Yvonne Okwara is indeed a proficient narrator. The way she explains to us the culture of the Abaluhya is exceptional. Not to forget how she correctly pronounces certain names in Oluwanga. I love how she keeps taking us back to the food. This is a great documentary that is worth watching as creates nostalgia and longing for home. It is always fulfilling to belong!
Fantastic history about our culture. Thanks so much Yvonne Okwara. We need more of this so that it doesn't disappear. I always have Likhubi, Lisutsa, Omurere and Kanzira-dried, and Obusie Bweimere packed when am globe trotting, to the amusement of immigration officers. Tusiwache Mila zetu.
I was born in the USA. After genealogical testing (DNA), I've learned that my lineage is from the Luhya tribe / people native to western Kenya. I've scheduled an upcoming trip to Nairobi, Kenya. However, the Luhya tribe is divided into 20 culturally and linguistically related tribes. My lineage cannot be traced more specific. Any suggestions for when I visit Nairobi and travel to Kisume in western Kenya to visit ethnic groups of Luhya descent. Any suggestions? Do you feel I will be welcomed. This is like a coming home after many generations; I may never leave.
You’re so welcome. Kenyans as a people are welcoming and even more so the Luhyia people. I’m from the Wanga clan in Mumias. I live in Houston, Texas though. Feel free to contact me should you have any questions though ☺️
Luhya are mainly in kakamega , busia , vihiga, mumias. They are related to the luo people who settled in Bondo. They come from the kingdom that left present day buganda kingdom.
Kisumu is for the Luo tribe (Nilotic tribe) Luhya are mainly from Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga, Kitale and Busia counties. Sakwa clan of the Luhya are the few who settled in Kisumu.
From the U.S. but my paternal lineage links to the Luhya. Great video.

East West home is always the best. Best would be to list and locate the 20 geographically then we guide you to schedule the visits.
