I just want to say that when I first saw this video in the summer of 2007, my life changed. I didn't know what quake even was at the time, I just heard "it's fast" and I no joke thought that maybe it's a racing game, even if first person. Soon enough, I found this video and was like, "Wow. I want to play that game. That's it. I just want to play that game. That's amazing." I went and bought a $7 mouse with literally the only $7 I had at the time, and my brother had to pay the tax with some coins he had in his pocket. I started playing the quake 3 demo that night. Later on I was playing hours every day (the full game), and it had become one of my favorite games ever. I learned a lot about serious self-improvement just because I wanted to win. In 2010 I found out about a quake 3 tournament happening in North Carolina. I had 1.5 weeks to get ready. Soon enough I got to the tournament, nervous, but even moreso serious. (by the way I had a new mouse and mousepad by now haha) By the time the semi-finals came around, I heard someone in the audience say, "he hasn't even died yet the whole tournament" talking about me. It was true, but I think that got to me and my nerves because I ended up getting 2nd place in the tournament, which was still really exciting for me. It was that night at the awards ceremony that a year of awards in several disciplines began, because my confidence was finally there. I started getting world records in other games, won the violin I play now in a national competition, and other things. I also started college for computer science where I showed people quake 3 with its movement and depth (and also painkiller). People would joke saying that I play "that dead game" way too much. Soon enough, much due to quake 3, I jumped headfirst into the game industry. I will never forget my experiences with quake 3 and how it has affected my life, and I'm enjoying quake champions now, 10 years later. Thank you so much for uploading this video back then. What a wonderful game. :)
That's no wall hack. Its sound recognition. Quake 3 was a game where you needed to have the sound cranked up to hear the footsteps of the other player. If you watch the stair kills, Fat stands still and knows the other player has not moved from below as he would have heard the steps right underneath him. I played Q3 for years and once you got the spawns memorized and timed, and can tell where the other player is by sounds, you were a killing god. I miss games like this these days.
10 minutes of playing & your back. There r four version 1.16 thru 1.32 which u use "Version Switch" to move around. 1.16 had 440 Servers ALONE. Many have players,mods & server players. (Bots) No shortage of players :)

Bethesda won't allow idSoft to make a true updated Quake. They want to compete in the newly popular modern hero shooter market to stay relevant, so they've hijacked Quake and turned it into such. Also, you said: "i admit classes are questionable" Exactly. With classes, all of Quake's unique depth is removed. Quake is special in that its depth was centered on not having classes or loadouts. So if the new "Quake" has classes, it's no longer a Quake game.
True. I do admit that I really like the single player of the new Doom a lot but that's about it. Id kept making DLCs for its multiplayer but I couldn't give less fucks about its MP.(it tried too much to cater to the Call of Duty sensibilities of today's gamers while trying too hard to stay Doom at the same time. it just doesn't work) But slow-paced online gaming with "classes" and "loadouts" is the thing now I guess.
@LieutenantLousyshot well im just debating whether quake or halo really takes more skill than the other ive played quake for 1 hour and iv'e gotten the hang of rocket jumping running strafing shooting etc. also i find it very easy to just run for a rocket or shotgun and get kills that way AND you say stuff like halo is just random but have you gotten the max level in anything?
