Great video, thank you. Gibraltar changed over to right hand driving at 5am on 16th June 1929. The reason being the diminutive size of the the territory which only has 31 miles of public road and sharing a land border with Spain. Lamentable, I feel, since driving on the left is an aspect of Britishness. All road markings and signs are as per UK mainland.The only other British Territory that drives on the right is the British Indian Ocean Territory which, however, has no resident population only about 2,500 US military personnel.

Gibraltar is only about 4 miles & the only UK area that drive on the right side of the road.
I was just about to remark on that. Interesting how people are driving on the right side of the road in a British territory.

Ruben T It’s because Gibraltar borders with Spain. It would be very awkward if cars from Spain had to change on the left side of the road and viceversa. The UK is an island and it does not border with other neighbouring countries.
At least they drive on the RIGHT side if the road, lol.
People drive on the right side of the road in the British Indian Ocean Territory as well.

flavio fabrizio well, this in the UK, but far from mainland, it is in south Spain
In the 1920s, Gibraltar switched to right-hand running. It's been that way ever since.
Also, Gibraltar is on the same time zone as Spain.

Gibraltar was given as compensation by Spain and they consider it Spanish. Olivença was military ocupied and they consider it Spanish. Catalonia voted in referendum for it s independence, it was granted by the people, Spain denies it and considers it Spanish. Talk about ego.

Because of the drive switch and this being part of the UK, I notice a lot varied right and left hand drive cars.

So, Gibraltar drive on right, like Spain and unlike UK. What about the speed limits, are they in km/h like Spain (50 km/h speed limit in Spain) or in mph like UK (30 miles per hour speed limit in the UK)?
