that's why I stop drawing traditionally because I couldn't draw the other eye properly it took me forever and I can't help to draw heavy handed so I would mess up the picture because of all the harsh lines so I just draw digitally but I want to do both I'm learning how to draw lightly. Lots of practice I'm trying to draw everyday to improve on my techniques.
+HetaliaFan360 I suck at eyes, and hands, but I did learn a trick where you draw a slight rectangular prism/ square to make the spacing for the fingers then just round it out
Very lovely! :D Something that might help would be to move around the color wheel, such as instead of jumping from purple to pink, transition from purple, to a red-violet, to magenta, and so on into pink. It will help both the blending of the colors and to add dimension to the eye through the smoother use of a greater range of value.
Finally!! Someone who actually explains it very well and how they actually do it...thank you very much! I loved the eyes and the beautiful tones that you used...very nice and helpful.
Just wanted to say thank you for such a great tutorial! I am just starting out in coloured pencil (when I say just, I mean as of this morning!). It is great to see someone cover it from start to finish so thanks again!
Your tutorial really helped me out. I'm just now getting into shading my drawings and I've never really done shading before. This really helped me out not only with shading with the eyes but also the whole drawing. I've watched your other tutorials on skin shading and those have helped as well. Thanks SO much!!
The way you color is simply amazing. Don't worry about your voice either but i see you're in the Christmas spirit already lol. Draw your favorite chracter(s) in a Christmas like theme.
Thanks for putting together this tutorial! It's not to long, and think its great that you put down each color you used next to the eyes. Hope you'll do more vids like this
Omg how you color eyes is just amazing! I tried to color some of my manga artwork and thanks to this video it helped me very much! Please do continue to make videos!
I am actually deaf due to the farming machines of rural Brescia so could not actually hear Polaara's voice that is being so highly discussed! Though I have no doubt she has the vocal chords of an angel to match her excellent talents! Favoloso ancora una volta!
Awesome, I never realized the power of the white pencil! I saw your speed drawing of Mario and was freakin AMAZED at how smooth you got it! I thought maybe you used Gamsol and didn't show it in the video. Or a blending marker which I've used before, but using the pencil seems to have a better consistent look. Thanks for this video!
Your voice isn't bad at all, at least you sound your age, haha. I sound like a 10 year old -__-. And again, you share to the world your sorcery... and I still can't get anything remotely close to what yours looks like. Obviously I need more practice... or it's just sorcery, LOL. Btw, I was wondering what paper you use? So far, I haven't found any paper that can hold a lot of colored pencil layers.
Omg BitterSweetNitemarrreeeeeeeeeeee I just subscribed to you a few days ago and your drawings are *awesome* Just as awesome as polaara ' u ' (sorry for the random comment)
I love that you don't constantly say "this is just the way I do it, it's not the only way to do it" because I've watched a lot of other coloring tutorials and the artists are CONSTANTLY saying that. I KNOW IT'S NOT THE ONLY WAY TO DO IT! I understand saying it once but somewhere around 15 times in the span of one video makes me not want to watch it. I also like that you describe what you're doing and why.
When I finish coloring the iris and pupil I use a rich layer of black, like you did in the first three examples. The problem is I use a little to much black and ruin the vibrant colors I use in the iris. This video is very helpful and thank you for sharing. :D
Hey! I just realized that I have the same watercolor pencils as you! (Caran D'Ache) I used to go to Waldorf (middle school) and they provided them! Now I am a freshmen and I use them still! They're such great pencils.
Your drawing is so good, I like it : ) , The eye looks more live, actually, I have tried many style of manga eyes, but I never can make a good looking eyes like yours, then I see this video, I got so much practice, I think it's better now, and it thanks for you! ;)
I just wanted to say that was an amazing tutorial and I loved it, and I was wondering if you had tone one day if you could do a tutorial on how to draw the eye that was on the top left, I loved to look to that one and wanted to know how to do that one as well but still, awesome video and I learned a lot and lived it!!!
i hope youll answer (even tho im quite late ^^) but do you think i could manage that with a normal range of coloring pencils? because i dont really have money and im not even 18 yet (i will be soon) so i kinda still relay on my parents when it comes to buying stuff and well, they wont buy a set of pencils worth hunderts of euros for me ^^ im just constantly bugged bc i cant afford anything to really "start drawing" y'know? I own 5 copics bc i thought i might try them and now they just gather dust and then i have a set of 10 watercolours and like 20 colorpencils.... do you think i could work with this? i already drew and im better at sketching than i was a few years ago but at drawing im just aweful... im sorry this is reeeaally long and im also sorry if my english is bad but i would appreciate your help or answer :)
slothhere depends what kind of pencils , i started using cheap watercolour pencils from my local stationary store now i use better quality ones because i saved up. Honestly though u can learn the techniques with any kind of watercolour pencil and it can still look really good - normal pencils are harder to get the same effect since they don't blend as well.
