I may have gotten a little too autistic with the Vocation breakdown section. Feel free to skip it if you get bored. Synthetic Man reviews are more fun because I don't have to listen to other reviewers saying "Now, it's just my opinion, but..., Now don't get mad at me about this but..." in every sentence because it's illegal to have an opinion without 20 minutes of sugar coating.
And even when they try to make a point, they spend too much time meandering, or vague, or have few examples, or barely touch upon it. You don’t have to make a 90min review, but at least have some substance. Too busy pushing something out quick so they can schmooze up to another HR rep for early review codes, appear in official marketing, or some other benefit.
ESG is still a thing, BRIDGE is the replacement term for DEI. Slight differences. ESG is the practice of funding based on obedience, DEI/BRIDGE is the product/philosophy being pushed.
All I want to know is; do they force you to romance the NPC you interacted with the most? I’ll never forget my best friend was so upset when the dragon kidnapped that Indian inn keeper who basically does everything from inventory to vocation upgrades, then he was forced to watched the gay sex scene after saving him. Was fucking hilarious, he tried to romance the French knight chick but the game interpreted his time spent in inventory management as something else…
He sugar coated the microtransaction portion of the video. I Made a comment responding to that portion. He's doing a bit of bootlicking for capcom. Re 4 was finished and worth its launch price. Dogma is the opposite, not even a SEQUEL so that was a capcom lie. It's not even worth 40$ In it's current state lol. IT SETS An atrocious standard to AAA Gaming or Gaming in general.

Hey man...the trickster is the best class to get rich....get a good group of pawns and then take the weapon from the sphinx...and wail on everything each hit gives you 10,100, or 1000 gold and does no damage so you collect gold each hit....great to use on bosses have your pawns stay back until your content and then kill it. I agree with most of this....number 1 being they added so many skills that would work well as combos....if there were more skill slots
"sigurd invented the mystic spear" Speaking of which i remember a documentary saying the atlatl was a spear extension device that was found in every continent except Africa. OOOF
The clearest example of this game having lost its Japanese soul is that it has a half human half cat beast person romance option, and she didn't come out a catgirl.
You don’t have to worry Capcom is going to be releasing a dark arisen remaster, or a gold edition of this game after all the expansions and DLC’s come out for this game
@@beyond-the-soul8651depends, the changes for Dark Arisen were made by a different director. The original who came back for this game clearly disagreed with those changes, which is why they were reverted for this game. So unless the director changes again, I don't see those changes coming back.
_>"dispose of the diversity problem"_ They won't make it easy... That's why Capcom are trying to go after modding -- _not_ because of the "coomer mods".
Played about an hour of Dragon's Dogma 2 and I refunded it out of pure boredom. Went back to the original and not only did I have a much better time, but I actually fell in love the Dragon's Dogma universe thanks to the amazing world building and sharpness of the combat. Capcom just knew how to cook back then even if their older games had its fair share of imperfections
Game lacks enemy variety, bosses, equipment and even items compared to the original, how can you think about a sequel for a decade with a much higher budget but bring less than the original and even less than the MMO where some great enemy designs are stuck there in limbo for eternity?
@@sodafromteacups4029 Elden Ring had good enough enemy variety, the problem with ER is the bloated recycled bosses everywhere that hinder the game to be much more replayable (its the reason why so many really have problems replaying the game and make you go "uuuuugh not that again"), I would hardly call them bosses since most of those can die in very few hits. Some of those "bosses" were reused like 7 or even 8 times. ER could have been even better if those recycled bosses were cut and only placed once either as a random enemy or mini boss just before a major boss, and in the place of the recycled bosses a few unique, difficult bosses were added, and the items you got were more condensed through the map instead of drip feeding it too much through those boring fights.
@@aerus3446majority of the enemies in ER were recycled cut content from Dark Souls 3. and movement sets were also recycled from DS3, weapon attacks, and on and on.
In my opinion the difference between DD2/DD1 and Dark Arisen, is the director. Itsuno has some great ideas, that much is clear, as Dragon's Dogma and it's pawn system is a very unique and decently executed concept, but the world is lacking in a lot of the ways you mentioned, even in the first game prior to the expansion. Dark Arisen was Kento Kinoshita's debut as a game director, and though he was involved with the second game as lead game designer, I think his influence here was not as strong as with the expansion of the first. I'd be eager to see what he could do with the forthcoming DLC for Dragon's Dogma 2.
It's simultaneously a testament to Synthetic Man's honesty, talent, and comedic prowess and a depressing reality of modern gaming that I am more excited for his reviews then I am for new game releases.
Regarding the gameplay speed complaint, Devil May Cry 5 had lightning fast gameplay while running on the RE Engine. So either Capcom deliberately toned down the speed to match the “realistic” tone they were aiming for, or they could not get away with it due to the RE Engine being stretched to its limit to accommodate the open world. Of course the thief having a 100 mph saw attack flies in the face of all that so I dunno.
@Arisen_Again Meh, I didn’t think it was any slower or faster than the past DMC games, personally (maybe a tiny bit slower compared to 4 I guess but certainly way faster than the slug that was DMC2 or even the Unreal Engine 3 for DmC). That disagreement aside, I will say that Capcom has repeated the same mistake EA made with their Frostbite engine where they’ve tried to one-size-fit-all the RE engine for everything and clearly that has not worked.
