Oh I love smoked salmon! Great job guys! Love the door! 3 watt usage with a cold smoker sounds terrific. Looked like the weather held up most the build👍 Metal roofs hold up to time. And I love a great barter system💯 Cute puppers Robert & Sarah❣️
I am torn with the salmon. I love it as. Fillet and cooked on the stove. BUT OMG the smoked and canned salmon is amazing. We love to find ways to keep it as efficient as we can up here.
I forgot to introduce myself from Ontario, Canada. Indigenous, it was very nice to meet . you guys. It's nice to us older people out there. Showing the young we are not old enough to be living in Alaska. You guys are living my Dream. Take care ❤.
Hello and welcome. Never to old to live out here IF you do things the right way. You have to think about everything you do and what could happen. We take everything slowly and think about it before hand to stay safe. We have friends in the 80+ years age bracket out here and they are doing amazing. Thanks for watching
Nice job ! My grandparents lived through the depression and WW2 rationing. I was taught to take care of things, repurpose what you can and learn how to fix most household and mechanical devices. I’d say being so isolated , you have perfected being resourceful .
I have always tried to be as resourceful as possible. Growing up on the farm we always did things to preserve or make things work. Thank you for stopping by.
@@curmudgeinnak my parents smoked a lot of meats and fish and I grew up with so much tasty smoked hams and sausages and all sorts, I like smoked chicken most😀and sausages smoked too, fish too, everything 🤣
@@curmudgeinnak yes I will be reaching anchorage on 16th August night morning of 17th. Will be there for three nights then two nights in talkeetna and four nights in Fairbanks. Would like to invite you and ACTC for lunch or dinner at your choice of restaurant. I will email you my phone number. Let me know if you can. God bless.
wow, that would be fun. I will let ACTC know as well. I know they have a caribou hunt coming up and not sure of the dates. I will find out. We are looking forward to it.
Great lookin' smoker. Love the natural look. You've got an awesome helper too! Barb thought there was a Bear in the background. But it was only Sarah in a black coat. 🤣🤣We did see that you were packin' a sidearm.😂😂You had some great music that we were groovin' to. Barb just said to me while I was trying to type this out, " I sure miss those guys", and I totally agree! Those were some threatening skies in the background. Take care and all the best.
Hey guys. So far it is working very well. Smoking Salmon later today so we can get it canned up and on the shelf. Hope you guys are doing good. I always have my sidearm. We have to many bears up here.
I have a very big smoker it's metal and it used to be electrical box industrial one but if I was to have a smoker going in the summer I would have the fire department here because now that I'm in the city limits you're not allowed to have a fire can't even cook a Wiener over at a little campfire did that for years with the kids but now they won't even let you have a campfire and I know yet to which Alder wood cause it does not throw any sparks I find the government here is too stupid because they should outlaw burning any evergreens in the summer and all campgrounds should only be allowed to stalk up with leaf trees because they don't throw sparks but now that it's rained today I can probably light up my smokers think maybe I'll smoke a rabbit😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋
Wow, I never thought that they would regulate stuff like that. You should be able to use this kind of smoker as it is just smoldering. It does not put out much heat at all. Look into it. We are loving this one. I need to build a hot smoke attachment for it as I picked up some nice briskets the other day. Never tried smoked rabbit. We do not have many if any rabbits in our direct area.
You guys are so lucky to have rain we've only had rain twice this summer and today is one of them here on Vancouver Island Canada BC it was always knowing for lots of rain because we got lots of rainforests on the island but the past three years Have been so hot it's hard even to grow a garden I've had to put curtain shears over my garden and still it was too hot most of my stuff bolted tomatoes are finally starting to ripen I got enough for me to eat because I'm by myself oh sorry I forgot I got Chickens turkeys 2 And I raise rabbits for meat and even that's been bad this year it only managed to raise six rabbits because it's been too hot changing up my garden next year I did grow a lot of garlic though 250 and potatoes I can grow potatoes I haven't planted potatoes in the past two years but they keep coming up anyway because I leave the small ones in the ground I leave my potatoes in the ground all winter just cover them up with maple leaves and dig them up as I eat them and I only lost two potatoes so far for rotten remind you it only gets like minus 10 here
That is crazy that you are getting no rain. That area is part of the Temperate Rainforrest that runs up the coats. Are you getting a lot of sun with that heat? We have chickens for livestock. Sarah does not want to raise bunnies as she gets attached to them. Doing the potatoes that way is a good way to do it. No storage issues.
The smoker looks like its gonna work great
Worked great last night when I pre smoked a few steaks for dinner. tasted great. brining salmon now to smoke and then can.