polaara thats cool and really, thank you for the answer :D i own, as i said, like 20 colour pencils but they are watercoulours so i guess ill try to draw with them maybe one day ill be as good as you :D thanks again for the answer and have a great day (where i live its currently midnight so im not sure but i guess day is ok? if not then good night^^)
I really love how you did the blue one i like how the detail in the eye is different from the other i wish you would have done the video for the blue :( Fantastic job though
You are my inspiration! I ♥ you! Your drawings are amazing and talented and every time I see your drawings you make me want to keep advancing in my hobby as an artist! Thank you so much! Your such an inspiration!
omg thank you so much for sharing!! this is my waterloo when it comes to drawing faces and now i know some new techniques!! thank you again so much!! best tutorial evaah!!! XD
hmm i might give this a shot the eyes are the only thing i ever color previously i had been using ....oil pastels it gives a unique effect but not easy to use at all countless times i have screwed up a drawing because of it so thanks for the new technique
This tutorial was/is VERY useful… I learn a lot more new techniques from you so thank you😄! N I love your hatsune miku drawing… oh such beauty… you're a great artist thanks for helping me out!☺ I look forward to seeing more tutorials! 😃
Good thing that there's still people here in youtube coloring using colored pencils... I mean, because there are so many channels that always use copic markers as their coloring material... I want to have copic markers but it's very rare to buy and see it here in my country... Also I'm just a student, I can't order and afford those markers from the internet... So I'd rather use the as usual and simply colored pencils... It's really nice to see some people still using colored pencils here in youtube... Subscribed ❤ฅ'ω'ฅ
Glad to see another video of yours. I watched some of your work over a year ago and just stumbled upon this one. You give some of the best tutorials that I've seen and your work is superb. Thank you for sharing. I will ask: Am I right to assume you don't always want to color/shade in the same direction? It looked (during the fast forward parts) that you change direction (cross stitch sort of pattern) when you change colors to help fill in any missed spots. I know that certain shades need to be a certain direction, but do you change shading directions on certain shades or how do you decide when to change direction on the eye?
Okay, first. Your voice is amazing. I watch this video a lot just to listen to it. (It's weird but I'm a weird guy in general. :p ) Second, this helped me a lot! It was certainly a big change. :D
Is it just me or can you guys find the steadler club noris color pencil online???? I can't seem to find them :( So does anyone know where I can get them?
Soooo what if I'm cheap and only have Crayola, Rose Art, and Artist's Loft colored pencils? Can I use those or do I absolutely need Prismacolor pencils?
I use the pale peach rose art color pencil and the vermillion artist loft color pencil for the skin and its looks awsome, use vermillion as shading and blush first (dont draw too dark with this color) then use the pale peach to finish it
I have a set of prismacolor scholar pencils and have tried my hand at shading but not in the same way you have shown here. what i used for blending was a colorless blender pencil (PC1077 if that helps lol) from prismacolor as well. i didnt get the same look but maybe that is the tool i used not a white pencil? any tips you have would be lovely :)
this is such an awesome tutorial/walkthrough! thanks so much for the awesome tips and stuff!!!! all ill be doing now is drawing manga eyes XD thanks so much for this!!!
Quick question, what kinda music do you listen to when your drawing ? Cuz my teachers used instrumental music during class so we can draw better & relax
Your voice is awesome! I can see your channel doing really well, tutorials are really popular, try to upload more, I promise you'll be surprised at the subscribers you will earn! Good luck!
I'm just wondering about the white pencil, it isn't that big deal, I mean I can highlight in a different way or blend in a different, because I really need to know the purpose of the white color pencil.
is the white pencil that u use a different brand from the first few pink/purple colours that u used at the beginning? like does it hav a different texture?
Hello i really love your works and i will know what is the paper that you use for the draw with a watercolor and pencils colors thanks and continue like that
when it comes to blending just like you did , did you use water colors? or just the normal ones? cause I get really hesitate when I'm just done with the whole drawing for example and I'm just about color it .. like which one should I use at that point?