I think it's the mo capping mixed in with the physics engine. Notice how you just get interrupted and slide on the slightest decline, like eveything's slippery? Uneven footing in DD2 is extremely frustrating.
@@Greez1337 Yeah. Ragdoll physics after death is one thing, but having to put up with my character tripping over himself over the slightest inconvenience is unwanted and frankly no less stupid than having your character in Dark Souls grinding to a complete stop because he stubbed his toe into a pebble.
Yeah, I have been hating every video game recently and by that I mean the past 5 years or so. At this point, I kind of just wanna sell all of my systems and find a new hobby
FF7 rebirth IS AMAZING. I liked dragon dogma 2 but now im playing rebirth and it blows it out of the water in every aspect. Hard mode is a fun challenge too
The same mono-diverse cities everywhere in medieval settings are some of the most jarring and immersion breaking aspects of them all. If you need browns and blacks for your yew coins at least make them have their own city and/or part of the world. At least try to make the world believable.
Exactly. At least put in the effort to make a diverse population if you need to have one. Create lore on where people are from, it's how you create epic stories and worlds.
@@stinkfinga4918 Considering their different accents and the fact that there's numerous countries, it's pretty strongly hinted at that different races come from different places. Been that way since the first game. And it's also strongly backed by the fact that there's no black Elves for example. Those are a pure European folklore people, and they were left that way to respect European folklore. Furthermore, it lends credence to the aforementioned point. The Elves in this game live in a very homogenous society that does not like or mingle with others. As such, they all retain a similar appearance.
You are being too optimistic. Dragons Dogma 2 has less content than the original, where the original would have given you some cool equipment in a densely packed zone, the sequel just throws portcrystals at you like its supposed to be a great reward.
A few things to add on : Core Gameplay : * Portcrystals are easy to get for the 1st playthrough but any subsequent Portcrystals for NG+ could only be obtained through the Sphinx replication. * You could stand on enemies but you could no longer "tech" your jumps to avoid massive stamina drains nor leap to quickly reposition like in DD * Poison and burning are a lot more dangerous but every other debilitation are hardly prevalent * Dragon weapons could be obtained through dragon crystal trading rather than playing through the game dozens of times like in DD Vocations : * Vocations and skills were "rebalanced" to play a far more "specialized" role within the party - DD had overlaps but they were still distinct in their strengths and niche * Fighter stole the Assassin's Gouge sword move * Thief's Implicate can be used to topple large enemies when staggered and Smoke Bomb's actually pretty decent on Pawns since it could cause enemy to derp out for a few seconds * Mage's Celestial Paen's actually pretty neat on Pawns since you would have infinite stamina for the duration.... but it's terrible for post-game since you're blinded every time you climb on any of the bosses. Celerity's more consistent and could be used to increase your travel speed. * Why use Meteor when Augural Flare exists? * Seism can easily stagger ogres and cyclops. It could also be used to reliably kill Golems now. * Spearhand doesn't rely on skills for damage but it's core skills. It could potentially stunlock bosses with it's Vocation ability + raw DPS. * Magick Archer's Arctic Bolt can be used to harm Golems * The most effective way to use Wayfarer is to combine Sorcerer's Augural Flare with a physical Bow Pawns : * Pawns are more consistent in behaviour but are now allocated to rigid AI presets and lacks the notable "progression" they had in DD * You could see a Pawn melt a Drake's health in DD. You'd never see that in DD2. * Badge system is worse than DD's Knowledge RPG Mechanics : * Stat growth is completely sidelined by equipment - perhaps even more so than BBI. Normal enemies are inconsequential if you're of a higher level in DD's base game but you could get stunlocked by normal goblins as progression is tied to gear now. Open-world : * It's just a massive labyrinth of hallways my dude Story : * Beastren are "wacist" against humans from Vermund - not humans in general * DD had a mad man hinting about the "truth" as well NG+ : * Most Quest items are removed - there's very little way to prep for a NG+ blitz
I respect the autism so I'll respond to a few of these: Vocations : I agree with most of these points, I should've messed around with Sorcerer a bit more but the playstyle is insufferably boring. I didn't max out the class to unlock Augural flare but I'll take your word for its effectiveness. The restriction to skill slots makes your choice of ultimate spells much more important. So, there's really no reason to use Seism or Maelstrom if the others do twice the damage to virtually every enemy. Golems only show up a couple times and pawns should be able to handle them by Post-Game. Pawns : You COULD see a pawn do something, but in my several hundred hours in the first, only strider and Sorcerer pawns ever did any significant damage to the enemy. Drakes in DD2 are much more durable than in 1 so it's not that comparable. Open World : I'm not sure if you're a new viewer or not but I absolutely despise giant empty landscapes and will take hallways any day. I didn't even like Elden Ring or Red Dead Redemption 2's sandboxes. The illusion of a massive world is not in any way worth it if the quality of the content suffers. You'd think after 15 years of the sandbox genre being over-saturated, more people would agree with me. That said, DD2's open world still sucks, as I state in the video. NG+ : Absolutely agree. I considered adding a short section explaining why Speedrun Mode would never work in this but the video is too bloated as-is.
