Ann was 62 when she did this, barely younger than the Zep guys. Asked if she was nervous before going out there, she said "it was like Nancy and I were strapped into the seats of a space shuttle for a launch. We had no choice - we had to fly"! One of the best "live" performances of any kind, cover or not.

Can you imagine the thoughts and feelings going through the group Led Zeppelin as they listened to this great performance by Heart, the orchestra and chorus. The best tribute video I ever saw and probably the best ever. A lot of raw emotion there. RIP JOHN BONHAM but his son filled in admirably.

This performance led to Heart touring with Jason Bonham where he opened for them, Heart headlined and then he joined them for a 30 minute Zeppelin cover encore at the end of the show. Brilliant!
It was funny to me how many Heart fans were mad that they took up so much of their show doing Zep covers. The Zeppelin fans thought it was awesome. I had always wanted to hear her tear into some of the Zeppelin catalog and she really did a nice job on some tough songs. Particularly liked The Rain Song.
Seeing Jason Bonham look up to heaven at the end from his dad's drum kit always brings tears to my eyes, great reaction guys, I think all 3 remaining members of Led Zep were in tears at some point during this too.
Jimmy Page was having a ball !!! Also Ann Wilson is THE female rock singer on top of all others and she is also in the top listing of ALL rock singers of any gender

I agree. Ann doesn't get near the credit she deserves, but I think this performance opened a lot of peoples' eyes. She did here what she's done on concert stages for 40 years.
@@brewswillis9783 Floor is a great vocalist, but her cover of Alone took all of Ann's nuances and put them to a stripped down production. The scream/yell before the second chorus is done really well by Floor, but it was created by Ann. There was no scream written into the song, Ann ad-libbed it in the studio during the instrumental part and now it's viewed as a hardwired part of the song. I'm not dogging on Floor at all (she's incredibly good), just saying that Ann is an original and at her peak I'm not sure any rock singer (especially hard rock) could come close to touching her. This video was done when she was at age 62 -- when she was 22, 32, 42 her vocals were even stronger than here. There is a cover of Heart doing Unchained Melody on TH-cam from back in 1980 and it might be the finest live performance I've ever heard.
@@chrisacer6605 You do know what ballpark means right? Floor can pretty much sing any song in AW/Heart's catalog probably better than anyone outside of Ann. I don't have that same confidence that Ann (in her prime or not) could do the same with Floor's catalog. Floor could probably imitate Tarja's operatic voice and bad accent if she wanted. LOL Cheers!

Such an epic performance. I loved the reaction it got from Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and especially Robert Plant. Another thing that makes this cool and epic is the fact that John Bonham's son Jason is playing the drums. 👍👏🤘✌️

And supposedly part of Robert Plant's confusion was that they wanted Jason Bonham to come to the ceremony, and he said he couldn't make it. They didn't know he was going to be playing with Heart.
They did amazing on this...Plant was in awe and tearing up..and to have John Bonhams son on the drums and wearing his dads derby hat was very special

@@theincorruptedeye8226 Stairway to Heaven in my eyes is about the journey to Heaven or afterlife. In other words, finding your purpose on Earth. My next best guess would be that while “to be a rock and not to roll” is a play on words, the meaning behind it would be “to be a person and have no purpose.” That leads to the last line (she’s buying a stairway to Heaven) which means that in order to find her purpose, she is seeking help from a greater being, or God. That is my interpretation, this is probably one of the toughest songs out there to find a meaning to. Hope it helps.
The Wilson sisters (Heart) are national treasures. And how about that guitar solo - wow. Just an epic performance from all concerned. Chills abundant! Pretty amazing to get a standing ovation from the artists that made the song famous.
Ann Wilson, the greatest female rock vocalist of all time and Nancy Wilson, one of the greatest guitarists out there and a great singer in her own right. How could you go wrong? This goes down as one of the greatest live performances ever.

It's epic because it was a tribute.
Plant was rocked to his core, his relationship with Bonzo was rare and it showed especially with Jason wearing his Pops boller and playing drums. The entire choir in bollers!!
Page and JPJ were elated and Jimmy thought Shane Fontayne's grinding was on point, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Robert Plants expression and emotion were from being surprised seeing Jason on the drums. Jason is the son of the late great John Bonham, the original drummer. It gets me every time when Jason looks up as the word heaven is sung. That was for his Pop's. Peace!

I saw that said Robert never knew Jason was going to be playing and be on his dads drums at that. Robert and John were best friends .The hats everyone had on were a tribute to John I think Robert was wishing his friend was mainly

Yep, all true. Jason was actually one of the first they asked to be in the tribute, and he was the one who wanted Ann to sing it. In an interview he said they initially had someone else in mind, and he demanded they get someone who knows, understands, and loves Zeppelin. As far as powerhouse singers go that narrowed it down to Ann and a handful of others, and it made since to have Ann and Nancy there given their well-known love of Zeppelin.
Great choice - Heart are so good and this a great version of the song but especially Ann Wilson on vocals,she is just so good!

Actually Plant said he was thinking about Bonham not being there, but at the same time his son Jason playing the drums. If you know that ahead of time and watch this again, especially at the end when Jason Bonham looks up, it's a completely different watch.
Everything you said was right with one gigantic misread by you! Plant was not confused or jealous in the least. He was touched and nostalgic and was teary-eyed! Boy, did you misread his emotions! What in the world were you watching?
I tend to believe Robert Plant would have been very emotional had there been no cameras trained on him. Keeping your emotions in check is hard while being watched. I love how all three of the band members look at each other with joy on their faces during the performance. What a great night to be there!
Heart back in the early 70’s cut their teeth doing Led Zeppelin covers.
They did Rock and Roll during every single encore for many years, including through most of their 80s/90s commercial peak.

