  • This video demonstrates how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator) device on an adult and child (8 years or olders). I show how to place the defibrillator AED pads, how to operate the AED, what to do is the victim has a hairy chest, implanted device, transdermal patch, and is in water.

    Overall excellent vid. I teach with the Canadian Red Cross and I recommend these to many of my CPR students (esp nursing students... who say your vids help them survive nursing school!).
    I also feel it is worth noting that (and i only mention this to my HCP/ BLS students, not those in the standard level), but while the machine is in charge mode (like 10-15 secs) it is safe to go back to the chest and deliver a few more compressions as well.
    Also re: your infant AED vid.. you can shock an infant so long as they are at least 30 days old. "Neonate> Don't Defibrillate".

    Wow! Very informative. I've never learnt about the usage of AEDs on casualties with electronic implants! Great to learn something new! Thanks. By the way, you sound Australian, but that AED you're using has 'American Red Cross' written on it.

    So the ONLY water that needs to be wiped off is on the chest? And it's okay to deliver a shock if a patient is lying in a puddle? I would be slightly nervous about that haha

    • @RegisteredNurseRN
      @RegisteredNurseRN  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Adriane Kelley According to AHA, yes you should wipe off the water on chest, and if the patient is lying in a small puddle you can deliver a shock and the same is with snow.

      Yup. Also u may need to wipe down the area after removing a medicine patch. U can defs use an AED on snow or ice, provided that there is no liquid water.

      Hi Jose,
      That is a neat coincidence. Did they use it right? You know how on TV they exaggerate everything lol.

      +J kidd Yes, it is still good until the end of October, but starting November 1st it is expired. You can always double check with who you certified through ex: American Heart or Red Cross. Hope that helps!