@@SyntheticMan Vocations : Master Skills are, frankly, terrible for half the Vocations in this game. Seism's useful as a support spell since it has a strong knockdown effect, doubles as crowd control and is highly effective against Golems to boot. It could even down a Griffin in flight if it's flying low enough. Augural Flare's pretty much the go-to boss killer which pretty much frees what little slots you have for everything else. I do agree that Sorcerer's a complete borefest in DD2, however. Pawns : Pawns in DD with 2-3 star knowledge may occasionally surprise you through assistances like cauterizing a hydra's decapitated head. Pawns in DD2 would watch on with absolute glee as your Arisen's getting their heads gnawed off by wolves and ogres. I do think that Pawns are a lot more "consistent" but it does feel like most of the shenanigans that made these mindless drones charming were completely done away for something more "systematically reliable". Achieving a badge does very little to benefit the Pawn's competency as it seems to be just a matter of making them more proficient at exploiting opportunities to topple enemies. With DD, it's the equivalent of watching a special needs child developing important cognitive functions. With DD2, you're leading a band of average children that remains statically average throughout the game. Open World : I feel that DD simply had more memorable landscapes. The Bluemoon Tower, the Everfall, multiple ancient battle sites, the flat green plains that envelops Gran Soren, the Dragonforged's home etc. DD2 offered the player more to "find" but the entire world is an indistinguishable entanglement of hallways that's either green, black or a dusty brown depending on the region you're in. I had to pull out the map every few minutes because there were hardly any recognizable landscapes to gain a sense of direction from. Existing caves & "dungeons", if you could even call them that, were only marginally better than the average open-world slop and featuring dozens of generic caves over the experience offered by the Everfall or Bitterblack was just a massive downgrade. I do agree that content > world size but DD2's "content" hardly justified the boring landscape with an even larger map, more walking and a third region that feels like it's squeezed in on a budget. That said, great vid. I'm pretty much in agreement with most of the points of the video.
You can get portcrystals through pawn quests. If network feature is turned off, Capcom does pity hire and every once in awhile completes your pawn quests so in theory you can get an infinite amount of portcrystals that way.
Atleast in Re3 remake we got to see alot many hours of Jill's nice ass... And also some very cool looking Npcs, Nikolai and Carlos, wow those are really "memorable" dudes... And tats base Re3, when modded wow the Jill I played is literally in my dreams bro hehe...
@megakoni1 it's very hasidic music. A lot of Nintendo music actually is, even anime themes. For reference, go listen to The Happy Merchant or Hava Nagila.
@megakoni1 what do you mean? The meme is the happy merchant, the happy merchant is them, when you play hasidic music over a criticism of predatory market practice, it's a clear and historically accurate meme. You need to level your noticing up.
So basically we need to wait 3 years for a re-release that adds better endgame content, more enemy variety, better fast travel, and performance improvements.
Lets not forget that Sigurd the dragon slayer is from viking mythology. That would be like taking an asian name and mythjology and turn him white. clearly ESG.
you just know that if there was a "Shaka Zulu" nordic tall pale blond man with cold blue eyes, black Twitter would complain about it & developers would fold & change it.
The gameplay depth really was better in the first including itemization. Was a small point when he brought it up, but whereas the first makes you choose between good armor values or resistances, the 2nd DD has straight upgrades for the most part.
@@Mayhzonthis is a nothing argument when armor in the first game hardly mattered as well lol you never had to consider resistances in the first game, at least 2 makes you choose between higher defense or knock down resistance
Here is what I still don't get after 40 hours of play. WHY ARE THERE ONLY 4 SKILLS?! Where we too spoiled in the first game? Was the button input too difficult? Could it ruin the fun to give more options in combat? Is it too difficult to put the rb skill to rb + any button you like? Why in the goddamn fuck do I need to tread a new skill, instead of getting giddy to try it as fast as I can. They should bring back the old skill system and don't skimp warriors again. Absolutely baffling.
Key is 40-50, compared to the absolute slop that came out over the past two years with the exclusion of a few titles like BG3 I had fun, like Synth said the combat system makes it worthwhile.
yeah defintely we need to stop supporting inflation prices when it comes to games. It's bs that games used to cost 50$ even 40$ in the past & they were much more complex gameplay wise than they are now. The only difference is that now they take more electricity/time to render I guess.
36:00 What's worse is that there are some instances in the game in which if you are playing Trickster you are left _stranded_ in terms of gameplay since the class is completely useless without pawns: In Battahl there's an event in which you get jumped at a pub for walking around with pawns, the situation descalates but you end up in a 1 vs 1 duel, your pawns don't interfere so if you were running as a Trickster you get clobbered because you can't fight back. The Warrior maister quest also features a 1 vs 1 duel and in order to win you have to ring out your opponent, something the class can't do. There's an escort quest in which you have to guard a random noble, depending of how the quest goes you get separated from your pawns and need to navigate a cave full of enemies, it isn't that bad because you get paired with another NPC that can fight back but you cannot contribute aside from setting up the ghost because the rest of the vocation's buff only affect pawns, not other NPCs. The Talos fight is undoable, your best bet is to have a Sorcerer pawn with Malestorm and hope they cast it to demolish it, otherwise you can't do anything. Pawns won't enter into both goal (jails) of the game so if you start combat there you get beat up. I also found it extremely bizarre that the first promotional gameplay showcases were done with this class which is not only the most boring one but it's the one that less remarks the highlights of the combat system: it can't delete health bars, doesn't have any interesting movement, you can't climb on monsters and hit their weakspots. All it does is draw aggro. That's it. And the cherry on top is that the class is completely redundant because both Fighter and Warrior have skills both passives and active that also draw aggro into them but unlike Trickster they can actually fight back.
