Hunched posture and hearing mom say "stand up straight" was a big theme of my childhood, and I struggle with it to this day. Never would have occurred to me it was trauma, another hallmark of my childhood. Thank you!!

Her mother was a particular source of her personal trauma, so this was more likely a physical manifestation of trauma endured from years of mistreatment and Trauma Recovery now has started to see the correlation between the posture and trauma. Funny coincidence in this case that her mother would comment on her posture that I find fascinating as well. How well meaning comments or direction from authority figures who have abused us become actual places we start to lose connection to

My therapist has been able to show me how much physical pain I carry from anxiety and trauma to the point I thought I had chrohns disease and underwent several procedures to check and all found nothing! What helped you with stomach issues?

    • @2015fit
      @2015fit 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

S A to be entirely honest just being aware that my anxiety and mental state effects my stomach helped. In moments where I feel sick again I will stop and ask myself “if I could be laying in bed rn would I feel sick?” And I for a second feel relaxed at just the thought of being in bed and I know it’s anxiety or stress and I can talk myself down. Also continuing therapy w this awareness and taking note of when it happens to identify life stressors and triggers to prevent all this

    lots arises in me
    as I watch this video.
    mainly this:
    I'm falling,
    again, for another
    unavailable person...
because the illusion and fantasy and escape
of this person, is all I've got...
    so I let myself fall.
    let myself get attached.
    because I'm old now,
and the deepest shame and agony
of my life, is that I've never-ever been
    in an intimate-romantic relationship...
and the reality of this anguishes me, consumes me.
fills me with: grief, shame, rage, longing, loneliness, despair,
    wanting, needing, desperation...
so I cling, achingly, to anyone
    that shows me: any attention...

Working on my trauma body without even knowing it until watching this video! Every morning, I add drops of essential oils in my palms, take a deep riff of them, reach up high and exhale all the way down to my toes. Whatever is on my palms, I’ll gently rub on my throat where my thyroid is too. I really feel the difference and it helps me take on my stressful job each day! Thank you again for an educating/empowering video. The symptoms of trauma ive had starting in childhood are hunched posture, IBS, focus issues, & a also having a difficult time breathing/trying to catch my breath. I remember my mom taking me to the doctor 8th grade because of this due to the breathing issues. Today i know it was a symptom of the chaos going on in the home & my body responding. I cant tell you how much i appreciate you as your work is part of my healing journey.

3 years to remove it the physical pain was brutal as it left. Was hit with another trauma that uprooted a childhood trauma early in my recovery which sent my body into near shutdown. If I was not a medical professional I would be on a list of meds. I am on no medications and rarely take meds as they cause too many side effects for me. Pooping normal is amazing! Happy and healthy again after years of healing work as a full time job with over time. No debilitating physical pain and my overall energy to be active is returning. Thank you for creating and sharing your videos. If not for you and others like you so many would not be taking back their lives. A priceless gift to humanity! This is 100% true.
I’ve worked on this for years and its true, it’s ongoing.
Stresses always exist and after much time with this work, it isn’t the killer to me that it once was.
I am now able to recognize stressors much more quickly than in the past and I can use these various methods that you teach, to calm down more quickly.
It’s been in tandem with my morality. What I mean is that I remember who I am at these times. It slows down the fear, loss and anger etc so I’m no longer overcome and acting from the pains of the past, which lead me to trigger and just react.
Another thing that has been a huge part of my recovery is asking “Who really am I and and what do I REALLY want?” Who I AM does not LIKE to behave rashly or angrily. I’m guided by bible principles which, among other things, show the beauty, health and wisdom in a calm heart.

I didn't even realize how hunched my posture was until i started horseback riding lessons, it took 2 and a half to 3 years of almost daily yoga to get my shoulders back and down, and i am still building my core and the postural chain of my glutes and back muscles, it's insane how much better i feel in my body, i recommend yoga/pilates- Yoga with Adrienne shout out, hey!
She got me started, I still follow her videos, Yoga for Equestrians is great for posture, that one helped me more than any other!
Also the one for the Psoas, but that's more for my wonky lower leg, haha...
Any yoga is good for you, i am a skeptic about many things and i wrote it off for so long, but just being grounded in your body can make a huge difference, i truly can't recommend it enough!

