Paul stops in to see Les and tell him one of the first songs Paul and John Lennon first played at one of there first gigs was a hit Les had "How High the Moon" Iridium 4/23/2001 Lespaul.org
Paul McCartney is the greatest musician on this planet. Every other musician wants to meet him. If all the great musicians we’re in a room together and then walked in Paul McCartney, all the energy in the room would turn towards him.
Paul--always a gentleman, always humble in the way he carries himself. I love the way he is just there to compliment, pay tribute and respect, and then sit down to listen. I also love the way he can plant two kisses on Les Paul's face, before and after, his little tribute. He is a man who is in touch with his emotions and manly enough to show them....and manly enough to sing the countless "silly love songs" that he's written because he's so integrated and well-balanced as a person. Props to you, Sir Paul!
McCartney is the engine that drove the Beatles. The bass player who inspired so many, including my personal rock idol, Chris Squire. What an inspiration and always uncompromising, but humble.
Wow! My two favorite "Paul's" on one stage. What a kind soul Paul McCartney is to remember the man Les Paul in such a touching way. Great vid! Thanks for sharing this!
A great clip, I can watch it over & over. You gotta love McCartney's line: ".. before we got the band together.." Also, the reaction of Nicki Parrott in the background throughout, she's just lovin' it, especially when Les Paul gets the royalty payment.
Thank you for sharing this great moment. I'm a big fan of both artits. I've seen McCartney many times, and it is always a special experience. Seeing and meeting Les Paul at the Iridium was also a great experience.
To be praised by legends like McCartney, VanHalen, Atkins, Gibbons & Slash; you’re truly a giant. I would be able to scratch off an item from my bucket list to see Les Paul play live. I did see John (Cougar) Mellencamp in concert and it was the best concert in my life. It was so entertaining, people were dancing in the stands.
That was such a beautiful moment. And I think Paul's story is technically right. The Beatles didn't exist at the time of this duo gig. But John and Paul were in a band together, they were probably called the Quarry Men at the time, and in 1960 they changed the name to the Beatles.
How awesome is Paul McCartney to attend this and honor a true pioneer of music. Paul McCartney is a class act and he keeps the spot light on Les Paul. Two great musicians
Les Paul is THE MAN!!! What a beautiful guitar this man has created. I had this amazing cherryburst Les Paul Standard it was a pure joy to play and to listen to. I'm planning on buying a honeyburst one soon (always dreamt of having one), and Im sure it's going to sound incredible
Paul knows that if it weren’t for les there wouldn’t be multi track recording, pickups and more. That’s a class act paying tribute to the man that helped make rock and roll possible.
You tube provides the platform - but it's individuals who have recorded these amazing events over the years, and looked after them well enough, that they are able to post them here, to share publicaly. TH-cam is the best museum ever - with so many amazing treasures.
This was back in the 90s when you could drop in to Fat Tuesdays in NYC and see Les perform every week. The week I went it was Steve Howe from Yes and he played my Les Paul. Good times.
What a perfect tribute. This is what I admire, too, about McCartney. He gracefully declined to play because unlike everyone else who paid tribute to Les Paul, McCartney is king.
And the female bassist is standing there thinking...Im standing next to one of the biggest heart throb stars of all time and one of the most prolific sond writers ever. My night is complete.
Thanks for the half ass video. I know it sucks trying to watch the show and really not wanting to record the whole thing but thanks. I'm a Bassplayer and got to jam at the Iridium so I met Les going and jamming a little. He's just so excitingly talented with the guitar.Jam dropping
reno145 because they has the low impedance signature in the 70s and it was an absolute horror, and failure of all time. Low impedance guitars are useless without an amp specially made for them.
No surprise if they do. Collector for 40 yrs and imo Gibson is already rudderless. "Collectors choice" "aged" "Historic" etc price point $6 to well over 10 gs. Never understood "star" replica guitars. Its only "special" to the owner. Not sure Les wanted his best guitars to cost more than our first cars.
Les Paul was the original frankenstein modder of all guitars and other equipment. Why copy him? Come up with a scheme that works for you. Or, use a stock LP as countless greats have done for decades.

No he's not

Right on the money...as always macca
likespurple well said!
likespurple yes, he is such a love.
Isn't a that treat? Two Paul's in one night. The audience didn't see that coming.

Paul is class personified.
Both of them!!
Macca disappointed me when he visited the 0bamas at the White House & said something very needlessly cutting about the previous occupant - Bush2
@@charleshardin3163 He desp[sed TRUMP, ONLY OUR GREATEST PRESIDENT! FUCK HIS POLITICAL DUMBNESS-PLUS HE CAN'T SING ANYMORE
Paul makes me cry because that was so touching.
I love how Les kept the money lmao
I love this, Old Les even looks a little star struck.
yeah , the great les Paul..The master and perhaps the Faul...
Not actually star struck, that STAR in fact is paying his tribute to the MAN
@@frankrusk6172 gullible idiot.