I usually get like 6 every time I go to my local stationary store, so that's not a problem ^^
It was great :D but just 1 question when are you supposed to use watercolor pencils and the regular ones for what do you use the diferent types of colors
A nice little tutorial. Btw your voice isn't too bad (though I feel the same way towards my audio, mainly negative emotions) Though is see that you haven't solved the problem with the full screen :D You sure you don't want some help?
the hardest part :
drawing the other eye to look same and symmetrical like the other one
I'm already a good artist who can actually draw good hands and I still can't draw the other eye well
+HetaliaFan360 that's why i usually sketch both eyes before adding details
that's why I stop drawing traditionally because I couldn't draw the other eye properly it took me forever and I can't help to draw heavy handed so I would mess up the picture because of all the harsh lines so I just draw digitally but I want to do both I'm learning how to draw lightly. Lots of practice I'm trying to draw everyday to improve on my techniques.
+NatsuLucy Dragneel EXACTLY! IT'S SO DIFFICULT ;-;
+HetaliaFan360 I suck at eyes, and hands, but I did learn a trick where you draw a slight rectangular prism/ square to make the spacing for the fingers then just round it out
I know this video is sort of old, but I looked so much at tutorials and this is one of the few 5 that have helped me EVER.
Check out the KNKL show, he works mostly digital, but I've learned a lot from his way of approaching art and color theory and such.
Lol, at 9:01 it looks like the eye is giving you a creepy sharp toothed grin xD
Prince Benjamin Omg it does x3
I noticed that too
Very lovely! :D

YAAAYYYY !!!
Polaara finally puts up a video, AND talks ! ^_^
My week is maaaade !
finally! i been looking all over youtube that would show me in detail how to blend THANK YOU !
Hope you'll do more vids like this
Thank you so much. Your voice is not as bad as you think. Honestly. :)
Omg how you color eyes is just amazing! I tried to color some of my manga artwork and thanks to this video it helped me very much! Please do continue to make videos!
i don't see why you thought your voice was bad, you sound perfectly fine to me!
And YAY!!!!! COLORED PENCIL TUTORIAL!!!!!!*cue confetti dropping down*
Omg thx so much and btw I love your voice it’s actually soothing😂
I am actually deaf due to the farming machines of rural Brescia so could not actually hear Polaara's voice that is being so highly discussed! Though I have no doubt she has the vocal chords of an angel to match her excellent talents! Favoloso ancora una volta!

Great techniques and tips! I don't necessarily do manga but, this will help with color blending all around. Thanks and beautiful work!
You are truly amazing at drawing and you inspire me to try to be almost as great as you at it!
devant249 I was thinking the exact same thing
I love the blue eye!
Can you do a hair tutorial pls
Your voice isn't bad at all, at least you sound your age, haha. I sound like a 10 year old -__-.
And again, you share to the world your sorcery... and I still can't get anything remotely close to what yours looks like. Obviously I need more practice... or it's just sorcery, LOL. Btw, I was wondering what paper you use? So far, I haven't found any paper that can hold a lot of colored pencil layers.
Same i cant get it to look like in the video. Pshhh so hard
Tenchu you need stronger paper
Omg BitterSweetNitemarrreeeeeeeeeeee
I just subscribed to you a few days ago and your drawings are *awesome*
Just as awesome as polaara ' u '
(sorry for the random comment)
Haha R u realy a ten year old Girl?
Johann Samson Haha, nah. I'm actually on the brink of turning 17
I love that you don't constantly say "this is just the way I do it, it's not the only way to do it" because I've watched a lot of other coloring tutorials and the artists are CONSTANTLY saying that. can you tell me what kind of paper you used in this video ?
my sister is an artist and she really loves this because she is an anime artist. And, she can draw all types of manga or anime arts, AND I LOVE IT!!!
It's useful! Thx I'm gonna improve so much
holy cow the eyes shine like if they're real! amazing job!
When I finish coloring the iris and pupil I use a rich layer of black, like you did in the first three examples. The problem is I use a little to much black and ruin the vibrant colors I use in the iris. This video is very helpful and thank you for sharing. :D

Man... I never thought that drawing eyes was so complex... Im mind blown
I like your voice. It's pretty.

It's usually the best artists who can use anything (within reason). Like what was said in this video, its all practice :D
+slothhere good luck
My friend draws like this and she uses crayola or whatever lol and really anything can be drawn like this it takes time and practice :)
Note to self: Use white colored pencil to blend. Then add extra layer of that first color on top to keep it from being too white.
Yay :D This was awesome, it was really helpful ^^ It'd be nice if you could do more tutorials like this in the future like for skin and stuff :D
Not only was this helpful but this helped me how to plan out and colour other stuff as well :> thanks!
