did you have to mod the stock muzzle to allow a longer barrel to pass through?

Yes. The lip that holds the stock barrel I cut out with a hobby knife. To hold the barrel in, I put teflon tape on the barrel, insert it into the gate and wrap e tape around it with a dab of super glue on the tape. U can also just glue in the barrel for more permanence. At the front, put an o-ring over the barrel and push it into the front barrel recess of the shell. That will help center the barrel and lock it in.