Paul's the man, but he makes those around him feel like they are

Jim McFalls my friend John Mills got "flying lessons " from George Martin.
THAT!... was one of the best back stories I've ever heard! Classic!
A great clip, I can watch it over & over. You gotta love McCartney's line: ".. before we got the band together.." Also, the reaction of Nicki Parrott in the background throughout, she's just lovin' it, especially when Les Paul gets the royalty payment.
How lovely was that??!!
What a nice tribute to Les Paul.
Wow, how great must you be to earn a kiss on the cheek from Sir Paul McCartney.
HOW GREAT MUST YOU BE TO EARN A KIS FROM FREAKING LES PAUL
@@ximonium I was just thinking like you!
I guess you just have to be better than Paul is all
gayyyy
What a class act Paul McCartney given tribute to Les Paul.
Paul's story relates to the Fox & Hounds pub in Caversham, which is about a mile away from me as I type this.....
Wowwww no shit?!!!😲👍👍
tonight, after sundown... you must go to this place
Thank you for sharing this great moment. I'm a big fan of both artits. I've seen McCartney many times, and it is always a special experience. Seeing and meeting Les Paul at the Iridium was also a great experience.
Wish I had been at that performance! Les Paul and Paul McCartney in a small club setting? Wow!
Fantastic. I regret never seeing Les Paul at the Iridium when I had a chance.
Les Paul seemed like a really good dude. Rest in peace.
To be praised by legends like McCartney, VanHalen, Atkins, Gibbons & Slash; you’re truly a giant. I would be able to scratch off an item from my bucket list to see Les Paul play live.

Amazing Paul McCartney & Les...! Wish I had been there that night...! Mercy!

Paul’s story is right. John and Paul played one gig as the Nerk Twins
man does that put a smile on my face :)
I heartily agree!
lovely moment..thanks for sharing
That was a class act from Macca. Respect.
That has to be one of the best "back story tributes" ever!....So glad I found this video!....Just sayin'!
Love this well done macca.
I miss Les Paul so much , he was always entertaining

I’m speechless, and THAT doesn’t happen every day! Two of my heroes, each treating each other like the music royalty they both truly are!
Both giants in their own right.
These 2 more than legends, are in awe of each other !
Wow I thought I knew every Beatles story, but this blew me away. Two great Paul's.
What a wonderful piece of footage thanks for posting

Thank you again!
Paul, such Class!!
What a great story
I think Les was genuinely thrilled to have Paul there.
two legends of music
Les Paul McCartney! Two beautiful cats.
Thats incredible ! And yes Les Paul should get that kind of credit :)
I like how Paul shows So Much respect & doesn't want to Upstage him. I also like that Paul never got 'tossed off' by Brian Epstein, like Lennon did!!
billyclub56 Tossed off?
Sir Paul, what a living legend !
Fantastic. It’s so good that you filmed this Chris
this is simply grrrreat!
One genius to another!

Incredible story!!! :)
Music royalty, they both have so much respect for each other.
2 great gentleman! how nice to see!
The stone, and one of the ripples it made. Wow. Fifty years of world-shaking history embracing on that little stage.
what a beautiful human being
Great video, when Paul McCartney went down to have a seat again, there was one less Paul on the stage 😅
Paul McCartney must be the most-loved musician and performer in the world since Louis Armstrong-and like Armstrong, he makes people happy.
Les Paul McCartney.
TWO GREATS MEETING HISTORY MADE!!
Les was such a great dude
Two stars of the sky .
Great...some day may be after another 100 yrs of practice.I may or may not play like them.Hats off
True gent.
Now THAT was cool.

Without Les Paul, the Beatles music wouldn't have been the same. Les invested multitrack recording, which the Beatles greatly used.
Amazing video story.
Another great Paul story. Actually both Paul's are great storytellers. I wish Paul could have sung that song with him.
What a cool video!!
SIR Paul McCartney
What great legends
Both Legends....
Why in the hell doesn't Gibson reissue an actual "Les Paul Signature Model Les Paul" like he plays in all these clips?
A Les Paul Supreme is a pretty close match
reno145 because they has the low impedance signature in the 70s and it was an absolute horror, and failure of all time. Low impedance guitars are useless without an amp specially made for them.
MrStubat Are we really pretending that Gibson aren't making garbage purely for collection?

I saw an interview with McCartney last week and he looks like THIS McCartney's son . He is aging backwards
Paul’s got class that he ain’t even used yet.
