Garage rescue: Stanley 75 restoration without electrical tools [4K/UHD]

- I rescued this forgotten cute little bullnose plane from the dark corner of a garage after its owner passed away. The design of this rebate plane has not changed over the decades. This is one of the early versions. Sandblasting and grinding would be obvious. But what if you don't have all those equipment? In this video I show you that anyone can do a basic restoration if you want. I was surprised that the chisel had the same angle as the bottom of the plane, I didn't expect it to work but we will find out in the end if it does....
Please use the subtitles for my voice over text, where I tell about the process. I read all comments and always keep in touch with my subscibers through TH-cam, Instagram or email. Feel free to share ideas or how I can improve my techniques or tell me what you do and don't like to see in future videos.
Do you like to translate and create subtitles in your own language? Then please offer a translation from English into your native language. It's easy and fun to do (don't forget to create both title AND subtitles/captions)
Costs:
Stanley 75 rebate bullnose plane: € 10,-
Gasoline for my car: € 10,-
Coat hanger I stole from my wife: € 2,-
Sand paper: € 2,-
3D printed wall mount: € 0,60,-
Small materials (cleaning, glue, oil, etc): € 0,50,-
Paint: € 6,-
Stroopwafel: € 0,50
You might consider supporting me to be able to make these costs by donating through paypal: www.paypal.com...
Wow! You have incredible production value for such a new channel. Love the decision to subtitle you working instead of narrating it.
This is one of the basic principles of (ASMR) restoration channels: No talk !
All the good channels do indeed apply this.
Others (such as Kipkay) don't and outrightly put loud music during the whole restorations...
Took the words from my mouth The subtitles.... what a great idea!
Hey Robin, greetings and best wishes from Germany. I still think of you whenever I look at my collection of E-class ambulance scale models 😊
You have a collection of E class models? I'd like to see a picture of those. RAVU gave away the laste E class as a model but I wasn't able to obtain one. Many people sold it for 400 Euro's. Crazy.
@@ROBINRESTORATION I'd be happy to show you a photo, but first I have to make one and then figure out the easiest way to share it
@@eichelrueck via email?
Excellent job restoring the little rebate. When that's what you need there is no substitute. Good of you to save that one. Nifty little wall hanger too!
Thanks!
Watched your ambuchannel videos all the time and loved them! Today I wondered what you were up to nowadays so I came searching. I'm glad to see you're still around!!! Great video!!!
Thanks John
Thanks for the compliment!
Dankje
Saving lives by day and saving DIY tools by night, a 24/7 hero, stay safe out there.
Precies!
Traditional crafts and skills neatly blended with new technology.
Vakwerk en klasse video, zoals altijd !
Great job, and a nice touch with the wall mount. 👍👍👍
Thanks
Great stuff! I know it's been a while since you uploaded, but I hope one day I'll see more videos like this from your channel. This is really excellent work.
Emma Peel, wow that takes me back. Another excellent job Robin.
Thanks
What a cracking restoration - well done, Robin! Not only a wonderful job but the production values here are professional quality. It certainly really lifts your content. Thanks for this!
Thank you for the compliment!
OMG! Thank you so very very freaking much for sharing this restorational video. I was trying to figure out how to sharpen the blade for my Stanley no 75 and couldn't find any (or at least any that would work for my situation.) So was intrigued by your video and apon watching you showed me exactly what I needed in order to get my blade sharp. Again thank you so very much, you have been a tremendous help. Please share more videos.
You are welcome Jennessa.
Your videos are realy outstanding quality!
Thanks for the compliment
I should have watched your restoration before I did mine! Really nice work and extra labor to not use power tools. Great job and thanks for sharing.
Great work 👌👌👍
whether for a large or, as in this case, small tool, i believe the chisel _angle_ helps in fine detail work,
not digging in too quickly, which is definitely what crafters with patience, like yourself, can appreciate :)
thank you for your continuation of excellent contributions!
Thanks!
VERY nicely done. Thanks for sharing.
Again - just beautiful. I watched without captions (anyone else?) because the sound and visuals is very... soothing. Love your work. And I hope you're going safe and well at your job!! Much love from Australia.
That's the idea of the captions as far as I am concerned, that you have a choice to turn them on or off instead of a voiceover orso.
Is there no end to your talents? Great video-making skills too!
Thanks
Lol loved the no power tools blooper. Good video!
I am so amazed in what you can do. Metal, wood, and rubber you can do it all. I’m hooked on your videos keep them coming.
Brilliant idea, renovation without power tools. I hope that it will be a TH-cam trend.
Wunderbar work, Robin. I really like manual craftsmanship. It`s the real one!
Amazing work
thanks
Hoi beste Robin.
Great job. I absolutely love that printed wall mount.
You should get different sized dowel rods for sanding circular parts!! Also great use of the caption!!! I would never think of that
Very cool, well done.😊
Thanks
Thank you I enjoyed the video. Your editing of the video was very good. It made following how you were restoring easy to follow and easy to understand
I don't have much to say about the technical part, since i'm more in humanities, but it looks very nice, bearing in mind that you did this with hands only. Thank you for sharing!
