Thank you for doing this one Jeremy. I played Bossa with Brazilian musicians for 7 years. Unforgiving, demanding but very rewarding. They expect you to get the groove right and yes, Jobim’s voice leading. Brazilian music is soooo rich and ultra inventive. Jobim, Gismonti, Villa Lobos, Azebedo, Pixinguinha
I saw Astrud at Kuumbwa in Santa Cruz Ca. back in the early 90s (?). Tiny place. Her son was running the band. When she came out on stage I had this strange feeling wash over me - strange emotional feeling. I thought: what is going on? Sometime later I realized: heh, so that is what star struck feels like. First and only time. I still get a bit choked up thinking about it. She was terriffic. And the band.
@@andyquinn1125 I am quite envious of your experience, I didn’t get the opportunity to see her live. I do own some of her artwork though, never to be sold. RIP Astrud “Oh how lovely” you were.
Very nice lesson. Surdo. Sing: "gah-dih, gah-DAA, gah-dih, gah-DAA". Trap set player approximates this on the kick drum. Bass will never go wrong playing half notes (piano and guitar too).

Yes, it’s such a rich musical tradition.
thank you for this beautiful lesson Jeremy
Astrud was the true voice of Bossa Nova. Excellent, thank you.

Great topic, helpful video
Hey Jeremy!! It's always a good day when you post.

There’s no better way to begin the day with your vid and the sunny music of João Gilberto. Thanks!
Gilbertos are cool😎... Look forward to getting home to try out those ideas...
The most important rule of all: no montunos in Bossa Nova! ;)