This moment : "In Battahl there's an event in which you get jumped at a pub for walking around with pawns, the situation descalates but you end up in a 1 vs 1 duel, your pawns don't interfere so if you were running as a Trickster you get clobbered because you can't fight back." I randomly decided to unlock all the Vocations that i had not started leveling yet (because it might give an achievement) and every vocation you unlock gives a full set of that vocations starter gear, and the last one i chose was the Trickster. So as you might be able to immagine, i was actually overencumbered (walk, can't jump) because of the starter gear from every vocation and i stumbled into that event because i wanted to dump all of the trash the game just gave me... I was quite annoyed at that because the last save was also hours ago. Naturally i got beaten up and then Raghnall came in for the rescue and he got me in a 1v1 situation, in which i used the Help command to get my pawns involved. So basically i managed to try Trickster at the worst possible moment and even got to not have any sort of relationship/conversation/quests with Raghnall because i didn't honor the 1v1 that he "stuck out his neck" for me. Also this happened right after i f*cked up with the Sphinx and she lost interest in me. It was not a good moment in my DD2 journey.
Played it thought it was a 6/10. Decided to boot up DDDA for memory and was SHOCKED how much smoother the gameplay loop, and the climbing felt. Can't believe we somehow downgraded in 10 years...
That's literally the only thing DD1 did better. This game has the RDR2 curse of playing the game for you when it comes to all the climbing and sliding.
@@TheStraightestWhitest Really now? Climbing is the only thing DD1 did better? How about a main story that doesn't just completely shit its pants and forgets where it was going (what feels like) halfway through it? How about some characters that weren't a complete cardboard cutouts like in the ones we have in DD2? The court jester in DD1 has more character than pretty much anyone in DD2. How about equipment that was absolutely gutted in DD2? Only three main pieces of armor, instead of five like it was in DD1, and way less of it on top of that. Same goes for the weapons. Lazy fuckers didn't even bothered porting like half of the weapons from vanilla DD1. How about non-gutted vocations? 4 skills instead of 6, every vocation now can use only 1 weapon. In DD1, in case you forgot, most vocations used 2, and some hybrid ones even had multiple choices. That directly translated into more skills being available. How about dungeons that are varied and unique? At least some of them. You know, instead of the same cave copy and pasted about two dozen times like we've got in DD2. Those are only the things off the top of my head\what I got to re-experience replaying DD:DA after DD2.
@@LargeInCharge77 DD1 story is very mid, but it is leagues ahead of DD2. It's so bad that DD2 subreddit gets at least one upvoted thread criticizing it a day. That place is a borderline echo chamber where most of the criticism of the game, no matter how mild, gets shouted down.
If you're not in a hurry I might just wait until this game gets actually finished when the dlcs/expansion drops and see how things are looking then, I'm personally liking it a lot more than the first one. Exploration is a lot of fun and the world in general seems much more lively and interactive.
@@syzler8664 This is what he means by DD1 as it is the only version of the game you can buy on Steam. Yes, and then to play DD2 after because it's a flawed masterpiece that exceeds the original. Literally everyone here is just being racist. I don't pull that card, but this is just the truth. Synth is just a doomer who doesn't know quality if it dumps in his mouth. This guy can't enjoy Elden Ring 😂
Well in the first Demonic Mother’s Creampie they sold an Infinite Text Messaging game mode with your mother in it. Nobody cared back then (except your father).
My biggest problem with the game is that, everything about it is inferior to the original, which came out almost 11 years ago. There is nothing new and a lot of what was fun was taken out.
They are both amazing games. DDDA is ridiculously cheap, so if you see it and are interested in it, there's no reason not to buy it. As for DD2, you better have a decent PC or have eyes that somehow don't detect shitty fps.
Not being able to sell items from storage is such a downer when there was already quite a bit of inventory/storage management in Dragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen.
what was weird about the DD2 diversity is that is everyone is white or black. no asians, arabs or anything else, either african or british english white.

I was saying months before release it looked like a remake. Especially because Itsuno kept saying it was the "completed" version of their original vision that they could not do with the first game due to budget. Nothing they showed in the previews made this look anything like an actual sequel. While I too did enjoy my time with it, it's a shame that it is not the real sequel we wanted, and hell, it's not even a remake of OG + DA, it's basically just the original game, warts and all without the quality of life improvements that DA offered. Then there's the nerfing of armor, the nerfing of the classes, the nerfing of the augments, the boring gear (95% of all the good items come from vendors). It's like they regressed instead of moving forward. I mean, the title doesn't even have a "2" in it until the very end. Also, stat growths are not random, and the info has been out a while now. The game gives you a flat number for specific stats per level up and your current vocation affects it via multiplier. Those stats through the multiplier are your permanent stats. Vocations have their own stats on top of it when you change to that vocation.
Synthetic man i completely agree with you an at this point im very worried for our gaming future an glad i got to experience the best of it before the left took it over.