My favorite part of this video is when Heart’s guitarist was playing Jimmy Page’s solo and Page is smiling and nodding and mumbling “very good very good.”
That was not "Heart's guitarist". That was Michael Barakan - better known as "Shayne Fontaine". He is a true star in his own right.
The original Heart guitarist was Roger Fisher who was and is an incredible guitarist and founding member of the band Heart long before Ann and Nancy showed up.
GREAT choice to react to! Such an iconic song. Wish music was still music. I’m 29 and still find myself listening to America, Bread, CSN, Jim Croce, Genesis, Zeppelin, the Stones, Pink Floyd etc. There’s something so simple and innocent about music back then. Now it’s all about voice overs, the dancing, the wardrobes, politics etc. Besides a select few, all hope is pretty much gone in my opinion..

Imagine the pressure or performing at the close of a star-studded show in front of the three surviving Zeppelin members plus the president and first lady plus about a hundred other celebrities and dignitaries -- and then just knocking it out of the park!
And performing one of the most famous rock songs in history (if not the most famous). But yeah, ridiculous pressure I would imagine...and they killed it

The 2012 Kennedy Center Honors celebrated Dustin Hoffman, Natalia Makarova (ballerina & choreographer), David Letterman, Buddy Guy, and Led Zeppelin. The whole show is definitely worth watching.
The drummer is John Bonham son Jason. The Bowie hat he’s wearing and the choir behind him is tribute to his father because he often wore them.
Heart used to perform Zepplin songs when they toured. Anne was in mid 50s when she sang this. Wow!

Every year the Kennedy Center 'honors' a few different people, and Zeppelin was one of them that year (all of the people with the rainbow ribbons around their neck were honored). Heart was the last of 4 tribute bands to sing a Zeppelin song. The 'Bolo Hat' was the late John Bonham's signature look that his son Jason and the rest of the choir honored John with.
Oh yes. A song you just have to love. It just sounds amazing live.

Thanks guys, great reaction. Agree, my favorite version, They found this emotional because of John Bonham’s son Jason on drums. Jason currently plays with Sammy Hagar’s group The Circle, Heart loves Zeppelin, played Rock and Roll when I saw them in high school.
That was a very welcome interlude I have not seen before. I thought they nailed it without trying to do their own interpretation, so I think Robert Plant and Jimmy Page just really appreciated the fact Heart did it right, that's a real tribute. Really loved the minature guitar, as someone who used to make scale models in my wonder years I love the whole idea. It could be the start of a collection now - I know Jamel has a few framed and hung on the walls of his room and they look really good up there.

Ann is a great singer. If you want to hear what might be her best live vocal performance every check youtube for Heart's performance of Unchained Melody (not necessarily as a reaction video, but just to hear how incredible she sounds). It was recorded around 1980 I believe and it's incredible.

Ann and Nancy met the boys (Led Zeppelin) at a concert in Canada many, many years ago. They've been friends ever since.
The Kennedy Center Honors is a cultural awards ceremony for many artistic disciplines.
Well I had a feeling this was going to be a good performance, and it was superb. Didn't know the remaining band members would be watching though. Seeing their reactions was priceless. What an awesome cover .. absolute Goat!! Plant really was emotionally moved esp once he noticed Jason Bonham playing his Dad's drums here .. best tribute ever! Plus the choir & Jason all wore black bowler hats in honor of the late John Bonham. Page was ecstatic .. Plant, Page & Jones were full of smiles. Afterwards they went back stage, found "Heart" & told them what a beautiful job they did. I think that speaks volumes!

As Ann Wilson is singing the last line of the song they cut to the drummer (Jason Bonham, son of the late John Bonham) as he gives a little glance skyward just as Ann gets to the final heaven". Tugs at my heartstrings every time. The symbol on the bass drum head is the symbol John chose to represent him on "the untitled fourth album".

If you guys want to hear Heart perform another amazing Led Zeppelin song, find their version of Kashmir live. They toured with Jason Bonham son of original Zeppelin drummer John Bonham after the Kennedy Centre Honours show. No one but Ann Wilson of Heart should be allowed to cover Zeppelin songs. She just killed it, she is like a female Robert Plant. Watch it, you won’t regret it.

You are correct. The Kennedy Center Honors are held each year and taped to usually be shown in December. Sitting Presidents (Donald Trump chose not to appear at any of these awards shows while he was in the White House) usually will be in attendance as well as other dignitaries and celebrities and of course, the honorees.
This performance gives me chills. Your reaction is topped only by the reaction of the surviving members of Zep themselves.

Heart killed this. Amazing cover. BTW what is your problem with Robert Plant? He is one of the top lead singers in rock history. Supremely talented. Zeppelin would not be the greatest band of all time without him.

Well, if Zeppelin had a full orchestra and choir, I bet they could do it even better, I don’t know how if you watch the MSG1973 live performance. 4 guys makings it sound like much much more.
It's not really Heart doing it. It's only Ann and Nancy from Heart, not the whole band. When this was initially done it was branded "Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart" and at some point it got turned into being a Heart production. The Kennedy Center put it together and asked Ann and Nancy to participate. The drummer was Jason Bonham, son of Zeppelin's deceased drummer John Bonham. I guess to the point, Ann Wilson is an incredible singer, and I know people who have never given Heart the time of day who went out and bought most of their catalog after seeing her performance here. It really is done well, but it isn't the Heart band and it wasn't created or produced by Heart. The Kennedy Center wanted to find a killer vocalist and Jason Bonham demanded they get someone who loves and appreciates Led Zeppelin so the obvious answer was Ann and Nancy.
Thinking about how good Ann Wilson is maybe you could do a poll of great female singers?
