@@teslatalks9836 Part of it is different expectations and sensitivities (e.g. every guy I put in the car thinks FSD is awesome but every woman I've had in it is stressed AF by every minor issue ;p), but another big part is that it absolutely performs very differently in different parts of the country. I've watched all kinds of FSD vids over the past years and the performance I see in CA is leagues beyond what I experience here in WA. Presumably, that is because CA has by far the densest population of Teslas, so that's where most of the training data comes from, I expect. But I hope they're able to get it that good everywhere, cuz I haven't seen real improvement in almost 2 years 😢

Yeah I am trying this free FSD for a month and am really impressed. There are some issues though. One big one that I have noticed is merging on the highway from the right. Even on the street it leaves the maneuver too late, doesn’t signal, squeezes left and often fails and forces itself out of FSD. Or when exiting a highway it signals to go into the right lane, starts to move over, hesitates and comes back a bit, then goes. Makes me look like I’m unsure about where I am going. But overall I love it and may purchase later.

V12.3+ has been merging better for me (even using the turn signal, finally!) but it refuses to lane-change for construction-blocked lanes until absolutely forced over and I've also been getting aborted lane-changes frequently (as in it aborts its own lane-change), which I never really had in any previous version. Also refuses to pass slow traffic sometimes and the speed control is pretty random. Highway is definitely a bit of a mess for it right now, but that's probably why they didn't actually put highway on the new version (I just have it early, due to some weird circumstances).

That unprotected left was wild! I just got back from my first drive with FSD and I was surprised a few times when it entered a roadway after a turn and it accelerated away like someone was after me! It got up to the speed limit faster than I probably would have, but it kinda makes sense if there’s a flow of traffic moving at a good clip around you. The worst thing it did was not driving through on a flashing yellow turn light after it turned solid yellow. The car had already committed to the turn and we were stopped halfway into the intersection and I ended up taking over and driving through a red light. I looked like an idiot. Also, roads need better marking as things move forward with FSD and other driving software systems and there will frequently be edge cases that confuse FSD. Still, it’s pretty impressive what these cars are doing right now.

Around 15:00 at that red light it seems that it was waiting for that left turn light to turn green, because your lane was aligned to where the light is. And for the lane change just after that, you should disengage and provide voice feedback to the Tesla team (if you haven't done so before).

My thing with lack of buttons is that for a lot of driver tasks, an analog button is still going to be faster to execute something. With a touchscreen, you have no tactility, and your fingers have to be more precise which is harder to do when driving (e.g an A/C knob vs a small caret on the screen)

At 15:24 the vehicle appears to be reasonable. Once through the intersection and until past the semi trailer, the right lane isn’t marked as lane ending. As soon as the first arrow on the pavement for the lane ending appears on your display (just past the trailer) the vehicle corrects itself to stay in the left lane. Remember, you have been there before while, in theory, the neuronet hasn’t.

Twice yesterday on the highway on the way to work, vehicles in the left lane (one semi and one passenger car) put on their signal to come over into my lane. They were not merging over into my lane, but FSD backed off and let them over very naturally. I was in Average mode. Assertive may behave differently. I wish Telsa had a technical doc on this.

2:40: Not bothered by flashing yellows on highway.
5:28: Yeah, this is something that is overlooked almost everytime non-owners talk about Tesla controls. They don't mention that you can do all the typical while-driving things from the 2 contextual scroll-wheels, and that and much more from the voice commands. Drives me nuts, no pun intended.
9:40: Or tired, or reaching for something, or eating, or puttin' on his makeup... There's endless reasons for humans being distracted. And I can't wait for them to get in the backseat.
    11:20: Speed limit wrong.
15:05: Fails to go at green light. The lane change after is because it doesn't recognize it's a turn lane, for some reason. It may be wanting to get in the slow lane due to traffic behind?
Glad it's doing so much better for you! In my area, V12.3 was a bit of a step back; it fixed a few issues but brought a lot of new ones in, especially on the highway. 12.3.3 fixed a couple of those. I was just in Modesto this past weekend visiting family right there off of Ladd and McHenry/Tully. I've had FSD since 9.x and the 25 in a 55 map data issue is something I've been reporting for years with no fix 😢
I think for Tesla to really be full self driving they need to have dynamically updated maps as cars drive by rather than relying on map data, similar to how a human remembers different signs and parts of the road after they've driven it. The driving has gotten amazing but the map data is holding it back

