They did not wear shoes like that in Celtic times...but its fantastic history and Ive never heard or seen anything better. Its triumphantly beautiful and takes you into warp spasm.
This is from the 25th Anniversary performance! The Lead dancers for this performance were Bobby Hodges (the blond male lead) and Amy-Mae Dolan, though Amy-Mae is not in this number. Jason O'Neil is the other (brunet) male lead I believe. This is the opening number, called "Reel Around the Sun".

i know right and theres not many saying they dont care for Flatley... like even Jean Buttler said in a interview that he had a huge ego that made it hard to work with him!! and that was years ago and those productions still make me uneasy when he kept handling those girls like he was at a stripper club like thats not irish dancing right!! you can see in the other production of Riverdance Jean was in which showed how much the male lead Colin Dunne respected and cared for everyone!! i always smile ear to ear during trading taps how much he enjoys dancing and then cheering the NYC dancers on as they did their parts its just wholesome!! same here the these 2 leads Amy Mae Dolan and Bobby Hodges love what they do and respect eachother...
Do you think he ruined it for everyone. I believe he was too big for his boots but now hes not well and the ego is burnt out. Jean Butler provides comments on the dancing and she is still very lovely to hear and see. The dance goes on.
@@rhodiusscrolls3080 No, Flatley created, choreographed, and directed the show. He didn't ruin it and deserves full credit for bringing it to television. As I noted in my original comments, his smarmy arrogance was the downside. I can live with that.
@@catherinedeboer3238 Right on...the greatest artists have been abominable personalities...I believe orchestral conductors were unbearable people especially for the instrumentalists. Caravaggio even murdered a man and Beethoven although countless women were fascinated by him never made it with anyone and treated his relatives cruelly while singing about the Brotherhood of Man. Look at the absolute monsters in Church and State and they make a dancing master look like a pretty cool guy however we view self centeredness and Prima Donnish behaviour. The word rightly comes from opera. Why did Toulouse Lautrec so lovingly depict the legs of all those girls in the Moulin Rouge although at other times he had hardly a good word for anyone male or female. Thanks for being in touch and more power to those dancing feet.
