  • The log cabin is starting to take shape. I got the gables done, purlins on, and ridge beam installed. Next video I will carve out the door and windows and get a roof on it.

I’m an old man now but I used to do things such as this throughout my life and lament that I’m no longer able to do these things. The smell of the woods. The wood submitting to your will. The progress. And the earned nights rest due to a days honest and rewarding labors. Thank you sir for allowing me to participate in your project. Thank you. Thank you.

Kyle, I just watched the series and thought that you might consider a log end floor. Level the inside of the cabin and put down your barrier of choice. Then, cut log ends to 4 inches and placed on the floor until the area is covered. Like hockey pucks. Then, fill spaces with sand or dirt. If it shifts a little, it will not affect the cabin.

Wow! I worked with my dad when I was 13 building a 24’ by 24’ cabin in the woods just off Lake Huron near the tip of the thumb.of Michigan. Single wall construction. I was driving 16D spikes, coated roofing nails, shingles, glazing chalet glass, digging shallow well for water. I think I shocked my dad on what I was able to do. I was shocked. My mother only let me work 10 hours per day. In 2 weeks we were closed in. Still didn’t come close to how hard this man worked. At 75 I was worried about his safety and possible harm he was doing to his body that would catch up to him in his late 40s and 50s. My dad could work like that and as he got older he had many back, elbow, and shoulder problems. Slow down young man. Go huntin with your dog.

If folks back in the days can afford nails, I’m sure they’ll do the same way. Sometimes faster is necessary.

@@KYLESCABIN I think its brilliant. These logs are manageable. My father nearly died building the log house I grew up in lol. I think if you were to side this and sit it on piers it would last a lifetime. What I like about logs is the way they hold heat in the winter. I think if this had some sort of wind barrier outside it would be pretty efficient

My TH-cam name has changed Im one of your early subscribers. I told you id build a shed in my garden following your footprints. I got sick as soon as im better I'll build it. Determination is a strong driving force! Remember to be kind to your body! Don't macho it by lifting to much. Use block lifter and pulleys. You're body will thank you when you're 50!
