultimately, I believe college is what you make of it. Whether you go to GT or USCD, a degree is a degree and it’s up to you to make the most of your college experience wherever you are. Hope that helps and feel free to ask anything else!

      I thought about it, but they don’t let people record in the weightlifting area, but I’ll definitely get around to showing y’all some of it! Yeah it’s pretty crowded throughout the day if you’re trying to lift, but the basketball courts are emptier in the mornings and late night and busiest in the afternoon.

    Hey, I’m a sophomore in highschool and I really wanna go to Georgia tech. I’m planning on going into mechanical engineering. What do you think I’d need to at least have a chance of getting in as far as GPA, SAT score, and other things like extracurriculares. Also, do you work on a lot of projects while you’re there with professors and colleagues?

    • @sarahmontgomery6403
      @sarahmontgomery6403 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I got in as a computer engineering major with a 1380 SAT and a 4.01 gpa. It’s not the greatest stats for engineering but it was apparently good enough. Take hard classes, at least 9 APs by the time you graduate, write a really really really good “Why GA Tech essay”. I had a unique common app essay and a good “why GT” essay so I think that’s what got me in. Plus, I took cyber security classes and had cyber security certifications which I think really helped in solidifying why I wanted to go into the major I wanted. Show interest, and most importantly, TAKE CLASSES AND DO EXTRACURRICULARS THAT RELATE TO YOUR MAJOR. That means taking some workshop classes at school, tutoring some STEM subjects at school, etc. if you do that, maintain a good gpa and get an sat score of at least 1350, you’re good.

    Graduated from Tech in '89, '90, '96. BAE, MAE, Ph.D. Thankful for the education. In those oh so long ago times, the campus was a bit grittier and Woodruff was the new building on Campus. Now, frankly, and I'm trying to be objective, the campus is a bit sterile and corporate. The students are riveted to their phones and other devices. It's a bit sad, but one day you too will return to campus and your favorite tree will be long gone, replaced by a usb charging station, a chair, and some glass. For all of the progress, it was a nicer campus for humans back a long, long, long time ago.

    • @TooTallTim

      It really depends on a lot of different things! Just to name a few: major, # of credit hours you come into college with, average course load you decide to take, internships/co-ops, etc. It's really common for students at GT to graduate in 5 years, but I've also known people who graduate in as little as 3 years and as many as 6 years. Hope that answers your question!
