Hey guys, thanks for the video. I am the Hotsch rep in Ontario and it drives me crazy when I see other dealers do demos like this. First off, a joker needs to run at 9-12 mph to get the ground cut properly. There should be a huge rooster tail off the back rollers leaving a nice soft level instead of seeing the drilled look you referred too. Setting a tractor up to run at only 6.5mph doesn’t do you any good at all. You also need to check the profile cut under the ground to see what the ridges look like for a fair comparison. Just looking at the surface is only one part of the equation.

One more point to consider is the true apples to apples comparison would be the Joker HD not the Joker RX. The Joker HD has 24" discs and is designed to run at 8-10" deep just like the Rubin the RX is a 20" disc and desigemd for "high speed" shallow tillage and as Jeremy said above 9-12mph minimum. (High speed disc) True test would be the Lemken Heliodor vs the Joker RX.

Go look at the Nebraska Tractor tests. It says the John Deere 8370r tests at 365 and the Fendt 939 test at 345. Second the Horsch disk works better with more speed. It does overlap more and they way I understand the wings is that they aren’t suppose to run on float. The pressure gauge on the front of the machine is suppose to have some pressure on them. Horsch also has a disk that has bigger diameter blades. They are just 24” blades. To get a true comparison you would really need to run either a Rubin 9 or 10 or the Helidor against that Joker RX.
I do appreciate the video and found it very informative.

That’s very interesting. We had the horsch rep come out and set this thing up so as far as setting it up differently, they set it up how they recommend it. I did not know that the John Deere actually had more horsepower, because the fendt dealer kept telling us the fendt had more so that’s good information to know, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. This is just what equipment they had to compare. At the time I know down the road they would like to compare a few more pieces of equipment.

I've been on a 22 ft Lemkin doing fall tillage for a friend of mine for 4 or 5 seasons. At a 5 degree angle it does a beautiful job on cornstalks. He has a single rolling harrow on the back similar to the Horsch. He had a twin basket like yours but it would plug up in wet conditions. Of the high speed disc's in our area the only one that comes close is the new Salford.

Would you guys say you prefer the Rubin disc over the karat cultivator to level it out and get it ready for next years crop? I am from central Alberta and we have not found the right tool yet to level out spud fields as we do not want to leave it too fine as the wind can blow like crazy in spring and blow the soil away. We are thinking the karat might be the best option but we haven’t demoed anything yet

Fendt CVT transmission is not the best at putting power to the ground. There is a reason JD still sells high HP tractors with power shift transmission. I have seen many videos of JD outperform fendt when the fendt tractor has more HP. I would bet your JD would pull the Horsche faster.

    • @RockyMountainFarmer
      @RockyMountainFarmer  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Yeah, I’m not sure how I like the low rpm motor I feel like it would pull harder if it would rev all the way up. The power shift is definitely the most reliable transmission out there.

I don't really understand what the dealer was trying to say by giving you this Joker to test... First of all, you are using the biggest disks on your Lemken, and this Horsch to my understanding is equivalent to European Horsch Joker RT (we do not have Joker RX in Europe). They should have given you at least Joker HD with bigger discs... Lemken is also making Helidor with small discs that are more comparable to Joker. Joker is meant for shallow tillage and stubble cultivation after the harvest at least here in Europe when the Lemken Rubin 12 can be also used for deep tillage and preparing seedbeds. Joker will definitely not be able to do soil leveling as I saw you doing with Rubin in your other video because it was not meant for this kind of work. Also, this Horsh requires a much higher speed than Lemken (I think it is like 10-12 mph). Hydraulic depth control from cab is an option for Horsch too and I'm not sure why would you put wings to float I don't think it's correct.

    • @RockyMountainFarmer
      @RockyMountainFarmer  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

So this was the closest thing they had available for us to demo. That’s crazy that this would have to be pulled that fast. In order to do that you would need a 600+ horsepower tractor because the 939 would only pull it 6 1/2 miles an hour. And I did try putting the wings down without float, but they pushed down to far and lifted the middle of the disk up.

