And a tiny part that didn't really utilise his talents, although I think Armstrong likes that. Quiz show host and DJ much easier ways to make money than comedy. Also I'd forgotten Bill Bailey was in this. Chronic misuse of a brilliant comic talent.
The part I love is how Rory says "we thought you were dead" and Amy says "we did that bit". Rory and Amy have been preparing for this moment for years, to the point where they knew what they would say. The Doctor's return was no surprise to them, save for the exact date.
Three things: 1) Madge has all the right ingredients for a companion, but she is a mom in 1940s England instead. Which is fine. 2) Moffat plays fair with his audience. He sets up all the key threads early: Madge takes "strays" home, she can drive anything (poorly), and she is followed home by her husband. I like that about Moffat episodes, he's in the habit of playing fair. 3) The last regular episode before this was about the power of fatherhood. This episode is about the power of motherhood.
I lost my older brother in early December and my mother in late January (different years of course), so I was fortunate that it didn't ruin my Christmases.
Not a big fan of the episode in itself, but I love the ending at the Ponds. The banter between him and Amy. His surprise at having them made a seat ready for him, and the single tear as he realises he actually does have some family left.
I think, coming off the back of my favourite Christmas Special, this one disappointed quite a bit initially. On reflection though, I think it’s pretty decent, even though it is a bit meandering. The final scene in particular with Amy and Rory is fantastic though, and hits me directly in the feels.
I enjoy this special. It's not my favourite Xmas episode, but it never fails to make me tear up at the end as cheesy as it is. It's a feel good ending that works for an xmas episode. One thing that bothers me is what happens to the co pilot? There are two men in that aeroplane and yet he's not even mentioned once it lands, that I remember.
Actually, there are more - it's a Lancaster with one pilot, engineer, navigator, bomb aimer, upper gunner and rear gunner! But you're right - it's exactly the feel-good style of story we wanted over xmas.
I really like the opening, with all its nods to the Narnia series (and, in particular, the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, obviously). The middle bit is fairly average for me. However, the ending gets me in the feels EVERY time.
Honestly, the only thing I care about in this episode is the fact that they finally found a real police box. What a brilliant joke, and hard to believe it took that long. It’s all I watch when I see reactions to this one.
This Christmas special gets a lot of flack but I love it. Yeah, it's environmentally preachy but it's a sweet story without a real major villain and everyone is saved.
Not my fave Christmas special out of all the ones we get but Matt Smith as always is such a joy to watch and the final scene with Amy and Rory is really good
Not greatest christmas, but i'm sure greatly improved by several glasses of champagne. Plus - a real Lancaster bomber - but that probably excited me more than you.
Okay, you know the TARDIS *allowed* herself to be opened, right? :) And what happened to the finger-snap open? The problem with doing something cute at the time, but....
I'm actually current with the show over on Patreon and I did react to all of the bonus minisodes from series 7. They exclusive bonus reactions for Patreon members. Although, I am considering making them exclusive reactions to official Channel Members here on TH-cam as well. :)
27:48 when the doctor realises he finally has a family. I loved this moment 🥲
Remember Sarah Janes computer? Mr Smith? That voice is the husband in this - Alexander Armstrong. A comedian, tv host and classic FM DJ.

That ending with the Ponds always makes me tear up. I love how motherly Amy sounds when talking about River.

In a wonky sorta sexistish way yeah it was
So many comedians in this episode
The mom is basically the same as her character in outnumbered 😅
Not huge on this one but the final scene with Amy and Rory makes me cry every time.

Narnia: The Lion, The Witch , and The Wardrobe. Classic British...
A strange coincidence. The beginning (and end) of the movie are set in in the same time period as this episode. Intentional or not?
@@ronfehr7899 Intentional. Completely.
😢😢😢 this episode always gets me emotional
na, not a great episode, kind of silly actually and definitely not one of my favorites.
@ cool but you can’t tell me how to feel
The ending of this episode never fails to make me cry it’s just beautiful

Might wanna react to the episode *Pond Life* BEFORE the next one after _this._

Thanks, Britany! ⏳
I hope the champagne wasnt the run off from the pedi! Does sound luxurious though
i hope you do pond life. it kind of sets up the next episode.

Not my favourite episode but ending made it better imo and the family getting the dad back. Next episode is good imo👀

The "TARDIS" she opened was an actual police box though.
@@lesterbottomley7641 RIGHT. I stand corrected!!! It's been a while. TY!!!
Also difficult to snap fingers wearing a space suit :D
@@Albahtra RIGHT. I thought about that, too! I guess I'm just annoyed because it never came up again.
You should react to pond life! Looking forward to watching the next series, it's a big one! No Spoilers!

@@BritanyBinges Ah okay! Brilliant 😁
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
all women marry the man who stalks them.
cheesy but good.
I didn't really care for this one. There were good parts but... it meandered. And they wasted Bill Bailey.
