I'm fresh meat from the Fort Myers Derby Girls. We're called Minnows, then when 'pass' our level 2, we become Fish. I'm also 45 years old so KUDOS to Susie. We don't get our names until we pass our skills test to become part of the regular team, I've earned my number though. (93) I need to watch this before I go to practice. I'm the only Fish right now and its pretty hard. The others are still Minnows.
Thank you! I`m a man from Germany and I really like it to see how much fun it must be for you to do this sport. I wish Roller Derby would exist in Germany :-( Sorry for my english:-)
As a former Michigan resident (Petoskey area) it was very nice to see this. I currently ref and play COED and Men's derby in Alaska and am super excited to see that there is more derby doing on in Northern Lower Peninsula Michigan. Gives me something to look forward to when I come home to visit. Nice job.
This was awesome to watch. I'm currently in a freshie cycle and hoping for assessment soon. There's two of us on my team and we hit the ground running. Practice scrimmages are scary (lol) I'm having the time of my life and I can't wait to earn my name and number.
I just joined freshmeat a few weeks ago, it's been so fun. Finally have my own skates. So glad to be off the rentals. The trucks were so ridiculously tight!!
@@nicholeperkins8867 look around for sure! Just Google your state name then roller derby. I thought the state my grandma was in wouldn't have any cause there isn't even a roller rink in her state anymore, but lo and behold, there's a league right in the city she lives in.
These girls are brutal I did security for a few derby’s and nobody would mess with them it was more like a free ticket , swag, and an all access pass it’s awesome
I think this was very good, though they make i t seem like roller derby is an extremely dangerous sport. Yes, there is chance of serious injury, but they didn't mention that why those girls have such high risk of injury is because they are fresh meat. If you start derby as an adult you can't skate as well as someone who joined when they were only, say twenty. If you have played roller derby for a long time, there is much less risk of injury. I just feel like this makes derby seem very uninviting when really it's a fun sport and not super serious.
this video is perfect for a starting team like us! I would really like to make Russian subtitles for it so that my teammates can watch this film.Is there a possibility of this? I hope yes :)
This should be renamed Becoming a Roller Derby Athlete.