Was watching a random medical vlog and someone was using a foam roller for their back. That seems like a good one for alot of people to try. Personal massagers are another. If possible, clear out a space around you to do whatever you need to do and keep the space devoted just like you keep your bed or desk or kitchen table devoted (if you do) and If you have someone to help with a physical exercise or therapy, that can be good. There are alot of exercises or methods depending on what bodily stress they are going through. I think it’s important to pay attention to responses we might need and lookout for methods that may address our needs. It’s kind of an issue that people don’t always know how to find solutions, so sharing helps.

I deal with chronic migraines. I recall when they started 4 years ago. I’d done some pretty awful things to my partner and it was hard for me to face some of those truths that I would have taken to the grave. Along with that, throughout life I’ve dealt with fair shares of trauma that were inflicted from my upbringing.
These migraines are especially spiked during my menstrual cycle and by elevated stress levels. I feel like 4 years ago my body just hit a tipping point. No longer able to deal with more trauma.
I’ve tried everything to heal from migraines. At this point, I’m willing to try these techniques. Perhaps incorporate some yoga and breathing a few times a week. I know that it will take time but it’s worth a shot. I want to heal my mind and body so badly.

It helps me take the judgement out of the journey and feel into it to bring more healing on a body level. Also, about posture, Dr. Christine Northrup says that good posture is lifting the breastbone up. She also says to spread out your arms and elongate the arms and spine... Essentially letting your heart be lifted upwards. She even mentions that she grew an inch or so after regular practice. (I hear this on her website on an audio offering.) An interesting thought-- my *intense* struggles with mental health started around age 13/14, (though I definitely had struggles beforehand). Interestingly enough, I was diagnosed with scoliosis at 14, which has progressed in severity side by side with my mental health. Now, the scoliosis could be genetic. BUT I think there's merit in examining the mind/body connection. Its a real thing. Thank you for this video! You always teach me SO MUCH. ❤️

Yup! I’ve noticed the correlation too. I have scoliosis and have been thinking for past few years that many people have it and it’s not genetic. It’s from trauma in the body and faulty posture and tensing the muscles and being in fight or flight mode. All intertwined with our mental health from the toxic environment. I recall a doctor talking about this on one website where he started studying the background of his patients and found the parents were over controlling and emotionally abusive. When separated the kids would stand up straight and naturally fix posture. As soon as that parent was back the teens were hunching and tensing.

I heard “Sit up straight” or “Stand up straight” all the time from my Mom as a kid, and now in my mid-50s I am still hearing it all the time from my wife.

Great video 🥰. Definitely going to try some yoga out. And I was totally triggered with the hunched back... i heard that alot growing up. Now I use a back support brace and see a chiropractor (on top of dealing with my traumas with a counselor). Have a great weekend 💙

Being numb in my body because of trauma is what lead to me overeating and subsequently gaining weight. I remember being confused because I seemingly kept gaining weight without feeling a difference in my eating routine or body but that’s because I was so disconnected from my body that I couldn’t feel when I was full when I ate or how the fast food I was eating every day made me feel nauseous. I started doing breath work a week ago and now I am feeling full/my stomach stretch when I eat too much. I am back connected with my body and I can feel again.

Weird!! In a different video you were saying to check up on your body, and my reaction was, “But I get headaches…why would I want to tune into that?” - but at some point yesterday or today, I also started wondering if my headaches were mental health related because it’s not hunger, thirst, sleep, sunlight, etc…and so maybe it’s mental health…then I woke up from a nap to this intro…and headaches is at the top of the list. Lovely…😂 So…why??

I think so. I have the same experience (unexplainable fatigue) from time to time. I think we can be depressed too and not realise.
