Great video Ross. Don’t listen to the comment about video length being too long most of your audience loves the videos you put out because of how informative and fun they are. If people don’t want to watch a long video surely they can watch part of the video and then just stop? Hope you have a great season and looking forward to fpl therapy
Number 10 is so underrated and should be part of every one's decision process. Know yourself and how you will react to outcomes. One example is that I would feel devastated if my triple Arsenal/Liverpool/City defence would concede a late 94th minute goal. More generally I prefer to rely on offensive players, keeping me excited till the final whistle with the potential for a return, rather than sit on a big score with my big at the back defence the whole game and being anxious to see it evaporate at the end. Or when my country Belgium was playing France in the Euros knockout stage, I resisted the urge to put KDB/Lukaku in my fantasy team. If they returned and Belgium went through, the joy of the qualification would exceed the regret of missing out on their returns. And if they blanked and Belgium went out, at least I'd find some consolation in that my fantasy team didn't suffer. So backing them for potential double joy didn't seem worth the risk of double hurt. Another aspect where this can come into play is following the herd, or deliberately going agaist the template. It's worth considering beforehand how you will feel both when it works out and when it fails.
@@FPLRaptor you balance the technical elements with the human elements so it makes sense you’re a psych major. this is my first season non casual so I’ll be tuning in to hear your views regularly 👊

Another Great video, These videos took me from a rank of over 2 million in my first season, to 190 thousand rank last year, I made a lot of these mistakes myself in the first year, I play for fun but like everyone there’s a little bit of a competitive side, can’t wait for the next one 👏😀
This one was fantastic Ross! Yeah, playing to have fun is the way to go. You know the one thing that actually puts me off after the GW ends?? I bring in a player on a gut feeling ( not just random player, but a good option) and then change him for some reason and then the first player absolutely smashes it!! This happens two/ three times and I am wondering, my ranking has taken a beating!
Very good video and advice. Different to another draft update video alot do. I watch alot of your content but was not subscribed, but I am now, with notifications on.
Ross, great video! I wanted to ask though, would overthinking also be a mistake? You know... trying to deliberate too long over a decision and ultimately making a worse one than you would've if you relied more on your instincts. What are your thoughts on this?🤔
This video helped me a lot. I have a tendency to take things like FPL too seriously, but this video has really opened my eyes to why I play the game. I want to do well of course and I’d like to win my mini league, but the best feeling for me is picking players that I like or I think go under the radar and using them. I thought of Daniel Munoz and Rodrigo Muniz before I watched any content this year. I have since put them in along with Justin Kluivert from Bournemouth, a player who went completely unnoticed by the people I talk to. Thank you for the help
Hi Ross, last season I finished above you. That makes me feel proud about myself because I know how good you are! I hope I beat you again this season🤞. Wish me luck😆
100% agree with #7. I'm starting Leif Davies in gw1 and if he comes in with a 12 pointer, it will feel soooooo much better than if Eze or Haaland does. Not only because he has a lower ownership, but because it was a pick I made that not only wasn't influenced by outside sources but almost flying against them. That being said, I also agree with the amount of differentials, I limit it to 1-2 in my starting eleven most weeks.
Great insightful video I always revert to the military idiom I was taught.. " No plan survives contact with the enemy" You might see it going one way, the opposition definitely don't ! Don't beat yourself up and move on.
this was a very nice video from u, i would like to suggest a video idea uk maybe the players to look out from the newly upcoming teams cuz i am excited because all 3 are premier league heritage clubs and it could be exciting to have players from these teams in the league
Great advice for everyone who plays FPL Ross. Especially No.10. It is only a game and it's important to enjoy it but when you play that game over a period of 9 months there are going to be lows. Even the winner of FPL each year will have a few bad GWs.
Such a useful video 🙌🏻 I started playing FPL only last season and made a few, if not all, of these "mistakes" (inverted commas used as I do entirely agree that finding fun in the game is of utmost importance). I went to bottom of my mini league, then around GW 10 decided to play the game more the way that made it fun for me, whilst also trying to resist certain biases that I recognised were having a negative impact on results... and bang, I finished the season top of my mini league. Some really important points shared here for new players, not least the conclusion that game enjoyment (however one goes about getting it) is all that makes playing FPL worth it 👌🏼 Thanks matey.

