    Sometimes less is more. Take Knoebels. No central main entrance, no hub...its not really 'designed' at all. Its just sort of organically "there". Part of the charm is walking between the buildings and attractions, exploring it along the way. It also makes revisits more exciting as there is something else you discover that you probably missed the first time. Even if you've been there numerous times, you can get disoriented and not remember where something was because its layer upon layer upon layer. You NEED a map.

    A key to a parks success is the maintenance/service road access. Great parks have great ways to move workers, food, trash, mech ect. Bad parks are built randomly with no or limited service/maintenance road access. Leaving the only way to restock or move goods and services is the busy park midways pushed around by workers. Or hope you have enough storage for your island of a restaurant in the middle of the park. The greatest ones are disney, ie Epcot. Some that are poor or have very limited if any is Darien Lake. This could be a video on it's own, and why some great looking parks don't seem to grow as fast as others. Great video, Thanks for the content.

    honestly I think you just can't beat Disneys Hub layout for their two big castle parks in the US. It is just a perfect way to split all of the crowds.

    • @jacobo878
      @jacobo878 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel like Epcot has an amazing layout once they get the center part all built

    • @MattMcIrvin
      @MattMcIrvin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jacobo878 Epcot's problem is that walking around the World Showcase lagoon (which is currently the most live area of the park) can be a real slog. It's easy to get sort of stuck back there and never return to the front area until you leave.

    • @MattMcIrvin
      @MattMcIrvin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, Disney really got it right the first time. It's no wonder that the castle parks around the world all have variants of that.

    • @zacg_
      @zacg_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think EPCOT's layout is very aesthetically pleasing and it's easy to find your way around. The disadvantage of EPCOT is that you may have to walk a VERY long distance if you want to get to something on the opposite side of the park, particularly if you are in the World Show Case. In a certain way that's nice because it makes that area flow very well and it's quite the experience to slowly make your way through the World Show Case one pavilion at a time. But if you want to hop around the park a bit or you have a Fastpass (RIP Fastpass) that isn't conveniently close by then EPCOT can be a hassle. I think the castle parks and Animal Kingdom are a bit more convenient and straightforward.

    I visit two parks this pass summer Kings Island and Busch Gardens Tampa . I have to agree with you.Kings Island kills it.The park entrance into International Street with the Eiffel Tower is simply beautiful. Because of the layout you can easily ride the major coasters in a day. I also love the location of The Beast. Busch Gardens Tampa is a great park. But it can be confusing going from one ride to the next. However I like the location of Iron Gwazi.

    I haven't been to enough parks to make a good determination on this but when you were going down your list, Kings Island, my home park kept coming to my mind. Magic Kingdom as well, but think the thing that sets KI above MK is that with MK, you have to walk down the Main St to start your journey to the rides. With KI, you can head straight to Action Zone from the entrance by just walking to the left. No need to walk down Main St. I understand why Disney does this, but I think it puts them a step below KI.
    Also, I take exception to you leaving The Beast off your list of big rides. Just expand it from Big 4 to Big 5. lol
    The Bat was originally called Top Gun. I believe it was the first movie themed ride Paramount installed after purchasing KI. I remember when it first opened, the line would stretch the entire length of the walkway back to it.

    im from belgium. and for me the best theme park lay-out ive done is the one at Toverland. the only thing is that the entrance isnt really in the center off the park but it is beacause their going to expend en build into the left side off the park. the path layouts are just perfect, No death ends. rollercoasters are well spread out off the park (not in one area). Its really an nice park! if youre in the Netherlands defenetly visit toverland. And you will see why the lay-out is almost perfect.

    For me my favorite park layout is actually Six Flags Great Adventure. Very easy to do a large loop and hit every major attraction as almost every coaster is on the outskirts of the park. Little to no backtracking and the spacing between attractions is well done.

    • @kai_b1156
      @kai_b1156 ปีที่แล้ว

      While I loved the park the layout is awful. Everything’s in long dead ends, while it’s good to loop around it takes about 5 minutes to walk to green lantern/superman, then another 5 or so minutes to kingda ka, el toro and medusa with no rides in between, and then about 10 minutes to the other side of the park for nitro, Batman and jersey devil. Also it seemed the stations were far away, on all rides it was a LONG walk throughout the queue especially green lantern and superman. That really is the only complaint I have along with the locker thing and the location/transportation issues

    Kings Island, Kings Dominion, Carowinds and Canada's Wonderland were all built on a quasi-Disney model. That model of patron traffic, distribution and individual 'intuitive' choice for where the park guests wanted to start their ride experience was a well researched, tried and real-time human nature model from Disney, 20 to 30 years before any of these afore mentioned Parks opened. Basically, engineering models based on previously successful business plans.

    I used to work at Cedar Point and can definitely say that, while yes the walk from the main entrance to steel vengeance is roughly 30 minutes (at least for me), the magnum entrance almost negates that long walk. The length of the park is also why cedar point has rides that transport you from the front to the back (sky ride and cedar point railroad). I never found it that big a deal having to travel from the front to the back because of this, but on days where the park is beyond capacity I can definitely see the problem there. It would really help if they opened another frontier lift imo.

    What do you think of Six Flags Great America's layout. It's a loop so it isn't perfect but, especially since they painted a line on the ground going around the park, it is difficult to get lost and isn't that difficult to memorize. It's got a bit of a central hub too with the carousel and fountain and the rides do seem decently spaced out there.

    Canada’s Wonderland has a similar layout to KI and is pretty good overall! I think the only issue is that the mountain takes up what would be the “central hub” space, but manages the issue well by having a path looping all the way around it, creating a central loop as it were. We also have a big lagoon near the centre of the park, but it isn’t too difficult to navigate around either.

All of the attractions you can get to within like 5-6 minutes (Afterburn) and they actually have a second entrance by Afterburn (they don't use often anymore) but it it's there for busy weekend overflow so when it's open it's perfect. Agreed about KI. I like it because the paths are so wide, there's hardly any bottlenecking of crowds except maybe in the kids area. I kind of disagree about your CP comments though. The front entrance isn't great but the resort entrance by Magnum is great imo. The park layout isn't too bad if you enter from there and not the front entrance.
    Also wanted to mention that many parents prefer parks that have junior rides/kid attractions spread out so that their kids always have something to do while the adults can go on big rides. It's a bit of a bummer to have to walk all the way to a kids area to keep your children entertained at a park like KI.

    I think my home park, Canobie Lake Park, has a really good layout. It's spread out a bit along the shore of the lake, but the entrance is close to the middle of the side opposite the lake. The closest thing to a bad dead end is the Tall Timber Splash location at the far end of the Old Canobie section, and you'll notice that many people forget that slide even exists--but there are some other rides along the way. The two best coasters, the Yankee Cannonball and Untamed, have entrances pretty close to each other near the north end of the park, but the walk from the entrance isn't that long and the main midway will lead you there. Most of the park is well-connected, and I actually think it's nice that there's a good mixture of kiddie rides and thrill rides around the park, as well as a couple of larger kiddie areas. The one thing it lacks is an iconic hub, but it's got a lot of nicely themed food stands and such that can serve as landmarks. I guess you can see the Ferris Wheel and the Starblaster and Yankee Cannonball from some way away.

    You're supposed to leave to smoke at all Disney and Cedar Fair parks. Fine layouts trashed.

      The food made by the one I live closest to is terrible, but the one half an hour further away makes some of the best french fries I've ever eaten. The difference in quality between McDonald's locations is staggering