P.S.: Russian translation is ready.
Thanks for translating, I just published it! Until next time?
@@ROBINRESTORATION Of course. It's very interesting to be a kind of "full-time" translator into Russian :)
I noticed that you didn't publish my corrections for the title and the description. Current ones looks a bit "crude", to be honest.
Could it be that they have been overwritten by another one? Sometimes when 2 people offer a translation almost at the same time this can happen, although not often. I would advise to keep your translation in a document yourself. And when this occurs, contact me, then I can publish it (again). At this moment I don't see newer subtitles for the title. Woould you ofeer them again (and you can mention your name so I know it is you.)
@@ROBINRESTORATION Maybe that was just a delay in TH-cam, because now I see, that it has updated with my version. Anyway, thank you for the good suggestion. Would be correct to have a backup.
A pleasure to watch, as always. And it was funny how you corrected the mistake of using that electrical drill (-:
Another fantastic video, Robin! Love it!
Enjoy this video! Please try to be the first in offering a translation to me in you own language, this makes the video avaialble to the many non-English speakers around the world!
Great video. Absolutely love the begining shots. Using the other antique tools was a nice touch as well. The captions on the video were on point. 💜*Chef kiss*
Nice work! If you're interested, I've got a couple of Pulaski heads that survived our barn burning down. Dad wanted to toss them, but I've held onto them for over a year now and haven't touched them with a brush yet. I'd pay for all your materials, time, and shipping, of course.
Leuk om naar te kijken! Wat is je volgende project? :)
Well done with amazingly simple tools. They´re are always faithful tools, just great.
And then the 3D printer ... :-D
I love this channel!
take care.
Thanks
Hé Robin, gefeliciteerd met je broer hè! :D Kleine wereld zeg.
Nice job Robin, enjoyed the video.
That's a cute little plane - nicely-restored. I like the idea of using manual tools only (especially the wire wheel) - I'll try that on some of my restorations 👍🏻🛠️
@@ROBINRESTORATION 7:24 De ondertiteling "This is a cruel way to do it" Bedoel je misschien "crude"?
@@ROBINRESTORATION 10:00 "to much metal" > "too much metal".
@@TheBertjeT Goed idee!
I smiled when I saw you using Mark Novak's screw head restoration technique.
Nice tool wall
A beautiful job, as always!
Thank you
@@ROBINRESTORATION Hi, I wanted to ask you something about a restoration project, do you have an email?
hey man ive been watching you since you were saving lives in w212 shoebox ambulances, i hope you are going about life at least smoothly.
Shoebox ambulance 🙂 Never heard that one before. Yeah doing fine, busy with too many things and still working on the ambulance. Mercedes Sprinters these days.
Hey Robin ( mr white ) greatings from Amersfoort 😀
Heheey!!
Well Robin, good job again!
Quality content, restorations and video production. Thank you and keep up the great work !!!!
Well done, sir.
Zeker coronatijd? ;-) nieuwe uitdaging zonder stroom!
Great job once again Robin. Videos like this are both inspiring and relaxing to watch. Thumbs up. 👏 👍
Thanks
very impressive as always
Great work robin, some very nice freehand 3D drawing from an ambulance driver indeed 👍👍 keep up the good work
Fijn werk, Robin 👌🏽
Excellent video! I found this to be very relaxing and interesting!
Thanks Glados
Excellent! I really enjoyed that 🧡 I predict great things 🧡
Luar biasa videonya robin 👏👏👏👏
I like it 👍
Fijne video! Mooi resultaat.
Lovely done
Can't believe I missed this restoration - really nicely done! Somehow I felt you would use "japanning" to get the black enamel look, but I like the way your enamel looked in the end. Also very cool that you avoided power tools and really like the quick tutorial on 3d printing - that part came out really nicely as well 😃
Thanks Fred
Nice work, and without power tools. Just a small observation, the black finish on a lot of hand tools like this is a process called Japanning. There are a few versions of this on the internet. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the tip, I will try that out one day!
Excellent video and thanks for sharing this. I think you should put your monogram on all of your restoration products.
Nice video, Like
I hope Robin doesn't mind if I mention this but Team Verkeer den Haag is posting videos again, though not very often:
th-cam.com/users/TeamVerkeerDHvideos
Anybody who (like me) misses Robin's videos might be interested in this other emergency service channel which usually concentrates on ambulance escort by a team of motorcyclists.
Goed idee
Another very fine restoration! Beautiful piece of work 🙂. Unfortunately I am old enough to understand the Emma Peal reference lol. Maybe she is in the company of Mr. John Steed 😉
Me too. I've never seen this one before. Stanley 75 is very small, isn't it?
Even though my monitor only can support 1080p, but it's still awesome to enjoy the video (also the sounds of repairing). :P :P
You will see a difference when you turn on 2160!