This was your best video so far this season, Ross 👍 You're really good at explaining the behavioural science in light of FPL. I enjoy every video in which you display your background and insight from psychology. Keep 'em coming 🙂
Last year I brought Munoz in after eye test for his double digit hauls. Yet I brought in Bowen from underlying data prior to his first ever prem hatrick. Completley agree with using both eye test and data.
I used to be a guy "laughing" at peop,e that got mad or upset over a bad GW, but in the past 2 seasons I started to understand that feeling. Cheers for the reminders Ross, hoping everyone here starts the season well!
25:52 I agree with everything you said in the video apart from this, yes you don't get an actual prize but the bragging rights for life are worth winning FPL over having fun for 1 season out of 50😂. But I agree finishing 2nd without having fun would be the worst year of your life

I generally only take its if I have say 2 players Not playing at all and there are 2 payers who maybe have really good fixtures Or have a dgw -4 is easier to make up when the players you taking out are not playing
On average the captain you select will get 8 points that week maybe 10 or 12 if its haaland or salah but no more. In 38 weeks if it was 10 thats only an extra 380 points yes still alot but not close to 600 unless you get very lucky in my opinion
Would you go for Trossard or Rashford... I could go Eze but I'm the deferential for deferentials' sake guy... Already have Doku(have him in your team) and Kudus in my team...
Mistake number 7 is the biggest mistake I do, all of this week I’ve been in your comment section and others, asking about Gordon, I didn’t and still don’t believe Gordon will repeat what he did last season, and don’t understand the hype, yet I had him in my team until I watched this video purely because of FOMO

Regarding one team 3 players vs 3 teams 1 player - I understand where you’re getting at with ‘what’s more likely out of 1 team getting one or 3 teams’ but that’s not the point - the point is minimising the risk of no clean sheets or maximising that of a few. If each team has a 60% chance of a clean sheet the probability of a triple up blank is 40%, the probability of 3 individual blanks is 6.4%. nice idea to make it fun: make another team under 2nd email address and make the transfers you might bottle or decide against. alternate universe team!
That's great advice about finding a way to enjoy it. I realised that the only way for me to enjoy the game is to not have Haaland. I made a draft with Haaland, I had five or six players around 4.5m and still only had 3.0m left when I got to the last spot. If I had Haaland, I would constantly be looking at the points that Salah/Saka/Cole/Watkins/Son/Havertz are getting and feeling frustrated I can't have them. Plus if Haaland does well City do well and that's boring. With no Haaland I can have 3 or 4 of those guys and be able to swap them round.
we dont play this game for fun; we play it for the desire to feel horribly on a sunday afternoon when your freehit has just entirley blanked and your friend with 5 players and a muniz captain outscores you. Thats what FPL is all about.
FPL is a big mental killer, especially if you are high up in the ranks as the season progresses. The stress of not messing up every week, the second guessing every week is real
Ross, I was thinking isn't it a mistake to play too much on a fixture based approach. For instance, Arsenal's defence was brilliant last season, but now people are overlooking them for fixtures. In addition, last season's absurd Hwang obsession that led to people jumping on a bandwagon for no apparent reason. Third example, although maybe a bit far fetched, but if Haaland had Ipswich at home and Chelsea away 1-2 and Salah had Brentford away and Ipswich at home, will that swing the strategy different. Fourth example, Salah has returned in I believe every game against Man City, but every time, he is a bad captaincy option due to the fixture. Son is the same against Man City as well.
The hwang was a good decision bad outcome... thats outcome bias you're doing there. I agree with arsenal defence point though. Arsenal are just as likely to keep a cleansheet against city as they're against Ipswich. The fixtures thing can be associated with forest attackers, though. For example, gibbs white, he scored 5 goals last season, but fixtures mean he's messi now
I think also don’t put a whole heap of new players that teams have signed in the transfer window. It can take a bit of time for a lot of them to settle into their new team and playing in the EPL. Also some managers like to ease them in gradually through the start of the season. The shiny new toy is not always going to deliver on the expectations straight away.
Just try to find Ronaldo or Messi in certain best club. Exaple: Ronaldo in Spurs - Son Messi in Liverpool - Salah Fusion Messi + Ronaldo in PL - Antony
