How to get planning permission in conservation areas

  • The majority of the projects I do in London are in conservation areas. Many see this as a constraint but when you begin from the outset of what makes it a conservation area you can begin to have your project seek to enhance the local area which massively increase the chances of gaining planning permission.
    In this video I am in Wapping looking at the elements that make it a conservation area and how these might apply in your area and project

    I love Wapping. Interesting, I live in a flat in a conservation area and the Council sent me a letter telling me off for replacing my uPVC windows to nice sash wood framed windows. Naturally upset, I pointed out to the Council that the house next door has uPVC windows. I was suprised to find out that houses in conservation area dont need planning permission to replace windows because they still have permitted development rights where as flats do not have permitted development rights. The reason why the council told me to change my windows back was not because my flat was in a conservation area, but because flats do had PD rights.