Dragon's Dogma re-imagined for a modern audience. I saw this garbage coming from a mile away. Gaming is truly dead. Expect any given new game to suck and you'll be correct 99% of the time. It'll take a crash and reboot of the entire industry before the art can be restored to the medium.

This brings me back to my days as a young man. Scouring the battlefields with my Anglo-Saxon brothers - slaying through orcs and goblins without a care in the world. Then the Panderers came. First they replaced my actual brother - he’s Hispanic now. Then they burnt my cousin alive - he’s black now - and he speaks funny too. Then they took my pregnant girlfriend (forgot to get married before the war) - placing our child inside of a surrogate, black muthah instead. Thereafter, they turned my girlfriend to charcoal and moved her to a more “tolerant” village ZIP Code. I thought it was all over until they replaced our King with a white woman. Not just any white woman, but one with what my new beautiful and brave co-patriots call a: “fiendus” - and specifically the kind of white woman born as a conjoined twin - half-Asian and black. Little could I bear all that was changing around me, so I begged the local witch to cast a “Urinary Replacement” spell upon me - until even the Griffins in the kingdom began sporting these new “kicks” - as they call them. Bestowed by the supposed goddess - “Nykey”. It wasn’t long after, four sudden barbecue meet-ups in fact, that our Griffins soon flew about our skies with long-curled dreadlocks in and across their hair. They too, began speaking funny. So much in fact that they began chirping and cawing to what my brave and beautiful bruthahs called a “Free Vibin’ Flow”. Not too long after, the occupants of the city buzzed with chatter about this “Song Cloud” of the Free Vibin’ Griffins. I was then compelled to address everyone by these odd prefixes - each derived of some make-believe identity and mostly each scorning me for my heritage and terribly good looks. Then it struck me, this review is not only a window into the past. It’s a window into my youth as a young boy finding his way in an Anglo-diverse world - WHERE MUH UPPITY, ORC-SLAYIN’ BRUTHAS WERE ONCE WILLY-NILLY, HOOWITE, TRICKIN’, RATCHET, GOBLIN BANGIN’N’SHIEEEEE…!!!

I agree with you on the diversity crap and I like making my characters accurate to the setting of a game. But that stereotypical view on how black folks talk wasn’t needed at the end, hella corny joke too.
The game ending with no special boss fight was lame af, when in the first one you could fight Gregori AND The Seneschal (Which on NG+ turns into your previous character with all of their skills) and that was such a cool and interesting endgame. Nothing to say about BB isle as it's the most fun part of the entire game and a free expansion. I owned the original DD digitally and it was upgraded automatically to dark arisen. Great review Synth, glad to see it complete.
I was bored to death near the end of the game so I eventually just rushed to the Main Dragon to do a New Game + only to find out there was a Hellscape Endgame scenario and when I saw there were new bosses I got so excited thinking there'd be new enemies only to find out they were boring as hell and repetitive.
Another issue with the character creator is the shoulder width minimum not just the height. All women are somewhat broad shouldered and is especially noticeable when you make them shorter. The character creator forces you to make them broader the shorter you make them. Its clearly for ESG against supermodel characters or loli characters and it also effects if you want to make a frail mage or a skinny thief/archer.
Game is definitely a blast for 1 playthrough. I'm having trouble sticking with a second. Even modded in eternal ferrystone and still, can't be bothered to keep going again.
I've noticed the wokeness also extends to the voice acting. There are White characters that are voiced by blacks and often in that ghastly MLA or Modern London Accent. Otherwise the game is good but not as good as the original.
It's not woke bruh. I think the voice acting has literally just been fucked. Go to that Beastren to get into Battahl and deny giving him the paper. Bro has an entirely different voice when he yells at you 💀I'm pretty sure this is the same case for one of the cart guys too[I don't remember which one] if you listen to the NPC then talk to them- 2 entirely different voices. The Warg also has the Garm model. As other people say, game seems rushed
@@AnimeMangaKS you are delusional. it's modern capcom. they have a page for esg. they have guidelines for their devs that limits their creative freedom, telling them to avoid "problematic" content like stereotypes and offensive jokes, while pushing diversity and equality. wake up. using the skull emoji means you are a zoomer and your opinion is irrelevant btw.
Oof, I hate that. I've seen it done on a few times when I watch something dubbed. I'm sorry but 80% of the time if a voiceactor is black you can literally hear it in their voice especially if they are male. Its biology. Sometimes they can pull it off sure but they aren't being strict when they record or hire voiceactors.
I have a theory that the guy behind trickster class in DD2 is the same guy behind adding V in DMC5 edit: even though I personally like brave ideas, I also understand why a lot of people hate that shit
@stinkfinga4918 He probably is, but also could be that Capcom hates him, considering that the team that worked on DD2 was 4-5 times smaller than the RE4 team. Less than 400 people.
