I'm new to this channel but have a production background which leads me to one conclusion......I LOVE HER!
The black foam board above the camera is a great idea. I love it. I love her. I love this channel. Thank you
Oh my gosh!!!! Are you serious Joanie. I never even noticed that it would make such a huge difference. I love it. Can't wait to do this
Right?! So bananas!
Isn’t it amazing how these little changes can make such an impact?? You know I’m all about those shadows and this is SUCH a great tip. You are such a wealth of knowledge Joanie. Always so thankful for you!
I love that you pointed out that at the end of the day it’s about our taste. This year I realized sometimes a photo is not technically perfect but it evokes so many emotions.
I love this photo btw!
Nice tip on the overhead black foam core!
This is a whole course on food photography!! Thaanks so much!!
The way how simple you explain the process and techniques makes it easier for me to understand photography. Looking forward to try this to my mechanical keyboard picture :) Thank you!
Awesome!! Thanks for the hack
Thanks for the tips. I have never flagged my ceiling. Wow. Thanks for the great info.
So glad to share!
Great trick when you have a lot of ambient light, Thank you.
Your work is so beautiful and so so helpfull, I'm learning a lot from your videos, and have to say to you how gratefull I am. This tip is awesome, it really opens my eyes to ALL of the light in my scene.
Made a stunning shot out of a simple comforting soup! Love it Joanie!💜👍
I love this natural prop lower right corner at 11:43
Awesome and super easy. Thanks!!
You are always so helpful in sharing your knowledge.
I'm heeeeeere and I love this one! I needed it
Thank you for being so generous with everything you know. I *always* learn something! Cannot wait for the new book.
It's always a great learning to watch your BTS videos , it's not only the technical stuff but the thought process that you explain makes it more interesting. So the bottom line is ..learn to 'see' the light and do whatever heck you want to do to shape it the way you want ...👍
From my working with restaurants, I find the most safe lighting set up is to create very soft, very little shadow, high key type photo. Usually client is happy with that. But to my taste I am like you, like more shadow, moody feeling photo.
Joanie!! I am learning sooo much from your videos! I never thought I would be interested in photography for food until my family started our EVOO company. I am just starting out taking photos with my smartphone. Thank you so much and I hope one day I can talk to in a video!! - From Ont, Canada 🙃❤️
So awesome to be able to provide photos for your company! All the best to you!
@@TheBiteShot Thank you, Joanie! I can't find the video that you talked about white backdrop. Would you be able to let me know which video or brand of white backdrop you would recommend? Please let me know!! Thanks :)
I love how meticulous you are in your setups. I CANNOT wait for your book to ship! Great video!
Thank you so much! All the details :)
So true, I can listen to her all day long! So detailed!
What book? There's a book?
@@keithshenkin3674 Joanie's book 'Picture Perfect Food' comes out in April & is available for pre-order.
Never thought I'd see a bottle of Nandos sauce in an American home!
This is brilliant! Thank you. There's so much to learn from you.
Great tip! I use flags a lot, but haven’t been flagging my ceiling. I have a tall studio ceiling, but I do think I’ll get that extra pop with this extra flag. I liked that ya walked us through props too. I took your artificial academy course. I would definitely be interested in a course from you on shooting for cookbooks or other editorial work. Looking forward to your book in spring, congrats!
Place a sheet of black foam core above your camera to stop the ceiling from bouncing light into your shot. Saved you 14 min
All I can say is that I want a bowl of that Delicious-Looking Soup😋🍲
Yes, how about linking to your recipes when you do these!
your videos are just amazing, so in love with your art!
You are so talented! 😍
I'm trying to do my best on my videos but I am definitely not a food photographer! haha 😍
Keep at it! Amazing how much can change in a year!
Wow you're amazing! You think about every detail. You give one of the best knowledge about food photography. Thank you
Brilliant, as always! Thanks for sharing gold nuggets, all the time! 🙂
I just stumbled across channel and really enjoyed this video. You have a great presence in your video and do a great job explaining some of the intricate details of your thought process. Although I don't do too much food photography (yet), I will be trying out some of your lighting techniques in some of my still life shooting.