@@RockyMountainFarmer It might be a little bit different construction for the US market. This year my friends were pulling Joker 6RT (6m or 19-20 feet) around 18km/h (11mph) with JD 8R 340. They don't put it as deep as you in the video as I said it's used for shallow tillage here. It also depends on weather and soil conditions. Here is an older video from me where it was pulled by Fendt 930 and it was pretty wet after rain I think he was going around 8-9 mph - th-cam.com/video/VV45CMITs_w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=stmeIVkpSbJ5fgh_

I would agree, completly different machines, but you have to say there are so many machines out there from every brand. Different weaknesses and strengths so many things to consider. In summary i would say Horsch is as good as Lemken if you compare the same kind of machines. Also both brands are trying to build even bigger and heavier machines to reach higher sales in the US lately

I don't know I think you look pretty sharp in that tractor on the cart under that big black beast of a combined next year
If we were actually going to compare these two tractors you do an alternating pass across the field with one tractor measuring ground speed, fuel usage, decibels in the cab and comfort....
Then you would swap tractors to use the same Implement and go back across the field with the other tractor comparing all them same specs
When I used to work for John Deere back in the 90s I was so green underwear that when climbing into any other color tractor you're like oh my gosh this thing is so crude and horrible . Now after having a Massey for a few years and spending a couple years with the German tractor as a dealer rep now when I climb in a new John Deere tractor you're like man this thing is crude
when the German tractor came out with their variable transmission you're thinking it was like an old IH hydrostat . Now 30 years later you can see over the decades how John Deere has played copycat catch up
The German tractor far superior engine and transmission, far better warranty, better customer support with the free person a lot of the features they might have similar but you'll notice on the German tractor they're a little more usable. I would say at this point I prefer the German tractor cab over deere
We had tractor uptime statistics and the German wheeled tractors that are built overseas were so far ahead of John Deere and Case IH it wasn't even funny.

This video would make a whole lot more sense if half it was the Horsch on the one tractor then on the other. Switch the implement between the tractors for a comparison!!
Also row crop duals tires vs tracked? What are me measuring excaxtly? In Europe row crop tires serve a very specific need, and when that’s not needed they are NOT being used. The worst kind of tires you can put on your tractor EVER period. They serve one very specific goal and nothing else.
You’re comparing tracks to row crop duals, throw some LSW 25 psi on that Fendt and watch it get to work
    th-cam.com/video/onJsGHT7Bz8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=VeFsPHDcV99MXBve
See for yourself. If you have the money to spend on a Fendt, put it to work. The MAN engine will pay you back it doesn’t rev, use the front PTO, get LSW tires with weights and simply watch it pay you back in fuel consumption. And for god sake, learn how to drive VARIO and ditch the row crop tires, use an older tractor for the row crop work! You’ve purchased a behemoth, use it as such.

@@RockyMountainFarmer you could have at least switched the implements. For next time you should, how can you compare performance when you put two completely different tractors on different setups, using different implements, and make a video about it?
I’ve only driven R series John Deere’s who’re actually quite comparable to the the Fendt except user comfort and fuel management. But you’re putting a tracked vs a row crop without showing performance using the equipment you’re comparing them to? Lessons to be learned.
If you’re gonna review a Fendt use the front hitch, put it on decent tires and don’t review it on speed, review it on work done (single pass, 2 or 3 jobs done, and fuel management. Put it on decent tires, and take comfort into account. That’s the Fendt is build for and why it’s loved in Europe.
If you don’t have the capability to do that would you agree with me that this video is kind of clickbait? I’m not attacking you, I’m giving constructive feedback because I love your videos.

Definitely not clickbait we did test the disks at the same speed. The Fendt with duals has similar traction to the Deere. We were mainly testing the disks but having different brands of tractors was nice to compare a little we simply didn’t have time to compare every aspect of the tractor or change how it was setup. We were at the mercy of the Fendt dealer.

@@RockyMountainFarmer I mean, there’s a difference between ft. and vs. you know that right? Not even trying to bitch here I was hoping you’d switch implements just to get a comparison. But then in the video you do actually compare both tractors working different implements so… what do you want me to say? 😅

The tractors are very similar traction and power

you need to compare apples to apples the lemkin should be compared to the Horsch Joker HD not the RX the HD has 24 in blades and then you will the Horsch is the better machine and you do not say what the HP difference was between the Fent and JD

I know that the disks weren’t exactly the same but that’s what the dealer had to bring out. The Fendt had 20 more HP

Anything that uses those rubber torsion mounts is garbage. They dont stay in the ground at all if its hard. The rubin 12 will get to depth. You set any other to 6" and itll only get to 2" max. They also bounce, get into a rythmic bounce at speed. Totally worthless.

Horsch is better and it's doing a better job

Horsch is only better if you have to go slow. It is much less adjustable and cannot go as deep. Also it doesn’t break up the dirt clods as good, and it only works in certain crops. We would never be able to use it in potato ground. It would just plug up constantly.

You need a Tiger for potato ground. The joker has a max depth of 4” it’s not a deep tool. It’s meant to work the aerobic zone of the soil and incorporate residue. Try the Tiger MT

When you buy foreign owned products, the profits are going back to the country of origin of the products.
    REMEMBER THAT.
So please do your best to support American owned manufacturers as they are every bit as good and some even better.