@@lolcatjunior Why wouldn't they? They straight up handed him Devil May Cry and kicked out the team that created it, and when he failed the first time they sunk millions into promoting his next attempt, and literally would not allow him to fail... then he kept failing anyway so they handed it off to another studio. That studio left for Microsoft regardless of the financial success that was DmC, and now DMC is back in Itsunos hands... RE2 remake was on record developed alongside DMC5. Which game has more bang for it's buck? Itsuno doesn't deserve a bigger team because he's proven to not have any actual innovation in his head. You can give him a team the size of Rockstar, all you'll get is watered down bullshit with more style than substance. He's a hack, but he's competent enough to shell out something basic and that's why he's still around. Also worth mentioning Resident Evil is Capcoms flagship franchise, theyre gonna give those guys whatever they need every time. It's lasted longer, and made more money than anything they've ever put out before. Dragons Dogma was always niche, Devil May Cry was sunk when he gained control and became niche immediately after 2. Itsuno is a walking risk factor.
You haven't either played the first game or just Capcom Games in general, because you'd easily know that's not the case lmao. Not only is there black characters in DD1, but you can name how many black characters Capcom has made on your hands 😂
@@HeyArno1d although you are technically correct, it has Denuvo and it hasn't been defeated yet... so the rights to play this game are available, but not the actual game itself.

And it really looks like the Denuvo is currently hard blocking mod progress for even just those.
Ah, Gina Coomz... my light, my muse. Synth, did you purposely choose good timing/appropriate music for this whole thing? The FFX and SOTN music seemed really fitting for a lot of it. Good work dude.
Thank you for pointing out how bad the MTX in RE 4 remake is, and that's without even mentioning how much more the game makes you work for Pesetas than the original. I was prepared for DD2 mtx to be even worse because of how many people defended it in RE 4. Yes, this comparison needs to be made. Resident Evil fans need to wake up to what's happening to their franchise. No more of these sweats telling us the game is fine because they have no sense of time loss.
The hints of ESG did make me roll my eyes a bit, but at least the Black characters, or any characters at all, don't preach to me about "oppression". There's also a desert region, so maybe it makes sense that one of the Black characters seemed to be from there. Perhaps Captain Brant was from there too. At least there are pretty women and skimpy fantasy armor in the game, unlike other ESG games where all the women are ugly and androgenous looking. I laughed at your "slut" clothing comment. It's true. So many female pawns were wearing the corset or stargazer outfits. It's gotten to the point of annoying. However, the corset does offer pretty good defense, so I guess that's another reason so many players have their female pawns wear it.
hey about the mystic spearhand, what you're missing is spamming the r1 special move, and spam square attack, you wont let the monster move while constantly attacking the monster, its meant for dragons so focusing on the heart is just an easy way to kill them. at least is what i figured. probably for other bosses then yeah its a bit lacking
This is the best analysis ive seen so far. I agree on everything. You know whats weird tho? The pawns have dialogue saying (not exact quote)"some enemy variety would be nice" and weve been here before wish there was some scenery diversity" where were they going with this? If they knew before hand while working on the game... Dragons dogma online was the true dragons dogma 2 unless they got something big planned for 2 later on?
Despite being a fun game, I can't get over the unexplained diversity and the other flaws you mentioned. Next to gameplay I value believable world design, it doesn't have to be realistic or has to follow a certain theme, but the game world should follow the rules set by the game design itself if that makes sense.I'll just stick with the original on GOG until maybe Capcom makes the required changes and improvements.
Let me get the straight, you admit it's not realistic, it's fantasy, dragons, goblins, like everything, we all agree, then why the actual fuck do you have an issue with diversity in one city, when did the game set any freaking rules, only time diversity doesn't make sense is if the game is steeped in reality perhaps which still we are diverse in reality, but in a fantastical game you guys legit are crazy af, diversity was by design because it's there world, they must be doing it to sell more copies right, freaking idiots
Trust me you don't want to explore space its not science fiction. Space is death. You'd be better off sailing on an ocean of acid. As for exploring the Earth it was a mixed experience, by sea it sucked whereas by land it was tolerable but slow. It was far better to be the guy sent over to keep order in a new land once everything was established than to be the first guy there. Regardless the places in the world may not be new to humanity but they are certainly new to you, you can still explore them if you want and without all the scurvy or the malaria(mostly).
Just wanted to say this is the perfect example of being critical of something and enjoying it at the same time. Also, BIG UPS for the using the Raging Brachy theme
The title for this vid seriously had my jaw on the floor. Really hope you continue to review modern AAA games Synth, even if this was a major disappointment for you.
One of the coolest moments for me was the Senechal revealing to be your previous character on the second playthrough, they just needed to make the Senechal a proper boss fight but we don't even have a post game now.
And all the black characters have that same faggy hairstyle. Eddy Gordo from Tekken is one of thoe worse cases particularly because he didn't look like that. Publishers just have a thing for this hairstyle. It doesn't even look good, it looks like the black version of the karen hairstlye. Speaking of karen hair, Paul Phoenix....
Maximillian Dood again was shilling for this game like he was FF last year on his twitch and TH-cam a few times. Then when this game got released he still was telling people to buy it and now he doesn’t play it after 1 time on twitch and that’s it.😂
This game is so unfinished that it's embarrassing at points. Sidequests feel like they are 40% complete in a lot of cases. It actually upsets me. Because I don't know HOW it can feel more unfinished than the original. With all the money injected.
