Our neighbor was a Hesston dealer. Remember those in the 80's when they delivered them.

I got the exact same tractor bought it at an auction about 5 years ago all it ever does is run Baler. I like it because it's really good on fuel.

Fiat 980 dt was very common tractor in Europe. Usually 4x4. And quite good. Still in use.

Local Allis Dealer handled the Heston line. Sold a lot of forage equipment as that was a major Dairy farm area. Never have been around those tractors though, I know they did sell some as they were on the lot back then, just never have seen any around since. My go to HIC dealer also handled Heston after the Forage line was sold under the IHC name. We had cattle then and would lease Big round balers from them, was a real good machine. Didn't bale enough to afford to buy the machine so we only did that one year before I got a used Owatonna Roller big round baler. I thought the tractors were Fiat, now you tell us they were Fendt? There were a few Long tractors around, don't know what dealerships they were sold under. They were poor quality motors as recieved from the factory, most had to have the motors gone through to make them right.

I love fiat tractors dad and i got a 1981 Fiat 880 DT backhoe made by the finnish company T.Syväsen Konepaja it's built on the Fiat 880 DT tractor produced by fiat, you got the same 4.6L 88HP 4 cylinder diesel engine, same 4 forward speed transmission with one reverse and low, medium and high range gears, same front axle and same chassi the interior and design is all but different, i got a 1:32 Fiat 880 DT tractor in my room as well as the operator's manual for it dad and i mainly use it for annual service purposes so far and parts for the engine i've got to learn a lot about the tractor much like the backhoe, the tractor has wired brakes and clutch where as the backhoe has hydraulic brakes and clutch which is one difference and another one is top speed the tractor goes at 31km/h the backhoe 25km/h 😄

So I do know a little history on those Hesston was bought by fiat. In fact if you look at the leaf logo it is New Holland’s logo to this day. There were a lot of 55-60 Hesston’s brought in as orchard tractors in our area. I also seen a 100-90. These are the direct predecessors to the new Holland TL100’s. I went to work for a New Holland dealer in 2001 and a guy had the Hesston and when I crawled into it I was like wow. I didn’t know that. Also the 55-60’s were directly the predecessor to the. New Holland 4230 orchard tractor. The new Holland TL100 and case 100U tractors and then the 105U CaseIH and New Holland T.4 are the latest. Interesting that they are just now ending production of those tractors. Also they were still putting on that protectant even into the 2000’s. Hated that stuff couldn’t hardly get it off. I think it was like cosmoline. Hate to say it but gas would cut the stuff. Cool old tractor. One other thing. They were made in the Jesi Italy plant.

@Urs fiat sold Hesston to Agco when fiat bought CaseIH. Per the United States government. I was working at a New Holland, dealership and the CaseIH guys were ticked off about having to sell a New Holland baler. Hesston was a much better baler.

Nice tractor, other than the things you pointed out it looks and sounds field ready. Be a good tractor for someone needing to put up hay every year and use in a cattle operation.

Sorry Dave, that tractor was made by Fiat. The Hesston tractors did not ever go to AGCO they went to New Holland when Fiat purchased New Holland. If you want parts go to a New Holland dealer. There is a tag on the tractor that says Fiat or made in Italy. Fendt's are made in Germany.

It needs some maintenance before it can be sold until that's done I'm not for sure what the price is I think the tractors probably going to be roughly in the 4500 to $6,000 range when said and done

Junk that mic system you have and get something else. It never did clear up good enough to understand well. That was terrible and I really would of liked to heard that story about those tractors arrival at the Hesston plant.

Never was and is nothing to do with agco. Heston is a Fiat tractor. Ford Newholland case international is all part of the Fiat group. (not that you could make much of the audio out.
