Hi Alex I started to get deeply involved with color grading around the same time as you did. Even though I have already learned almost all the content of your videos, I watch every video you make. and here and there I learn something new or see other approaches. You do this very well. Thanks you for making these videos! And since i have not updated davinci so far i enjoy this video here a lot! Best greetings from Fuerteventura!
Thanks a lot my friend! I appreciate you watching all my videos and hope you’ll continue when my content starts to slowly change more towards storytelling this year 😊🙌🏻
The Film Look Creator is meant to make things look like they were shot on film. So as a direct alternative you won’t accomplish the same. I will be making more videos with the film look creator but I don’t see it part of my own regular workflow in any way 😊😅
Either way the Film Look Creator is a fun tool! I just don’t personally like the film look itself that much, but I’ll still add your request to my idea bank and see what I can do in the future 😊🙌🏻
This video I've made shows you exactly how: th-cam.com/video/GtTVib9FkF4/w-d-xo.html The only thing is that I think I say that sRGB is the same as Rec.709. That's not 100% true, it's almost the same but the minor differences haven't had an impact on my grading and output :-)
If you do and export to Rec.709 you're not seeing the same as you're actually grading - because your MacBook Display is showing you P3 but you're exporting to Rec.709. So doing that will make a disconnect between the two and often result in a difference in color and/or contrast after export. There is a "use mac display profile" setting in DaVinci but I haven't seen great results using that compared to being in the sRGB / Rec.709 color profile. And I honestly don't see a big difference when I'm watching a movie either :-)
Hey Alex, am really enjoying your videos they are helping me with color grading a lot great content! I have a question for you though: you shoot in clog 3 as well right? I always over expose my shots by about 2 stops but I still struggle with soooo much noise is my videos but from what I can see you don’t have the same problem. Do you have any advice?
Thanks a lot Robert! Happy to hear that! Usually the noise comes from having too high ISO. So if you're not shooting at your Native ISO, then perhaps that's the issue? Which Canon camera are you shooting with and what's your typical settings? :-)
@@AlexBjorstorp thanks for the reply Alex! I am shooting with the R6 mk ii. I try and keep my iso at 800 and if the Scene is still too dark i will go to 3200 and I usually set my aperture depending on where my exposure is at after that. I have noticed that in 4K there is less noise than in 1080 or maybe that’s just in my head 🤔
I never shoot in 1080, so I wouldn't know but even at 3200 ISO you'll see noise. I usually go to a max of 4000 ISO but then I'll use the Noise Reduction in DaVinci to remove the majority of it. However, it's rare that I am not shooting at 800. I try to get more light first and then if I have to I'll shoot above that but no higher than 40000 and then use Noise Reduction :-)
I can't add anything to the last node. The settings is not highlighted! I can't add anything! so frustrating! I am doing step by step with you! where did I go wrong?
Dude! You honestly put out the best colour grading tuts on TH-cam!
Truly appreciate that mate! Trying my best - so it means a lot!

loved seeing your new workflow in terms of the new Color Slice, super helpful and interesting to see!
I can’t show up the skin tone line but how can I do that?
Would like to see if you can recreate most of these steps (as an alternative workflow) using Versioni 19 New Film Look Creator.

how did you change the display settings on your macbook pro to see gamma 2.4 instead of 2.2?

@@AlexBjorstorp can't I just use the Apple Display (P3-500 nits) in the display preset on the MacBook?

Great video! What do you use for the mouse clicks and highlights in this tutorial?
I use screenflick to record my screen 😊
@@AlexBjorstorp bro I appreciate you 🙏🏾
Omg how did you get scopes on a seperate window?! I have been trying to sort this out for so long but no success.
CMD + SHIFT + W 😊 Or you can just click the little expand icon at the scope section 🙌🏻
@@AlexBjorstorp bro. Can I buy you a coffee?
Sure! Appreciate it mate! I've just added a link in the description of this video as well: buymeacoffee.com/alexbjorstorp
Dude, Are you using the free version or the Studio version?
Studio version 😊

Is the color slice is available in the free version?
Yes

Which step are we talking about here? Is it the CST or the Outside node you're struggling with? :-)
@@AlexBjorstorp 😱 my 1st time using DR-19 when I'm adding something to the nodes. I like your tutorials. Thanks