What quests feel unfinished to you? So far I’m not feeling this at all. Quests are a complete upgrade from DD1 base game with more variety quest outcomes
@@venomshakeXV One example that I just finished was the Elf Village quest where you rescue the sister from the Ogre/Troll. You go into the cave, watch a bunch of "barely cutscenes" and then pick up the girl and leave. The ogre just sits there. You can kill the ogre or not. It doesn't matter.
@@grantlawrence4600 that’s pretty much how dogma 1 was as well… I dig the janky charm of it. Wont be everyone cup of tea though Edit: better yet, that entire scene was one of the key quests they showed off during one of the showcases, so they knows it’s jank, real Dogma fans enjoyed the jank
Great vid, thanks for the review. I won't forgive them for killing Strider and Ranger, and for not having a Mercedes replacement here. Will play this eventually, once it's on sale and once the inevitable mod for more skills is out. :) Giga Chudler's pawn has an appropriate name.
DD2 is Capcom first $70 game though, the other games were $10 less and in RE4 remake case they added the mtx way after launch, 2 or 3 weeks after I believe, obviously intentional. They probably regret not doing that here, so that means future games will most likely have delayed MTX
RE4 was not shilled much (my impression) by early access "reviewers" and "forgot" to read email about MTX. If other game have MTX don't make this BS passable in any way. People were unhappy about RE4 MTX (and DRM), but yet again corpos defenders (RE series have much more of those compere to this or some other games and plenty of mommies defending uglily childed because of nostalgia or whatever) came out with: "items earned in game" or "don't like it don't buy it" or "just cosmetics"...
The thing that was missing from mystic spearhand was the fact you never used the core skill where your character just keeps spinning the weapon around as you spam square or x.
One of my personal wishes for this game was being able to create your own sub-pawns and I was a bit disappointed by that. Can't remember if there was a lore reason for it but damn, the option would have been nice.
what's funny is that they could've made more sense with black characters being in the southern part of the map and rarely seen or never in the north. Even brant could've been explained why he was there. making him a defector from bathaal and is a confidant to the regency. giving him twists on his looks by incorporating bathaal culture into his armor. he would've stood out then. like synth said, why didn't they bother to add accents into the bathaal areas. Again, that esg money ruining interesting world building and conflict just make sure we have killmonger clones and ugly people.
Definetly will wait for patches and DLC to come out before making a purchase. Sad to see that the developers had the chance to make a complete vision of DD but chose to repeat the faults of the first and even create new ones.
When I first got to the sunken ruins I pogged a bit when I realized it was the old Duke's manse lol. I ran straight to the duchess's tower to see if I could steal her underwear again
The only reason we got DD2 is because Itsuno wanted to quit Capcom, so they allowed him to make DMC5 and DD2. Even look at the team he was given to make the game, like barely 400 people vs diablo 4 at 9k people
False. He was able to make DMC5 because DmC2 was scrapped when Ninja Theory went to Microsoft. They gave him less people because he doesn't do anything valuable with the resources available. He's a minimalist.
@@stinkfinga4918 DOnt care enough to find it but there is a'n interview out there where Itsuno stated himself that he would quit Capcom unless he was allowed to make DMC5 or DD2. Think ur blaming the man to hard. Its limited what a developer can make fit in a game when the company puts limitations and deadlines. Not everyone can be Larian or Hello games, that allow developers to cook on there game to satisfaction. Look at Dragons Dogma online, that game had more vocations and monsters simply because it was live service and therfore Capcom allows more development
@rektmercy7271 I'm not saying he never said that, I'm saying the only reason DMC5 exists is because Ninja Theory signed a contract with Microsoft. Otherwise we'd have DmC2, and likely 3 at this point in time. I'm sure after they bailed on Capcom Itsuno made demands. Sure. He still gave up on level design 1/3 of the way into the game, only had 1 extra outfit for each character, removed items, left bloody palace 100lvls with a time limit, etc. His focus was in the wrong places. Gameplay is the only thing DMC has going for it anymore, story sucks and there's no longevity or replayability.
I may have gotten a little too autistic with the Vocation breakdown section. Feel free to skip it if you get bored. Though quite a few of you seem to think otherwise, pointing out that I didn't mention a few minor mechanics/items: Allheal Elixir, Archer's jump kick and slide, Warrior's timed attacks, Thief "jumping" with the concussive blast, etc. Just because I didn't mention them, doesn't mean I don't know they exist. Also no, Mystic Spearhand's damage is not that good for the stamina cost. Try Thief with Blades of the Pyre + Skull Splitter and be blown away how broken it is.
Hopefully that curbs some people's 'tism.

Absolutely.
That's actually kind of sad. No need to put those kinds of expectations on a video game bud.
I keep saying this to my girlfriend, but even I’m disappointed
Its not sad its the opposite. The sad part is getting hyped like a dumb sheep then being disappointed @TehParismio
Sadly you will anyway.
A few things to add on :
Core Gameplay :
* Portcrystals are easy to get for the 1st playthrough but any subsequent Portcrystals for NG+ could only be obtained through the Sphinx replication.
