interestingly, the album that keeps growing on me as time goes on is the Great Escape. but I could never argue it over Parklife or Modern Life is Rubbish.
@@rockrecordsreviewed1880 I don't think you were that harsh. it's undeniably a flawed record-and the songs are very bitter, but I feel like that's why I come back to it more often. like Mr. Albarn said, "I'm a professional cynic, but my heart's not in it."
@@rockrecordsreviewed1880 bro you haven't been as harsh as damon or Graham have been towards it especially damon and he wrote it hence the 360 turn in musical direction with next record, I think Alex enjoyed it the most and I'm not on about laying down an augmated 5th in the key of G 😅🤣 although the bass line in entertain me is very good, I am loving your reviews ✌️
park life and the great escape could be a double album for me. That album gets too much beef because oasis basically ended them...until song 2 came out. But its a shame because its a fantastic album with many great songs.
Yeah I agree. I find TGE the most interesting of their albums. Yes, there are some fillers like Ernold Same and Country House was never my thing. But I prefer it more than Parklife. The 3 britpop albums (MLIR, Parklife and TGE) are all great though. And 13 is another favorite of mine but it take som listenings. The highly respected Blur album never did it for me but Beetlebum is a top 3 song for me.
I didn't see Blur the first time round, but I caught them in 2015 here in Australia, after the release of The Magic Whip and thought they were terrific.
When parklife first came out it was like that moment in the wizard of oz where dorothy opens the door and sees oz for the first ime. It was music in technicolour. Weird but too wonderful to forget
Just liked and subscribed. I'm American and found your video by specifically searching for Blur rankings haha. Is Blur big over here? No. More people seem to know of Oasis because of Wonderwall and WTSMG? But, when I was younger I remember seeing Blur with song 2 on MTV. I fell in love with the band. My whole childhood I was obsessed with British culture. I had the chance to live there for two years when I joined the U.S. Air Force and got stationed at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk. I was there from 2018-2020. I took advantage of being in the UK and picked up every Blur and Oasis record at HMV. You can't really find them in the states at our record stores. So to answer your question. Is Blur big over here? No. But there are fans, like me, who own every album and listen to them daily. It's so hard to find other fans in the states. I wear my blur and Oasis t-shirts often and get questions about them rather than people who know who they are. It's sad and I wish more Americans knew about these awesome bands. For the record The Stone Roses are my favorite band and I'm also a huge fan of Joy Division. Thanks for your awesome video, I look forward to seeing more awesome content in the future!
It's funny, I'm American too but only listen to 'alternative' radio which plays a lot of imports (going back to when they literally imported records!). I heard Blur as much if not more than Oasis (along with many other European and Australian bands) so never really noticed that they weren't as big here. The first Blur song I heard on US radio was There's No Other Way, which WLIR/WDRE in NYC played frequently, as they did with all their subsequent singles.
My two favourite Blur albums are Modern life is rubbish and Parklife, I remember watching them at Wembley Stadium in December 1999 with my friends. That was a brilliant night out In London, and my first proper concert that I went to.
I’m from North Carolina and I own the Blur 21 boxset, band means a lot to me, same with Gorillaz and The Good the Bad and the Queen, Damon Albarn is my favorite artist working today, Americans have no idea what they are missing out on, I still can’t find hardly anyone that knows more than Song 2, which is sad, Gorillaz are a way bigger deal in America, but I love them and loved hearing your opinions, 13 is probably my favorite, The Modern Life is Rubbish, then Parklife 🤘
I think I prefer Albarn when he's not so ... normal! haha! Ravenous soundtrack and Mali Music are big favorites! As for Blur, I think that "13" is my favorite, but also his ability in the pop composition that unfolded in the earlier stuff is unique!
Adam, you're wrong. Your list is in exactly the same order as mine, and for the same reasons. So I'll only talk about the top two. Parklife has to be in first place. It's a wonderful collection of songs that I never tire of. It's impressingly inventive and is a happy sounding album which always lifts me, no matter how many times I listen to it. The playing is top notch and it never feels too long. Modern Life is Rubbish is really my favourite of theirs, but is just in second place on quality. My favourite because it was the first Blur album that I heard. A rather hip colleague at work loaned it to me and, if I'm honest, I begrudgingly played it to please him. Couldn't believe my luck in how good it was, in every respect. The glorious cover, the chords with the lyrics, and then the songs themselves. I'm not a Londoner, but I instantly picked up the sound of Ray Davies/Kinks, Bowie and also Barrett/Floyd that you mention. Every song is a delicious winner. The other albums all have great moments to varying degrees. Blur were a fine band who deserve this excellent appraisal of yours. It will be interesting to see what our overseas friends have to say about them.
@@rockrecordsreviewed1880 Of course, I had to play it again after watching your show. My goodness, Clover Over Dover. Has there ever been such a lovely, melodic song about a potential suicide?
I haven't heard any other albums other than "Parklife", "Leisure" and "Modern Life Is Rubbish but my guess would be: 9. Think Tank 8. The Magic Whip 7. The Ballad of Darren 6. 13 5. The Great Escape 4. Leisure 3. Modern Life Is Rubbish 2. Blur 1. Parklife

I have to admit that I was not a great enthusiast of that "Britpop" thing, I have no love at all for Oasis - Blur were a bit better. There is not a full album from them I really cherish, there are some songs here and there but nothing I really go back to anymore at all. I have not listened at all to the comeback, honestly I just learned about it from your video. That music did not age well and I think that your enthusiasm for it comes mostly from the role it played it your life. Sorry to be such a spoilsport. 7. Leisure 6. Think Tank 5. Blur 4. Nice to see you here being you! xD Interested to see if your ranking changes on Monday or you took a break ... kinda agree, loved many songs but the albums just feel long, but I guess that's common from 90's onward to try and fill an hour, I love albums to be 30-45 mins long, except if it's double album masterpieces like all things must pass, daydream nation, blonde on blonde, songs in the key of life, Tusk, Exile on Main St ... etc
@@UlyssesJonah I listened to some of them again but did not change the ranking - only the rating (down). I feel like I will skip the Listography episode because I have no album above 3,5 and it may just spoil others people's fun.