I watched you for the first time and I think you are really good at drawing. It's really helpful your great :)
no problem with your voice at all polaara! =D very nice tutorial! keep it up! =D
I really love how you did the blue one i like how the detail in the eye is different from the other i wish you would have done the video for the blue :( Fantastic job though

carran d'ache
I see you are using caran d'ache colored pencils, what set did you get? the 120 or maybe the 80 set?
Quick question, what kinda music do you listen to when your drawing ? Cuz my teachers used instrumental music during class so we can draw better & relax
really good tutorial! :D love your accent, british is so beautiful :3 good work!
Your voice is awesome! I can see your channel doing really well, tutorials are really popular, try to upload more, I promise you'll be surprised at the subscribers you will earn! Good luck!
This tutorial was very helpful ^_^ you should do more videos like this :) have you ever tried using white gel pens?
the blue eye is my favorite :D so awesome
I'm just wondering about the white pencil, it isn't that big deal, I mean I can highlight in a different way or blend in a different, because I really need to know the purpose of the white color pencil.
is the white pencil that u use a different brand from the first few pink/purple colours that u used at the beginning? like does it hav a different texture?
You've explained it amazingly! So easy to follow :)
So what if I'm not drawing a big eye? What if I'm coloring a full character? Do I still need all those colors?
Very truly helpful Ty!!!!! You've expanded my creativity :D
Finally your voice! I love your voice
I have a question: Do you ever use copics? And if you do, do you use Ciao, Sketch or both?
Is it me or did the purple eye look like a one eyed monster
Thank you very much. Can you please make a tutorial about lighting and shadows? Thank you
Your drawings are amazing
Could you please tell me what paper you use
Also colouring pencils
polaara you use staedtler noris club coloring pencils water? 36 colors are?
who would ever dislike this?
Hello i really love your works and i will know what is the paper that you use for the draw with a watercolor and pencils colors thanks and continue like that
when it comes to blending just like you did , did you use water colors? or just the normal ones? cause I get really hesitate when I'm just done with the whole drawing for example and I'm just about color it .. like which one should I use at that point?
Your now one of my fave artist
What brand color penils do you use, are they all the same brand or different brands and for the eyelashes do you use a marker/pen or color pencils
Finally found your channel again. I watched you way before I had a TH-cam account
very cool!! i do eye's the same way, but i loved watching you!!
The first thing I noted was how lovely your voice sounded. Thanks for the Tutorial :).
Cheers
Jazz.
You are amazingly talented and this was super helpful
May I ask?
Is it possible to achieve that kind of effect while using only few colour pencils? What I mean is only few shades.
i'm so depressed, I used to love my art, but now i don't know what to do i cant draw, i cant sketch, i cant paint, it feels like everything that i could do has just disappeared. My girlfriend is such an amazing artist, and it bums me out cuz everything thing i draw turns out crappy. my comment picture is something i drew about a year ago. ive no idea what to do.
don't put yourself down.
maybe take a break and travel to places that inspire you, and never compare your work to the work of others, only to your old drawings.
+Vanessa Dohr its just really frustrating. through everything ive been through, through my depression ive always had my art, but now im just at a loss.
To make yourself feel better, go look at the art you created years ago and compare it to your art now, if you're not satisfied with your improvement then start doing art exercises and studies, always make something like a sketch about everyday, it doesn't have to be a masterpiece, I looked at my art and didn't like how it looked so I practiced, got myself to binge doodle, and kept sketching until I gotten a fuck ton better, you can start by practicing anatomy because I started getting a whole lot better after doing anatomy practice
Very pretty! Are those Prismacolor Verithin pencils? I use regular Prismacolors for my sketches/doodles, it does feel like you need as many varieties of one color to get the blending to look smooth, but they're super-affordable! I usually get like 6 every time I go to my local stationary store, so that's not a problem ^^
The blue eye is so pretty
Awesome tutorial! I love your coloration *.*
Thanks! Your picture of an eye looks great and the video helped a lot!😃
It was great :D but just 1 question when are you supposed to use watercolor pencils and the regular ones for what do you use the diferent types of colors
well that was done entirely with water color pencils , normal pencils i always use at the end as they dont blend as well
polaara ohhhh :O thanks for answering n.n
A nice little tutorial. Btw your voice isn't too bad (though I feel the same way towards my audio, mainly negative emotions) Though is see that you haven't solved the problem with the full screen :D You sure you don't want some help?
Pretty. :3
Thanks for the advice; I can finally use my white for something! XD
This was so helpful. I love your technique. Thank you so much.
Can I use Crayola Colored Pencils to color manga? I know Crayola is very popular and well recommended for artwork by many, but is it good for manga?
what kinds of pencils do u use?