* You could stand on enemies but you could no longer "tech" your jumps to avoid massive stamina drains nor leap to quickly reposition like in DD
* Poison and burning are a lot more dangerous but every other debilitation are hardly prevalent
* Dragon weapons could be obtained through dragon crystal trading rather than playing through the game dozens of times like in DD
Vocations :
* Vocations and skills were "rebalanced" to play a far more "specialized" role within the party - DD had overlaps but they were still distinct in their strengths and niche
* Fighter stole the Assassin's Gouge sword move
* Thief's Implicate can be used to topple large enemies when staggered and Smoke Bomb's actually pretty decent on Pawns since it could cause enemy to derp out for a few seconds
* Mage's Celestial Paen's actually pretty neat on Pawns since you would have infinite stamina for the duration.... but it's terrible for post-game since you're blinded every time you climb on any of the bosses.
* Magick Archer's Arctic Bolt can be used to harm Golems
* The most effective way to use Wayfarer is to combine Sorcerer's Augural Flare with a physical Bow
Pawns :
* Pawns are more consistent in behaviour but are now allocated to rigid AI presets and lacks the notable "progression" they had in DD
* You could see a Pawn melt a Drake's health in DD. You'd never see that in DD2.
* Badge system is worse than DD's Knowledge
RPG Mechanics :
* Stat growth is completely sidelined by equipment - perhaps even more so than BBI. Normal enemies are inconsequential if you're of a higher level in DD's base game but you could get stunlocked by normal goblins as progression is tied to gear now.
Open-world :
* It's just a massive labyrinth of hallways my dude
Story :
* Beastren are "wacist" against humans from Vermund - not humans in general
* DD had a mad man hinting about the "truth" as well
NG+ :
* Most Quest items are removed - there's very little way to prep for a NG+ blitz
I respect the autism so I'll respond to a few of these:
Vocations : I agree with most of these points, I should've messed around with Sorcerer a bit more but the playstyle is insufferably boring.
@@UnholyDarknessZ Healing springs being absent is sad face.
You can get portcrystals through pawn quests. If network feature is turned off, Capcom does pity hire and every once in awhile completes your pawn quests so in theory you can get an infinite amount of portcrystals that way.

36:00 What's worse is that there are some instances in the game in which if you are playing Trickster you are left _stranded_ in terms of gameplay since the class is completely useless without pawns:
In Battahl there's an event in which you get jumped at a pub for walking around with pawns, the situation descalates but you end up in a 1 vs 1 duel, your pawns don't interfere so if you were running as a Trickster you get clobbered because you can't fight back.
This moment :
"In Battahl there's an event in which you get jumped at a pub for walking around with pawns, the situation descalates but you end up in a 1 vs 1 duel, your pawns don't interfere so if you were running as a Trickster you get clobbered because you can't fight back."
I randomly decided to unlock all the Vocations that i had not started leveling yet (because it might give an achievement) and every vocation you unlock gives a full set of that vocations starter gear, and the last one i chose was the Trickster.

That studio left for Microsoft regardless of the financial success that was DmC, and now DMC is back in Itsunos hands... RE2 remake was on record developed alongside DMC5. I was prepared for DD2 mtx to be even worse because of how many people defended it in RE 4. Yes, this comparison needs to be made. Resident Evil fans need to wake up to what's happening to their franchise. No more of these sweats telling us the game is fine because they have no sense of time loss.
I genuinely believe the original is better in every way except graphically. I just don't have much interest in continuing my Ng+ playthrough.
On PC you can at least mitigate the graphical shortcomings through various mods, reshade, etc.
@@Shieftain that's true pal I did a magick archer run on the original about 2 months ago. It was amazing. I had way more fun that I did the sequel
Born too late to explore the earth, born too early to explore space, born right on time to watch a Synthetic Man video
Beautiful
Trust me you don't want to explore space its not science fiction.
Space is death. You'd be better off sailing on an ocean of acid.
As for exploring the Earth it was a mixed experience, by sea it sucked whereas by land it was tolerable but slow.
It was far better to be the guy sent over to keep order in a new land once everything was established than to be the first guy there.
Regardless the places in the world may not be new to humanity but they are certainly new to you, you can still explore them if you want and without all the scurvy or the malaria(mostly).
@@darken2417 Fuck off, life is romantic, exploring is great, it doesn't matter where it takes place, an adventure is always good.
1:04:33 - Pause video. Find you a man who looks at you like Synth looks a Nappler.
What a massive downgrade from the first game, devs seem unable to create a good game nowadays
Do wolves still hunt in packs?
You really had some fun pawn names in the old game.
They did Paul Phoenix way dirty with that hair style.
"Faggy"? Ofcourse you have to be hateful
I still think the running gag that Paul is now trans is hilarious. Hilarious in a "I'm fine with just playing tekken 3 and 5, thanks" way.
It’s the “swoosh” for black ppl. When u never have to worry about hair bc of lice and genetic MPB, you wouldn’t care either lmao
Wont be everyone cup of tea though
Edit: better yet, that entire scene was one of the key quests they showed off during one of the showcases, so they knows it’s jank, real Dogma fans enjoyed the jank
Great vid, thanks for the review. I won't forgive them for killing Strider and Ranger, and for not having a Mercedes replacement here. Will play this eventually, once it's on sale and once the inevitable mod for more skills is out. :)
Giga Chudler's pawn has an appropriate name.
One thing about the Seneschal is that in NG+ it was always the character you previously beat the game with sucks you cant really do that with this one
Yeah that detail is so cool.
what's funny is that they could've made more sense with black characters being in the southern part of the map and rarely seen or never in the north.
Pogged.
