I work on the railway myself, everywhere I see the scars of a railway which was far more than it is now. At Macmine there's still a buffers buried there and you can just about make out where the island platform was. I'm lucky enough to know a driver who drove the Macmine to Waterford line, said it was one of the most scenic lines.
@@kilkennyinpictures Maybe if the line was expanded something could be done. While it might have been needed to do something considering the station might have not been in the best condition but surely extensive refurbishment is cheaper than building anew with all the consultancy fees of Celtic Tiger Ireland.
@@oscarosullivan4513 Again I don't get it. There was a line that extended into Carlow from New Ross, a de-facto extension of possibilities. The freight element of Waterford to New Ross only stopped in 1995. Given the level of traffic into the city, the expansion of Belview Port, Glanbia etc. a bit of vision and forward planning for the line might have gone a long way. Sadly as a country I don't think we do either.
Hi Oliver, just passed Dunmore the line split, the main branch when on through Ballyragget, Attanagh, Abbeyleix etc. to Portlaoise. The other branch went to Castlecomer and on to the mines at Deerpark. There are a few images here th-cam.com/video/qvfirSpANfc/w-d-xo.html
Great to see this historical news about this stretch of railway 🛤

Brilliant documentary, so informative and very interesting history of the area in days gone by ✍️
Thank you Christine, glad you enjoyed it. Paul & Kathleen did an excellent job to preserve this history.
Looking forward to that In a big way please keep us posted about it
Will do my best John.
@@kilkennyinpictures I saw the old station in Kilkenny shocking state of repair
@@oscarosullivan4513 Indeed, just left to fall apart, shameful really.