I'm coming at this as a newbie to FSD. Many others who've been driving the old FSD version for some time, feel quite differently than I do. Additionally, I'm coming at it as a fairly conservative driver in a fairly laid back country town in Florida. Where I live there's no need to be in a mad rush. Give a little time and wait a bit and there will be openings to get into traffic, etc. I don't need to shave 30 seconds off my drive, as I'm no more than 7 miles from home. Having been hit by another car who was in a mad rush recently, I really prefer to reduce the risk taking these days. I drove FSD on the 30 day trial for two days. I don't drive a lot and only drove into town for appointments, etc. Overall it is definitely amazing technology but I'm not going to judge FSD technical accomplishments; and it did some incredible decision making in difficult situations for me! I have to give it one WOW! Instead I'm judging by my comfort level in letting the car do all the driving instead of me doing the driving. Right now I'm not convinced to buy FSD. I characterize FSD's driving as a “city rush” type of driver or even a “Southern California driver” or a “Northeast City driver”. Gotta get there and get there quick, time is of the essence, don't be concerned about cutting anyone off because everyone does it. Use all that acceleration and use it often. It's “survival driving” IMHO. I can and have done it hundreds of thousands of miles when I lived in a big city. But I don't need to do that here. Sometimes FSD took me completely by surprise, weaving, pulling out VERY fast acceleration. I definitely did not have time to “Supervise” and that makes me feel somewhat unsafe. I have a 22 Model 3 P. It is fast as hell and I love it. But I use that acceleration judiciously and when it's safe to do so. It seems FSD uses it as much as possible. I have it in “Chill” but it's still way too aggressive for around here. I feel like I'm a tourist from NYC visiting rural Florida when FSD is at the wheel. The braking is better than older versions and better than Autopilot but it brakes a little too hard too early. It should brake a bit more gently when the braking begins. I've had people come really close to rear-ending me. Other than that it's quite amazing. But the price is way too high for the value it provides for me, the anxiety it creates, and the fact that I can't bring it with me makes it a sketchy investment. I'm pretty certain I'll not be buying FSD.

I have a pretty similar experience and opinion to you. However I think it's already good enough for me to consider becoming an Uber driver with it. And. As someone said. This is the worst it will ever be. In a year this thing will be polished.
I think FSD is priced to NOT sell. They actively do not want to sell it because once it gets to L4 (and then L5) they can sell it for much more. They would rather have you subscribe (and it has NOT been worthwhile up to now to do so) so they can increase the subscription price to what the market will bear).
I don't trust FSD at all and even as there are a few things about it I currently don't like (acceleration is way too hard even in CHILL mode), I do feel comfortable and confident when it drives.
Some polishing and the experience will improve by leaps and bounds. Eventually I think the car will adapt to drive more like the local traffic (it somewhat mimics that now by following traffic which is a crude way of doing it). Much more memory and processing power is required for this as well as new AI abilities.

@@johannel8104 Thank you for your comments. Generally we seem to be on the same page. However, these BEV's are not ready for Uber. I've seen tragedy after tragedy of Uber drivers with Tesla. The battery just isn't ready for such hard use. The Supercharger charge time is too slow for a business where time is money. And the battery degrades rapidly under such use. I think Tesla is beginning to warn purchasers of this situation. Once they improve battery technology for: Faster charges; little degradation from many rapid charges; and more range per charge, then it may be ready for Uber. IMHO if I chose to Uber I'd get a hybrid. We also own a Prius and it's a great machine. For a use case such as Uber, I think it's a better choice. Respectfully, George
