    Thanks for being here.

Even though I've withdrawn from TH-cam a bit this year, lots of progress (visible and invisible) has been made on Project Feline. Lately with the help of my supporters I've been able to set time aside to produce more devlogs in the background. There are multiple episodes in the works and it will be a little while before they are ready to come out, but I've been sharing daily updates and video editing process with my supporters via my Discord server.
    Become a patron ► patreon.com/raymondcripps
    Become a channel member ► youtube.com/@raymondcripps/join
Here are some new features yet to be shown in the devlogs:
    • Proper loading screens with % bars
    • New cel-shaded enemy models & animations
    • Momentum-based combat revamp
    • Flexible mission objective framework
    • Time & score attack mission types
    • Collect-a-thon mission type (with time limit parameter)
    • Floor-is-lava mission type
    • Look development (in-progress)
    • Procedural stage tools (in-progress)
    • "Laboratory" stage (revisions in-progress)
    • "Port" hub world (in-progress)
    • HUD redesign
    • Mission result screen system (with audio + animations)
    • Optimised enemy spawn system (in-progress)
    • Revamped Gabi model & animations (in-progress)
I'm currently working on a new model & animations for Gabi, which I am streaming here on TH-cam once a week!

Building habits is incredibly important. Not just for game development, but for life itself. I used to live an unhealthy lifestyle due to poor eating and little to no exercise. After slowly correcting my diet, I eventually started incorporating exercise into my week. Fast forward to today, if I don't do all of my exercises on my workout days, I feel ashamed.

A quote I love from William Somerset Maugham and I first heard from the book The War of Art.
"I only write when inspiration strikes. Fortunately I am inspired every day at 9am sharp."
Basically you just got to sit down and do the work. Even if you don't feel it. It's a tough skill to learn but it's a very valuable one.

@hishamaru 3:35 - 3:41 looks like it has a lot of variance. if we're talking about 3:41 onwards, maybe. but i was so focused on the speed and gameplay that i didnt even notice the textures on the walls.

Your project actually motivated me to create my own game, we're 2 years into development and also on Steam. Habit forming is CRUCIAL, there are SO many days when Unreal is crashing or when there's a game breaking bug, or when you've accidentally deleted a days worth of work and you want to give up, or put it off for awhile. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one experiencing this.

Those who are searching for a way to be self motivated I have two -
    1. Take a note book and everyday write down "I will make a great game" or something like that. Whenever you lose motivation, look at these words in the notebook.
    2. If you are demotivated, try to find the reason. What made you upset? What is not letting you work? Try to find solutions to those aspects. If there's something distracting you, throw it away at once. If it's a bug irritating you, leave it, work on something else and get back to it next day. If you can't come out with something, again, give it time. Not necessary that you need to do it then and there.

This video seems like the most relatable video youtube has shown me. As an indie guy myself with a big project (24M visits) sometimes the pressure of how you want the game or story or whatever to turn out can be too much. But developing habits & talking to your community are some of the best motivating factors out there. When I see people im my community be hyped for the full release I get very motivated to get it done... Addicted, even, as you said!

This is beautiful. This strategy can be applied to anything literally anything. I used to do the same thing when going for a run. My goal wouldn't be to go for a 5km run, it'd be simply be to put my running shoes on and step out the door, which was mentally far easier than "going for a run". The thing is once I had my running gear on and I was outside I FELT like running (90% of the time). It was very rare that I would turn around and come back inside. My fitness skyrocketed from the moment I started that habit.

I remember first hearing about this game, watching one of the earlier dev logs and seeing the effort put into animating Gabi at an anime frame rate in a full speed game, just being enamoured with the tech and coding work behind it. Cannot wait to see the game completed!

I also asked you how you're focusing on the project for a long time. And I worried that you're answering the question for almost 10 minutes on the live stream. And I haven't asked any other questions since then. Anyway, I've been working on my habits for like 2 years. And I haven't heard of a method like yours. But I figured out that if you want to do something. Don't do other things. Just stare at the walls if you're bored. Then your brain will start to work. I'm sure this game is going to BOOM! No matter the time that's being released, watching you make progress is motivating!

Sup Raymond, see if you could revisit the overall level design, i think you were on to something with the Tony Hawks style open world aspect that leads to portals for different levels. Gamers just like other consumers dont know what they want, but being a dev myelf, I can tell you that your solution has been proven for Mario 64 (open hub world and transport to levels by traversing to paitings), Sonic, GTA. Trust me, you are on the right track, it will still provide some linerality.

Just like everything thats hard but needs doing, you just do it, and it gets easier to do as you do it.
Which sucks :P Theres no magic pill to make your entire project a breeze to do all the time. Ive been working on my own artsy projects as well, and the hardest part is constantly staying engaged enough to do the things that need doing, like the pose work or the building work. Its so easy to think it up and put it on paper in words, but actually crafting entire sets or making that pose look just right with limited tools and the like is very tedious and sometimes frustrating.
But the end result is always worth it. One thing that helps keep me moving forwards is that fact alone. The idea that i can look back at it and say 'i did that' just drives me.
But at the end of the day, you just do it because it needs doing and it wont be done unless you do it P:
Ironically another thing that really helps keep things moving, once you have this down and you just do it, is having a direction to move towards. Once you have both the drive and the direction, things usually just move on their own and fall into place. You just gotta set it all up and do it.

While making music and especially after passing the 50h mark on a song, I start writing a bunch of psychotic ramblings down on notepad to not bin the whole thing. Like:
    -Fix the kick
    -FIX THE KICKKKK!!!!!
    -Really bad before hats
    -Bitcrush on kick???
    -Reese or top ruining kick??
    -RENDER IF CHANGE TOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    -Tape on everything?

If you're ever looking for inspiration for level design, check out the 3D sonic games. Sonic is obviously a very fast character and while he is somewhat vertically limited, the more open straightaways could be a good part of levels to take inspiration from.

That's kinda what I've been trying to do when I do my animation, work an hour a day at least. Unfortunately, my depression overtook me along with my doubts, and I've been doing nothing in the past few days. 😅 I've been kinda hoping maybe my second animation might jumpstart my channel and I could get support too. But I have my doubts lol.
Game's looking really good. I haven't been watching in a long while, but the algorithm suggested it again lol.

Linear level design is underrated. No, I don't want to break my flow by having to explore or backtrack. Yeah, it's a little harder to tell a story or have a sensible world, but you can be immersed in the action instead.

This probably has an obvious answer seeing how speedrunning exists and this game being velocity focused but surely there's gonna be time records right? where you can see how fast everyone went through the stages, just sets up competition for those kinds of players.
