  • Let’s make a platform bed using Floyd Home bed hardware! This project was easy and turned out wonderful! Plus, it included a trip to my favorite place Home Depot!
    Queen Measurements:
    Buy 4 8ftx4ftx3/4” Birch Plywood. Have the clerk cut 8 panel pieces total (2 out of each large panel you buy)
    6- 86”x22”
    2- 63”x18” for the headboard
    King Measurements:
    Buy 5 8ftx4ftx3/4” Birch Plywood. Have the clerk cut 10 panel pieces total (2 out of each large panel you buy)
    8- 86”x22” for a standard king mattress
    2- 85”x 18”

    Hi! Is there any wobbling on the headboard? If there is, would adding some cork padding give it more friction to secure it in place?

    • @SabsRehabs
      @SabsRehabs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is very minimal movement of the headboard. We put cork on thr back of ours to keep it from marking up the wall. I wouldn't consider it wobbly though. The headboard holder slides into between the panels, tightens on the under side of the wood panels and the headboard itself is tightened into the holder so it is pretty secure.

    Great Video! Question... Could you make the bottom half of the 1.5" total particle board to save on cost?

    • @SabsRehabs
      @SabsRehabs  ปีที่แล้ว

      As in only do .75" boards? I wouldn't recommend it. They wouldn't be strong enough to hold weight and would eventually bow

    • @greiner19
      @greiner19 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SabsRehabs no, the same as what you did in your video (double up .75" plywood) except use .75" particle board for the bottom half (that isn't seen), which is half the cost. so the top half of the glued panels would be birch/oak/maple whatever and the bottom half would be particle board

      @@greiner19 particle board isnt very durable so i wouldnt recommend it even if you are using a stronger wood species on top!

    I may have missed this, but where did you buy the metal legs? Floyd sells them but for $300

    • @SabsRehabs
      @SabsRehabs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that is where I got them from

    Could you use the twin kit and make a long headboard to make a daybed for a guest bedroom? Not 100% if you could use the headboard kit on the side of the bed versus the head of the bed. Surprised they don't offer that option. If yes, can you give the supplies and info needed to build that out?

    • @SabsRehabs
      @SabsRehabs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would contact Floyd Home and ask them that. I am not sure if that set up would work since the headboard holder is designed to fit in between panels at the head of the bed

      a twin bed is typically 38" W x 75" L. the floyd twin bed frame is 45" W x 86" L. the full/queen headboard is 67" W x 18" L and the king headboard is 89" W x 18". if you use two of the full/queen headboards (36" W x 67" L), neither the width nor the length would be enough to fit a twin size bed. if you use two of the king headboards (36" W x 89" L), the length would have a lot of excess space, but the width would be too short causing the twin mattress to hover over the edges. three panels of the king headboard would be too much. if they had made the length of the king headboard at least 20" it would have worked for the width of a twin bed (though it would still look a bit funny with the extra space on the top and bottom), so I recommend getting the panels elsewhere if you want to save some money. aim for panels that are either the same size floyd provides or you could go a bit smaller like 45" W x 81" L (86" is used across all of floyd's bed frames). i know its been awhile but hope this helps someone!

    Why did you not use a saw or sander to take off the uneven cuts? I understand it takes more time however it makes it looks better and not so homemade.

    • @SabsRehabs
      @SabsRehabs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true. When I made this bed I wasn't very skilled with a saw. I definitely would now after a year of wood working. I made a king sized one for myself and did the cuts this time. It was 100% better then the cuts Home Depot made for my friend's bed.

    Hi! Is there a mistake in the king measurements for the panels? You wrote 89”x22” for the platform panels but the Floyd panels are 86”x22” just like the queen. Are you recommending we cut them and make bigger panels?
    Also thank you so much for this video. My girlfriend and I are about to do exactly what you laid out in this video! We didn’t know anything about sourcing or cutting wood so this was super helpful.

      I will update that now. It was a typo. Thank you for catching that!

    • @SabsRehabs
      @SabsRehabs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      89" would be for a California King bed.

    • @SabsRehabs

      Okay I fixed the typo! And glad you found this video helpful!

      I bought what supplies I could find at Home Depot so that is the wood I went with. And price spent on wood varies from region to region and bed size. I broke down what wood I got, how many I bought and showed exactly what I did to build it. Feel free to watch again and price the wood according to your area.