10:03 cheat mode active haha
@@ROBINRESTORATION sure, I try it before, the color would be more colorful but my GPU would cry hahaha, but it worth for watch this video :P
Wow! Old school meets new school.
Plz do more videos u r super amazing
I will
Hi Robin.... You said 'No power tools' ??? then next time make your coffee the old fashion way, all the way ;-) lol
Nice restoration !!
I didn't even realise that!! That would have been a nice addition to use my hand coffee grinder.
It's a diesel coffee maker! Haha. He also used a 3d printer, soo
@@juanmartinferrari5385 Yeah ~I know.. but the Dutch love their coffee so it was fun to pick that one ;-)
Buen trabajo
Top video, wederom bedankt!
Prachtige productie!
Dankje
A beautiful work! I really enjoyed watching every minute of your video. What is more, I was pleasantly surprised that you made a holder by designing and 3D printing it (I have a 3D printer myself, so I grab every possibility to watch how others design and print things).
I came to this channel from your old one - the ambuchannel. And the only thing which I miss - vocal explanations. I am currently learning Dutch and subtitles are of course useful (great for grammar and word order), but availability to hear how natives talk would be wonderful. But that's not a request; I just want to thank you for making this content and explain how much different things I could get from it!
One three letter word for you: WoW!
Hey just wanted you to know that the USA is using some of your old ambuchannel videos as training for how to help clear for emergency vehicles
Thanks for saying. Who is 'the USA'? I made a project proposal to my new employer for a restart.....who knows.
@@ROBINRESTORATION it was on a couple TH-cam channels with emergency ride alongs using your videos to show people how to react and move over for ambulances. They gave you credit
They also said the same as I told you once that you should come here and teach
Here some mistakes that I saw throughout the video. I hope you are doing well! Greeting from the US of A! I love the editing skills that you possess! Your videos are always superb!
2:55 Change "grid" to "grit" (This may be one of those slightest differences from US English to British English but here we call grit and not grid.)
3:02 Change "grid" to "grit"
6:42 Change "grid" to "grit"
Very cool video! Although I would never have the patience to figure out how to 3D print it through the computer software.
Done. Thanks for the changes. And basics of this software is not difficult, It is a lot of adding and substracting primitive shapes. But I have been doing 3D modeling for over 20 years so I am not sure if am telling the truth...
@@ROBINRESTORATION as a guy who comes from Blender, probably the least intuitive 3d software (and least suitable for technical 3d models), having tried Fusion, I have to say you are telling the truth and it is very easy 😅
I come from Alias and Maya. When 3d printing started I started using 123ddesign, very simple software that almost anybody new to 3d could get a grip on. But they stopped. Now Fusion 360 is much more advanced but the step for people who are not familiair with 3d modelling is too big I think.
ROBIN RESTORATION I have no clue what my school used I just know I struggled with the sophistication of the software and had very little patience with it. I prefer doing things in the shop with my hands opposed to computer software.
It's so cute. Lol. Great job on the job restoration. 👍👍👍👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thanks!
How is the workshop coming along? Hope to see you back soon!
Just a liiiittle bit more work than I expected ;-)
Eerst mijn nieuwe werkplaats bouwen.....
Which camera did you use back when filming the emergency responses?
Hey you again? The Sony FDR AX53 on a \fat Gecko rig, the same as for these video's.
@@ROBINRESTORATION Jeah me again ^^
Thanks alot, looking for a new camera while having free time during the dayshift
@@EnjoyFirefighting I like this camera. Although I miss 60fps. But there is no alternative.
Hoi Robin.

When you menyion thatvtjere are better bullnose planes (or words to that effect), which model were you thinking of?
I personally don't have any other bullnose planes, but that is what some woodworkers mentioned in their videos about bullnose planes.
12:54,,,, jajajaj,,,Emma Peel !!! ,,,I know that reference ..!!!!!,,,,,,great job,,!!
dad joke
7:25 - That's a knurly way to do them knurls :))
Ah, The much-maligned 75. Great restoration, and looks cute in its mount. If it's anything like mine, though, that's were it will stay. Easily the worst plane Stanley ever made.
Mooi stukje werk.
Hoeveel tijd heeft deze restauratie gekost?
Ben trots op je.
Dankje.
I think that this kind of tiny little rabbet is used by people that made strings instruments like violin, guitare, luth and so on. This one is very intersting !
Sorry for the language mistakes but I am french ... Apologies !
It is a pity that you didn't make a personal introduction at the beginning like last time! 😞 That was what set you apart from all the other restoration channels!
Thanks, I will do that in most video's, this was supposed to become a short 'in between' video, but I found out it doesn't work that way with any restoaration process..
Glad like the screw head repair idea from Mark Novak's channel. It's his idea I'm just a messenger.
Long time no see, Robin. Hope you're doing well!
Uitstekend dankje.
So that coffee maker must be making sounds cause of all the hamsters turning all the gears inside?
You are not too old. The original Avengers are still cool.
