    I have been known to drill thru metal shielded bearings to pump some grease in a bearing when it was on its way out to get it thru until I could change the bearing. Farmer Fixes. Yep, it all depends on the part and how fast you need it. Sometimes it's local, but it seems to be harder and harder in smaller towns to get industrial/agricultural parts without having to go and get bent over at the dealer. Back when my dad had a tractor shop, we could get lots of tractor parts from NAPA. Now days, no go. Bring a hydraulic fitting in and they're shaking their head at you before you even set it on the bench. Good repair video, Frank! Thanks for the video!

    I just had to change a water pump on my payloader; its has a deere 6059 engine; and I noticed the fan was wobbling; bearing was out but it didnt start leaking yet; deere gets $828.00 for a new pump; the price sucked but at least I caught it before it came completely apart and sent the fan through the radiator; you do a good job on your preventative maintenance another good video; thanks for sharing

    Sounds like we grew up around the same kinda people ! 😊
    Where I grew up it was a long ways to the parts store and it took a lot of time out of the day to go get parts so we done a lot of preventive maintenance !
    Yeah, I have added grease to those " sealed " bearings more than a few times, even had a special tool to do it !
    That water pump looks a lot like one for a Case 580 k, I've replaced a few.
    Thanks for sharing and take care. 👍

      I miss the day of the serviceable wheel bearing. If you cleaned and packed every brake job they would last the life of the vehicle! If you bought a used truck and had to replace them it was less than 20$ for the seal, bearings and a new can of grease.

  • @dalepremo3695
    @dalepremo3695 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good job, and again, very informative even if it wasn't as much fun as going to the auction! A little prevention is very wise with those semi-sealed bearings and will definitely help them last. Never heard of the sheet metal screw idea but I think it's brilliant. Just another example of good ol' Yankee ingenuity!

    I was laughing when you said you take seals off the bearings and add grease.... christ Frank you`re just like me!! Every chance I get I`m doing that... even on my snowmobiles... they last a hell of a lot longer!! Some of the older equipment couldn`t be greased in spots that were a nightmare to get to... so before putting it back together if possible we drilled,taped and put a fitting in so it would last. I was sure that Napa could fix you up on trailer brake parts.. they`re usually pretty good with that. Excellent vid Frank take it easy!!

    • @Digginok
      @Digginok  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah after you commented on the brakes I had to check. Funny thing is I have asked them before and they said they didn’t have them. When I took the part number they said no problem. That will be a lot easier for sure. Poor people poor ways! Just makes sense to grease the bearings to me. I put a grease zerk on the KW water pump and it has lasted for years. Used to go through one every 2-3 years.

    @6:59 what are those flexible ducts visible over and behind the frame rail.. are those torn fresh air for the cab ducts? just curious. ps.. when pulling heater hoses.. punch a small hole in the end of the old hose and in the new hose.. thread a zip tie so the locking head is inside the hose but have a short chunk of fuel hose inside and the zip tie thru that.... this allows you to easily pull the new hose in by pulling the old hose out as long as there are no clamps holding it in place you can see how its done in this image.. i.imgur.com/gTHJRWF.jpg its only slightly harder and yes i had to take the wheel off along with the suspension and fuel tank out to do the job properly. i.imgur.com/5sY6gjU.jpg its just a vehicle from an italian farm tractor manufacturer. not mine.. i just fix it. i decided to have some pie after i got the water pump on.. i.imgur.com/XWkpdAx.jpg and to quench the replies.. what the heck that is.. just just a farm tractors side line.. i.imgur.com/praCoxu.jpg and yes.. when its rolling down the street.. people are plowed over by just its looks and sound..

    Hi the old girls getting tired all at once and telling you about it by the looks of it. I went online Volvo shopping for you here in Manitoba the other day, older ones start at mid 30's and go up to high 70's Canadian for the newer ones. I'm not feeling that generous with your money to buy you one L.O.L.
    I find the guys that design tractor radiators will put a nice drain tap in them. The dick that designs the front casting don't usually talk to the radiator guy, So he puts junk in the way so you either can't get at the tap at all . Or the coolant comes out and hits something as you cant get an extension hose on to stop it spraying everywhere but in a pail if you can open the tap !
    Almost everybody hates a Belarus tractor, but to be fair the Russians designed one of the best radiator drain taps and locations for it I've ever used on a tractor.
    I had to flush a Massey in - 20 oc the other day with the fleet guard alkali restorer using plain water as well, before adding coolant again. That makes a mess like a skating rink quick, I was thinking what can I do so this stuff don't go on the floor like that. I was thinking of a used big plastic cattle mineral lick pail as they are a fair diameter , but one wasn't available on his farm.
    The guy had one of those plastic calf rescue sleds instead thats about 2 1/2 ft wide 12" tall and 4 foot long. we put that under were i was taking the bottom hose off and it worked perfect to catch the main flow and drips , with careful positioning. The only slight drawback was getting the contaminated stuff poured in the pail after "for safe disposal" , as the thing was a bit awkward to lift without another person helping. Thanks for the video, take care.
