I mean, is it? They got 52 tries per year. For over 25 years. To predict possible technology and events. With a room full of well educated people. It's really not crazy at ALL, if anything. They probably should have a few more.
I was in college when The Tracey Ullman Show was on the air. I loved the Simpsons shorts there, mainly because I was a huge fan of Matt Groening’s Life in Hell comics. I used to go get books signed by him when he’d appear at a local bookstore to promote new Life in Hell collections. At one of these signings, someone asked him if there were any bigger plans for the Simpsons, and he told us that Fox was indeed developing a series based on the characters. That was very exciting! Now, some 35 years later, I’m still watching the Simpsons. I’ve seen every episode! There was an episode from maybe 20 years ago with a song called "They’ll Never Stop the Simpsons." So far, this prediction has remained true! When the first episode aired in 1989, no one could have possibly guessed just how long this show would be still producing new episodes - with the entire original main cast! In 1989, a show was considered "long-running" if it had been on the air for six or seven seasons… Who knows…with A.I., new episodes of the Simpsons might still be being produced in another 35 years. (Provided the work out appropriate compensation agreements with the cast and writers, of course.)
After all these years I still love the Simpsons. Been told an old fella like me should grow up but stuff that I maybe 60 but I’m not dead yet and I still have a sense of humour. Great video Mike thanks for sharing.
Mattingly was benched in 1991 (not 1993) for refusing to cut his hair, several months before that episode aired. It wasn’t a prediction, it was a parody. And George Steinbrenner had more to do with it than Stump Merrill, hence Mattingly’s line about him liking Burns better than Steinbrenner.
I remember going through my childhood and having headaches I would never report to my mother and watching this show when it was still silenced. Laughing my ass off and everything being all better then.

Re predicting Facetime, I remember the Bell Telephone trial of video calling between the New York world's fair and Disneyland in Anaheim back in 1964. A bit weird as you were speaking to a random family on the opposite coast.

Dick Tracy had the first “Smart Watch”. But, it mainly made phone calls ‘on-the-go’. It didn’t have a lot of the tech crap in watches now. And, I don’t know if it tracked Dick Tracy’s location like the fit-bits, and other recent wearable ‘smart’ products have been found to do.

I watched a movie awhile ago about 2 holocaust survivors who was able to escape a camp (based on true story) and am curious to know how many more were able to do something similar. Idea for a good list imo.
Video phones around since the 1930’s. Hand held wireless communication device concept since at least the 1960’s Star Trek series. The donut concept of the universe has been around since at least the 80’s, I just don’t remember that concept being called a donut. Many skits were just playing on or mocking currently events. And the skits that seem to make a prediction, we’re just that, a story line that happened to come true in some form.
Get smart, actually predicated smart watches. Max had a watch that he talked to in the original episodes. Inspector gadget had a watch he talked to also. The Jetsons predicted facetime.
say video conferencing because their are many others besides Facetime and Facetime is not available for Android. You can't assume everyone uses Apple devices.

There's one prediction from "The Simpsons" that's yet to come true. The Wagner group is defeated by Swedish military in an attack on the Baltics like Latvia. This prediction is portrayed when Mr. Burns is in a tank playing Wagner "Ride The Valkyries" only to find Smithers had recorded ABBA "Waterloo" on Wagner.
Actually the skype/ facetime episode is not really a prediction, as this already was invented in the 70's called the videophone. Back then it was too expensive to own one, so not everyone could afford it.
The "Facetime" episode of the Simpsons wasn't a surprise to me because back in 1977 My Mom told me that in the future, I'd be able to actually See who I was talking to on the phone. Now mind you I thought she was totally out of her mind, but NoPe! She also predicted others things and as I keep a watch for them, many of them Have come true :)
