    So I have a late 60's early 70's American Archery Cheetah. I got a new string for it and was going to start shooting it. Limbs are straight, it just looks "rough". I started a search for a new bow and as much archery information as I can absorb. I learned a cluster of new information from you, I hadn't read/watched anywhere else! Good Lord willing I hope you keep making these videos. Thank you very much.

    Good simple info. I also did not know the history of Samick. Pretty cool. I have a 30# I have been learning with. 55# would definitely get me in the deer woods. Thanks for the video!

    Thanks for sharing this video. I'm waiting for my Sage to arrive in the mail. I bought it to start learning archery with my 12 year old son. I got a 30# so he can use it also. I am looking forward to learning traditional archery and teaching my son to enjoy doing hard things. God bless you.

    I hunt whitetails with a compound bow a lot but I want to get into traditional archery. I started watching reviews on the Samick Sage and other starter bows recently, and I stumbled on your channel by doing so. If I won the bow I would be thrilled and shoot it all the time with the goal of becoming proficient enough to take a deer with it this fall!

    Great follow-up to the first video. One thing that I did to my Sage was throw away those ugly thumb screws and made a pair of aluminum counter sunk washers. I replaced the thumb screws with Flathead Socket Cap Screws. It really improved the look of the bow.

    Hi, Ty. I'm just getting back into shooting and hunting with recurves (after a layoff of 50 years!), but all your "tweaks" seem like very good ones to me. And, as a longtime amateur boat builder,/repairer, I think our observation about the potential weakness of the sharp (90-degree) angle where the cut-away sight window meets the arrow shelf is dead-on. Thanks for sharing, Chris

    A lot of great tips in this video. Agree on the string brother, first thing to go. Nice sand and cleanup of the riser. All around great content my friend. I need to try the cat whiskers. I generally use plain old yarn and it does well. I also never thought about wrapping yarn around the end servings. That's a genius idea.
    Good luck on your giveaway my friend. I guess I'd do the simplest thing with it, go shoot and enjoy. Have a great day my friend. Respectfully

    I definitely found this video useful and I will work on improving my bow. I have shot a 35 pound Black Hunter recurve for some time now, but it is not enough poundage to go hunting or for tournaments. This Sage is a beautiful bow and it would be nice to move forward from a 35 to a 55 pound bow.

    i would love to get this bow. Im a student who has been doing archery for a few years now. i always shot around 35-40# and would love to get a bow with higher poundage to shoot more 3D courses, I know I can shoot a higher as i have shot my friends bow (a 55# bow aswell) a few times and loved it!. unfortunately i dont have the money to just spent it on a bow as i am a student and i need the money to pay for my college. I would use it for training, but also so i can go to 3D courses and do 3D and field competitions with my friends.
    But either way i loved ur video and look forward to the next one!

      I’ve been using Campbell’s krystal for a few years now and really like it. It’s only 15 minutes between coats and holds up well. There are some other products that I want to try. Thunderbird and Buffalo hide are a couple in haven’t used but really like it on the bows I’ve looked at with it. It’s harder to use from what I understand and takes 3 days to dry

    The harmonics of the string are located exactly at the middle of the two parts of the string, created from your nock point placement.
    These two spots are the secondary harmonics since the primary harmonic of the bowsring is exactly at the middle.
    So this is the place that your preferred silencers- antivibe cat whiskers should be placed for best results. The way I put them though is trough the string, by untwisting and once placed twisted again, to achieve the brace height that the bow behaves better.
    I think from what I saw on your video you are using a little more of brace height than optimum, since the string leaves the string chanel a little early.
    Proper brace hight will be more critical than any other addition to your bow as performance and vibration are concerned .
    The real place of the bow that needs you to interfere thought is the contact point of the limbs to the riser.
    A thin layer of leather between the limbs and the pocket will reduce vibration and sound significaly.
    I admire people that want to understand in depth and evolve their equipment.
    In my opinion if your bow is structurally sound do not give it away!!!
    Get a pair of 64"bow
    version limbs at your preferred pountage and this bow is going to shine!!!

    As far as arrow rests,....I bought 9 of them and it took several weeks to get them.
    I bought 5 screw in plastic rests and it was the same thing.
    When I get a new bow I sand and shape the string nocks then I sand the sides of the limbs I shape and sand the riser I use a little steel wool on the fiberglass,... then I coat it all with linseed oil,....so its water proof and ready to hunt.
    No,.. I don't care about the finish it's a hunting bow.

    • @Makingitwild
      @Makingitwild  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The way I do it is by running the end through the loop a couple inches and then wrapping down the string over that tag end. I you want it snug but not too tight. To end it just split the string and run it through. It’s just friction holding it but I’ve never had one come out. I hope that makes sense. It works the same on Flemish strings the same as continuous loop.

      You will probably need arrows in the 500 spine range but it depends on your draw length and points you are going to shoot. Any opinion on lining the limb pockets with moleskin or velcro?? I've been told it will reduce limb vibration and quiet things a bit. Thanks

    • @Makingitwild
      @Makingitwild  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can help make it quieter but you’ll have to make sure it doesn’t change the tiller of the bow. Just make sure material thickness is the same on both ends and it should work just fine. If it doesn’t work you can always take it off. Good luck

    • @Makingitwild
      @Makingitwild  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the black hunter would be a good option to get started. The most important thing is to not get a bow that’s too heavy. Start with a light poundage bow to help with form from the start so you don’t develop bad habits. Good luck. I’m sure you’ll love it.

  • @mcgamingdiamond
    @mcgamingdiamond 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was looking for videos (or any information really) on removing material from a bow riser. I was wondering if it was an alright idea to remove a bit of the material (about 1 cm, probably less) at the top of the sight window since it blocks the view of close targets (

    • @Makingitwild
      @Makingitwild  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You shouldn’t have any issue removing material from the top of the sight window. Keep in mind where the fade outs are but as long as you have room it won’t be a problem. The weakest point of the riser is where the shelf and sight window meet so above that you are fine. Good luck.

    • @Makingitwild
      @Makingitwild  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tested the 55# limbs to 31” and it maintained the 3 pounds per inch increase. I’ve seen some bows that even at 30” reach the end of its capability but these have a working limb that are long enough I think it will do fine at you draw length. Not very many people have that long of a draw length so it will be interesting what kind of performance you will get out of it. Good luck

      I am shooting a Southwest Spyder XL. At 64" it gives me about 45# at my longer draw length of 30.75, which is good, "cause I have the 45# limbs installed. Very similar to the Sage design, but the riser seems to have more attention paid to aesthetics and comfort. Still a budget minded mass-production bow, but a great everyday "beater".

    • @Makingitwild
      @Makingitwild  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would agree that if it was possible it’s better to shoot one before you buy it. It’s also a good idea to buy from a local shop because they can help. In your case; if you are just getting started it’s better to order one online and have a bow rather than waiting until you have access to a shop. It would be hard to beat the Samick sage or a similar bow for the price. You can always upgrade limbs so I would buy one with lighter limbs than you think you need. Just my opinion but I think shooting and having fun is the most important part about archery. Any bow is better than no bow.
