Although she didn't say much out of her mouth, her head nod and facial expressions let us all know she was and is VERY present with us and knows what's being said and what's going on! OMG, I'm almost 74, and I don't sleep at night. I'm afraid of darkness and keep lights on at all times. I believe it's a result of trauma I experienced as a child. Due to having diabetes, I am struggling to keep my eyesight and am undergoing numerous laser surgeries. The worse that could happen is the loss of my vision. I am encouraged by Mother Fletcher's story. That I could not like darkness, not sleep at night, and still live a long life. May God bless our elders. We must keep their story alive and never allow it to be forgotten. 😪

    My great-great-great-grandmother lived to be 103, and I knew her very well. Her mind was still sharp, she didn't wear glasses, she didn't have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, absolutely nothing. She told her son she was going to bed, when he woke up the next morning she had transitioned in her sleep. That's the true meaning of natural causes, and I don't care what no one else says. When you are older, have no health problems, and you go in your sleep, that's natural causes.

    This interview is hard evidence why Foundational Black Americans need reparations. Hearing their stories about what was taken away from them before they even had a starting chance was sad to hear. Being reminded what they had to live with and had to struggle through represents what Black America has been dealing with since America's inception. That repeated saying through the entire interview "what opportunities I could of had if Black Wall Street was never destroyed". As I learn about my family history, I start ask that same question, I joined the military for the same reasons as those men in the interview did. My life has been tremendously blessed but at the same time I still ask would it had been easier for me, if my ancestors were never oppressed? Just a thought.

    • @casualplaya3848
      @casualplaya3848 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately we’re not unified like the Asians, Jews, and whites. So only a select amount of us fight for reparations. The majority are adding into the “black crime” statistics. So they won’t take us seriously if we don’t even take ourselves that way (not speaking to you as an individual, but the majority in these Democratic Urban cities). We’re the only community that has a youth glorifying violence, hiding criminals with the no snitching rhetoric, and older generations are too afraid to step in and take the reigns. It’s really every man for himself.

    This is why I hate when people say that we act like victims. Every time we do something, it gets destroyed. We’re not victims, we’re just exhausted and feel defeated. If everything you try to do/build to progress in life gets destroyed by racists people, how would you not feel defeated? A lot of us still keep going but we’ve never been victims like people think we are. We still fight everyday.

I moved to Tulsa 5 years ago and in 2018 was the FIRST time America heard about the Tulsa Massacre. It is STILL very relevant today (its like the black people from here are scared to death...and I now understand why). Racism is still very real here but hopefully sharing this testimony will empower Americans to NEVER LET SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO EVER HAPPEN AGAIN!!!! 😢

    Wonderful interview! Very insightful & educational. My Grandmother is 85 & I ask questions all the time. I value her wisdom, history, & time spent with her. Our elders have endured a lot & deserve much respect for their journey traveled & sacrifices made. Blessings to All! ❤🙏❤

    Brazilian here… don’t intend to make this a white v black thing, but it’s amazing to me that white people can watch this and think systemic racism isn’t a thing… to think that white privilege isnt a thing.. nuts
    Nothing wrong with being white or being part of the majority but here we have to this day a living example of generational trauma, generational disadvantages. It’s not about solely what’s going on today.
    One governmental policy or action today can affect demographics for generations. Wont be fixed in a short period of time but the least we can do is acknowledge and agree on this obvious issue

    • @deejay5102
      @deejay5102 ปีที่แล้ว

      The U.S. govt. is obviously waiting these old victims out.....that' way they can say, "All of the ppl of Tusla who were victimized are dead so there is no need for compensating anyone." And like Chalamange said, it would open the gates for more events in recent history that happened to be fully addressed financially. America is one be hypocrisy and I am glad ppl across the globe like you can see it and call it out....

    103 years later she still has PTSD from the Tulsa Race Massacre 😢😢. Generational trauma passed down😢 they stole Generational Wealth and had to work as sharecroppers for white folks. That's so tragic 😢. I love their strength and powerful presence 🙌🏿👑
