  • So we all like a new addition to the studio right? And yes, it can get a little out of hand and yes it can be a waste of money too, sometimes. However, there are times it all just works out and, although some studio recording equipment can be expensive, you may just realise that it was worth the investment.
In todays video, I wanted to share with you one of the favourite items I decided to buy for the recording studio this year. They are my Genelec 1032c studio speakers. I truly spent way more than planned, but I really do love listening to the recordings, mixes and masters on them. For me, they have instantly improved my work.
Let me know what was your favourite purchase for the past year? Did it work out and are you happy with the investment? What are you thoughts on buying studio gear too? Are there any hidden gems of equipment you feel we all need to know about?
Remember that just having studio gear is not enough to make great music, so never think that spending a lot of money will make you a better mixer or recording engineer. My basic advice, is only spend what you can comfortably afford and also what you feel will change the way you work.
Just like good audio, keep it clean and honest! :-)
    Happy Recording to you! Martin

Happy Christmas Martin. I went a bit crazy with gear this year building up from a small setup. A Neve 1073 so I have a decent preamp/DI, I replaced my rubbish guitar amp with a decent Marshall head and a Torpedo Captor X load box, which is awesome for a home studio (still saving up for a Zilla cab in the New Year). Lots of money spent on learning courses. Super happy with all the above. My biggest regret is overspending on plugins, when all I really need is TIME! Time away from day job and family to really explore the plugins I already have! That said, I’m more inspired than ever!

Delighted you have invested in your studio Nick! Looks like you chose really well and I fully get the 'Time' thing too. Really getting to know say 5 plugins really well is much better than having 100s of them and never really getting to know them and listening to what they can do. Keep being inspired and have a great Christmas too sir!

The last things I got for the studio were my Rokit 5 Monitors a couple of years ago. I got them second hand from a pawn shop for a great price! I love to get a good deal on 'second hand', 'refurbished' or 'scratch and dent models'. That makes me feel LESS buyer's remorse. Best of luck with your new space.
