As far as soloists that came out of kpop groups go, Taeyeon is THE one. Of course you have 3rd-4th gen idols who gained access to much wider audience with their groups and are able to show great numbers, especially with physical sales and international streaming, but most of them are yet to turn their 1-2 hits into a long term solo career. Taeyeon has been topping charts solo from 2008 with her OSTs. She has officially debuted as a soloist in 2015 and has released a long list of hits ever since. 15 years into her career, she's still killing charts and beating trendy idols half her age in brand reputation ratings. She's SM Entertainment's biggest digital performer despite the long lineup of very successful artists in their roster. With her rather calm and reserved personality and very modest promotion SM tends to give her, her important status in the industry may not seem quite so obvious, but Taeyeon is an S-Tier artist in Korea.