Thanks so much Rob! Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow that's a great trick, thank you! It makes a huge difference 🙌🏻
Terrific tip, delicious video. I guess you're always shooting your food cold (unless you want steam)?
I'm gonna try this next time! Thanks for the tip Joanie! :)
brilliant!!!
Great video as usual. And I have that same napkin - i love it! HA!
I remember buying them thinking, "really Joanie, you're going to spend that on a napkin?" but based on how much I use them I count it a win :) lol
Thank you for so thoroughly explaining your process. This is so helpful!
Is your dog an Aussie? He's beautiful. Thanks for the lesson, I spend WAY too much time in Photoshop and this helps me understand the way light behaves.
He is! Bruce is a Mini Aussie...my best studio buddy
Thank you so much for the tips!
Great video as always!
I'm not first..😘
I'm not last...🤗
But when I get notification...i clicked fast 💓💓
I'm here to watch this video as i started a YT CHANNEL yesterday and my family laughed at me saying it will fail terribly. That i won't get subscribers. After this video I'll prove them wrong
Really interesting to see theory in practise. More like this please.
Oh, and that soup looks pretty darn good too. 😁
You're the best for suurre
Thank you for sharing, Joanie,
Love so much all of your videos, it helped me to progress, thank you !
Hi Joanie, the black foam core hack is sucn an easy and effective method to give your photos a contrasty snap! I use Rosco E-Colour #216 White Diffusion for my studio photography. Do you have a favorite diffusion material for your photography? Keep up the good work. I've been enjoying your channel for quite some time now!
Thank you ! ❤️
omg joanie!! I have to try this! Thanks for your amazing content!
Amazing !
Great tip...Thank you!
Love this
Chapters would be appreciated for us who wanna get right to it. Thanks for the vid 🙏🏾
My Mom had a set of good dishes and linens no one was ever allowed to use it was for company.
I can hear it now "Don't touch that, that is my for my Photo shoot" 😁
Just bought a whole set of that Wilder line from Crate & Barrel 😂
it's sooooo pretty! same same
When lightening chapter starts ?
Always so helpful! Thanks Joanie. A question, was the godox the only point of light you used?
Great little tip. Thanks!
How can one take a shot from above Luke that without a c stand to hold the camera? Is it possible to do it by holding the camera?
Thanks so much for this video! Love It! 😍 Can't wait for your book! On Amazon I only found It in pre-order, delivery in April 2021. Is it available somewhere else before that date?
Awesome! April 20th is the official publish date of the book so that's the first it will be available from any retailer.
Youre in Arizona?! Me too, that's awesome. I had no idea!
Very useful info
I think this is an overlooked detail but there's a cute dog over there in the corner for a second
That’s Bruce 🐶❤️
wow! So strange, I bought some bowls just like this recently! but from a chain shop in the UK haha
Nice!!
Joanie, great video as always! Thanks. Just curious, how different is the effect you get from the Roscoe diffusion material vs. something like the Wescott diffusion fabric (like this one: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1186537-REG/westcott_1915_scrim_jim_cine_1_2_stop.html). Do you feel it is worthwhile having both in your tool kit?
I heard the talking method of @pixperfect
🌹
Nice Job Bro' #nadeemvlogs
Me as a noob feeling supeeeer because I've just tried that out a couple of weeks ago and creates such interesting shadows!😍
Take a look: instagram.com/p/CHk4UOBnxHq/
Great video Joanie! 😍
This video could have been 1 minute long ....
A 13mins long video just to tell to put a black backdrop over the camera? nice informative video but thumbs down to this!
horrible tutorial show your working
8 minutes to get to the point of the video!
Boy.... You talk ALOT 😏
Your video is over-comnercialized. Not only do we have to endure unskippable ads just to watch your video, but you have to mention your sponsors at the start of the video and then again for each and every item you use in your shoot. It’s worse than hearing nails on chalkboard!
Ads are how Joanie is able to provide her knowledge to you for free. She needs to pay her bills too! And many people want to know where the props are from.
Not sure why you watched it, then. No one is forcing you to do it.
